If it were balanced, it wouldn’t be as popular.
guard cancel
counter call
punish/rush
repeat
there are not good spirals anymore. Maybe duc, but that’s it.
storm should rush safely and punish assists the same way sentinel would/could
thx potter
how do you kill an annoying iceman that does nothing but jump and constantly spams icebeam?
Wavedash, block (if you have to, probably won’t), call assist, do a huge combo, don’t waste Potter’s time with basic stuff.
:u: I read that post and thought the same thing, but decided to leave it alone in case there was a rabid Iceman running around the MvC2 scene I wasn’t aware of. =)
But, yeah, man. The question is VERY vague of details such as the reps this Iceman uses, his angles, his partner assists, the ways he gets his most damage in (other than you not blocking)…
It’s like fighting Sent, but to a lesser degree:
-sure, Iceman will chip you with icebeams, but taking the chip is better than taking the hit
-if he is trying to hold it down fullscreen, just keep trying to move forward until he slips up on covering where you are —> a horizontal icebeam equals a jump; a diagonal icebeam equals some forward movement (quick dash, walk, what have you)
-know what moves of your character can do chip damage and can’t do chip damage to this guy as it might come in handy
as Potter stated above, since it also applies to this scenario:
countercall
punish/rush
repeat
*of course there will be blocking
Post up with more details for a more detailed answer if there is indeed a rabid Iceman running around that Potter can help with.
the only way to beat a crazy iceman is to pick iceman
its like msp; the best way to beat it is to the use same team and use the same tactics, just do it better.
PICK DOOM AGAINST ICEMAN; HIS ROCKS STILL CHIP HIM IMO
to un-vague the question, guy picks iceman/cable/cc. treats iceman as another cable. constant running and shooting both horizontal and diagonal icebeams for chip whether im on the ground or jumping to get close.
Unvague the question further: who are you picking and why?
I’d pick Cable/Sent/Doom or Cable/Sent/XX back at him. In the first case, chip him back, in the second, build meter and take out one assist when ready.
ive been picking the 2 teams on my sig because they’re what i play best.
he starts iceman first. i start sent first and i have to do alot of blocking because of my size. i have tried playing cable against him but you cant chip iceman with cable, unless it means i dont shoot beams and just throw nades all day. i keep thinking MSP is the way to win but my mags is bad but both mags and storm are faster than cable and sent.
ive been thinking to start storm and just jump and throw vertical typhoons all day because its annoying but i dont have it in me to be annoying. the reason i play marvel is for the rushdowns and the combos, not to have some guy constantly jump back shooting garbage at me all day.
If you play Cable, it should be easy imo.
Chip him with Cable/Assist psuedo-traps. Iceman ain’t got shit on Cable. One miscall on Ice Beam = AHVB. Either 3 things. Ice-Man will run away all day shooting beams, which you’ll punish eventually, but with a good Cable he’ll have a hella hard time even leaving the ground. If he turtles, lock him down and chip. Build that Max Meter for the Cable v Cable. Fry his assist if he’s dumb enough to open up recklessly against Cable with 3-meters.
Ice-Man/CC can give Sent some trouble in your teams if you can’t zone right and don’t know how to dodge shit well in Fly. Probably start Storm and fish for a 100% DHC. Hail still chips Ice-Man, if you can get one off if. Turtle too much and you’ll just eat Ice-Beams when trying to Hail.
Take my advice with a grain of salt. I only been playing this game 2 months or so. Just bored.
EDIT - SSP = Storm/Sent/Psylocke? That’s kind of a shitty team. Psy doesn’t mesh well, kind of a beginner’s AAA. You could probably rock SSCable against him and do better.
I realy don’t understand how this could be a problem for you. Cable owns the horizonal when it comes to certain characters, Bobby Drake being one of them. Grenades and fierces to build meter. Anytime you block an icebeam, that’s a free AHVB.
If he jumps up and does icebeam, (like power333 said) wavedash under and punish. You can even SJ with him, block the horizontal beam, and SJAHVB.
