Good shit.

Why is Magnus one hit kill stronger than Sent chip/zoning/UB ?

If he’s so deadly how come a low tier point is killin’ em?

If you could pick ONE thing to change about the game engine to limit mag’s options what would you switch up?

:clapcalplaclap:

Well, I believe due to execution on both parts. I know it is hard for magneto to get in, but he doesn’t have to work as hard as sent/cap does JUST to keep him out. Sent/cap has to actively zone and try mixups to get legitimate damage that is not only from chip. If it were only from chip, it would literally take 65% of the time just to kill a mag from chip. Magnus, I feel, in this situation has absolutely nothing to lose. Yes, the team is crippled (if he dies), but that’s just something magneto has to live with. Sent, however, is more valuable than magnus for his respective team. Storm/psy > storm/cap. Since most msp’s are magneto based only, it only adds to the risks (mostly stupid ones) that they’re willing to take. Only a handful of msps can actually use storm and comeback from a deficit with her.

Most unblockables that sent gets are earned. a smart msp, will avoid ub at all costs, unless it runs into a fast fly combo or doesn’t pay attention to its life. The best msps will actually avoid it (watch yipes from sb2) entirely, so its not as great as it SHOULD be, or can be. Psylocke getting hit by UB is inevitable, if shes on the screen, you might as well throw in the towel (unless its one-on-one). MSP is a care-free, often mashy, team that can win at any point, on purpose or by accident. Thrax, conversely, requires tact, skill, intelligence, and constant focus. As much as people think the match-up is even, the less I feel they know about marvel.

If you want to see how this match-up works most of the time, watch yipes vs. chunk. They have the best execution (although not always the best tactics), but its the ideal match-up of these teams. It seems like it can go either way (because they’re both so good), but if you actually pay attention, thrax is just working so much harder, and it almost feels like damage control. I guess you could interpret that as not playing to win, but it feels that mags can just do anything he wants and capitalize.

I wouldn’t necessarily take out one particular thing about magneto, but the intro screen should start full screen. With that eliminated, I feel the usage of MSP would decline heavily, because let’s face it, most players rely on the randomness of that part of the game to get most, if not all, of their W’s. It’s no coincidence when justin/yipes played at evo/ecc back in 04-05, they would start the match full screen (both used msp). Why do that? Well, that’s because they want to earn their wins.

The hardest part for any team (non-mags) is that first attack. It changes the complete dynamics of that match/game. It makes players question who they should start, where as if the match started full screen, I don’t think that question would even arise for most.

Aside from that, I wouldn’t really change anything from magneto. Except maybe that whole pushblock bs where he still keeps you locked down and you can’t jump away. That is also very homosexual

how does storm\psy fight against thrax if magnus goes early.

very sexy post:tup:

Storm hopes desperately to land the infinite or random lightning attacks xx super?

People should use tiger knee rocket punch to punish Hail Storm attempts more often. It works and it amuses me. You can’t ask for much more.

Even with full screen starts (and it’s mad sexy to be playing Megaman and watch Magnus start full screen away at match start), one hit from Magnus should bring your helper in to take about half life in damage for starters. Magnus’ powerful guard breaks suck. Give him Tron’s stupid snap back where she takes about thirty seconds to recover. =P

At some point I really am going to sit down and try to figure out how the moves/recovery frames are coded into Marvel and then quietly adjust things.

watch yipes vs. sanford ft10, yipes does a textbook comeback. He just got there before sanford did. He beat out all his attacks, which I thought should have been punished. He did risky maneuvers and was rewarded everytime. If you have storm left you should have a ton of meters, so use them freely as there is not point in saving them. Maybe you’ll land a couple and take a free 40% gift. Aside from that, I don’t really know what to tell you. Sentinel should win this match up 8.5/1.5 (if that). There’s another level in marvel that honestly you must reach to make this a 6/4 match-up in sentinels favor. Up until now, i’ve only seen 3, MAYBE 4 players that do perfect air dashes that go through sentinel stuff that it shouldn’t. I can’t do it, I usually get punished, but sometimes I can do it at the right time. It could also be the sentinel player messing up, but I have seen/witnessed some stuff that shouldn’t happen in marvel.