I don’t see how this is a problem for you. Cable has his card in his back pocket…
Sup Potter, was wondering if I could get some critique/advice. Been playing for about a solid 2 months, started off low-tier(Wolverine/Bonerine/Akuma-Juggs) and finally made the transition to teams that are worth a shit about a month ago. MSP and Duc Do are my main teams, been playing Sentinel for less than 2 weeks now and have been trying to up my game.
To show you, I’ve uploaded like three random vids. Note: I’m not saying I’m good, just that these videos aren’t that great a representation as I’d like them to be. Execution is piss-poor and we’re being really cavalier in the casual play. Just got off work with my Co-Worker and it’s like 5am.
I’m always on the left, he’s on the right.

Try not to get annoyed by my fiancee teasing my Co-Worker/Friend about “Justing Wooonng” references to the Evo Moment #37 they just watched.
Basically, I need help with Magneto vs Sentinel matches, or getting around Drones and Cyclops. Those two assists just destroy me out of everyone out there. After watching the video I noticed I dash on ground-level way too much and eat a lot of negligible shit I shouldn’t have. I get snuffed out by Storm with Drones all the time.
If you can take a look at the video and tell me what not to do(What I’m doing wrong. I’d say everything) or some tips on fighting such matchups, I’d very much appreciate it. Anything would be fine, simple: “Be Patient,” “Don’t chase ____,” etc.
Thanks for your time in advance and the thread is amazing.
Only that third match was super-ugly looking, really.
I wish I had been able to do half that shit in my first month of playing MSP.
Yeah I’m still just starting to use Sentinel, and there’s not much time for me to use him a lot.
ruin’s been giving me advice and I’ve been trying to apply that, I seem to be doing better with Mag v Sentinel matches, but it’s not exactly amazing comp or reflection of a real Sent/AAA based team.

I’m no Marvel expert by any means, but I think your pretty good for only having used MSP for about a month. I play clock, and know random santhrax stuff, but have only recently started to learn how to ROM with Mag. I can only hope to be like you and execute that well in a month. :razzy:
Going to give you some real advice so take your ego out when you read this:
You’re clearly better than your competition, but the problem right now is at this level both you and your competition can’t do more than just try to land combos. Sloppily. It doesn’t hurt that your opponents give you a false sense of confidence because they are frankly so bad:
Case in point, you frequently get away as Magneto with (blocked) clk chp… if you got away with tacking on an em disruptor at the end that might be understandable but your opponents are so bad that truly sloppy play is passable.
You do dangerous (and predictable) stuff like super jumping and air dashing straight forward against Sentinel when you don’t have anything to cover you and he could easily do a fast fly combo for at least 40%
You need to stop rushing in so much and master your basics, like zoning, safe combos, punishing basic moves, counter calling, etc. etc. In general at least 1/2 of the things you do are unsafe (not just unsafe, punishable).
These are the real things holding you back. Both you and your opponent would benefit greatly if you started thinking for HIM how to counter the things you do. Discuss and then work from there. Through this process it will force you to improve to keep up with him.
Question everything you see and innovate. Unconventional methods or unorthodox responses to certain situations are all acceptable as long as it works. You will eventually discover why marvel is played the way it is now and by the time you have reached that level …
Thanks, I hella appreciate it.
Yeah when I play guys like Ruin and whatnot, I get destroyed a lot until I try to adapt. I play differently against the comp I get here, because I know I can get away with a lot of dumb things and trying to play too complex sometimes has random drawbacks on the spontaneous scrub. It’s a very slow process, but I’m trying to get the ins and outs of characters at this point. I still don’t know simple priorities.
And like you said, my zoning/execution leaves a lot of holes in my play.
Love the blunt, and simple truth. Again, thanks for the advice and I’ll be considering them greatly.
I have very limited internet access so I’m not going to be able to post much in the near future. You guys seem to be able to hold it down. Maybe when I can get my internet working I’ll post up some new stuff I’ve thought of.
Good lookin’ out.