Anyways, what I would do since I am more of a conservative player is run away, try to catch them while they’re chasing or when they’re off guard. I play boring though, so its not like new exciting marvel. I just nickel and dime sentinel until the match becomes relatively close again. I try not to get hit by stupid shit by trying to build too much meter, and just play it safe with OCCASSIONAL counter-calling. Sometimes, you can call psylocke really late and get free air combos, or you can get some dash overs that shouldn’t work to work if you time assist-calling right. Still, I think storm should lose this match. You almost have to play super risky and just get lucky. If you’re playing msp, your entire team is built on luck, so it shouldn’t surprise you that you’re losing because you didn’t get your double snap. lol

P.S. marvel sucks

This would be a lot easier if it was programmed in english.

need somebody who knows programming and linguistics in the same room :\

All this to give tron a ROM c’mon prepster :]

I already have an easy four fierce combo for her… you know we just need to stretch her a little more.

But come on, if Magnus does a double snap and sits there like an idiot in a post-snap move pose for 10 seconds and gets messed up by the incoming character for free, tell me that you wouldn’t be ROTFL. I simply play characters with some whack snapbacks (Tron, Megaman) and am just jealous.

Ahh I’m just playin. :]

I want Rainbow Marvel: Why So Pringles Edition soooo bad

It kills me that you could change a couple integers – not even messing with the gods-- that would level up so many characters easy.

Give everyone else with an air dash a “fast” dash (make son-son/morrigan/chun like mag/storm/sim)

Give everyone a full normal jump magic series (charlie, akuma, etc)

Give commands to the characters with THC button only level one supers

Give low tier easy SJC windows (morrigan ground infinite could be a lot easier and still be 10x harder than rom)

Give more broken hitboxes to add unblockable frames where needed. They’re already in the game and I have a pretty good idea why they happen. They’re cheap yeah, but still luck based and only occur 25% of the time, so i say have at it. (Wolvie s.HK has potential to UB, but the twitch break frames have no hitboxes-- such a tease)

Give me a job at Capcom

Give Gief a jetpack

Basically its in the spirit of the game to break the lows up to par rather than nerf gods. If there were all of a sudden 10-20 extra contenders counter-pick gets important again and everything gets, to use the technical term, less homosexual (n/offense)

i can teach you some mvc9 robast

teach me a game worth learning like sf4. lolololololol

imho

Great thread. Thanks for the help about that other stuff too. I have a couple questions.

You mentioned that you never (or rarely, can’t recall) lost long sets. My question is why MSP gets less effective in longer sets?

And what are the best teams to beat Mag based teams and why? Preppy is very welcome to comment on MM tactcs if he wants to as well.

Last is a situation. If I’m a grounded Sent, and midgame my Magneto opponen does straight jump, dash lk (to miss) and calls Psy, so Psy is a 50/50 that may or may not get hit after Mags momentum after the lk makes us change sides. What’s my best option here, or to prevent this scenario?

Thanks guys

is it too late to start playing marvel seriously (again?)?

bronson.

WHat are the main skills/tactics/knowledge that separate a top player from someone who is mearly above average?

Can I get some pointers on Sent vs. Sent battles? Thanks.

That’s a good question.

top-player sentinel
-fast fly, must land 100%
-lockdown patterns (including refly) that to lead to advantageous positioning
-understanding why refly is useful
-UB should be automatic
-guard breaks should also be auto (mid and full screen)
-must be outstanding in sent/sent battles

top-player mag
-have at least 9 reset repertoire
-must not miss infinite/gbs ever
-stellar position vs. sentinel
-must be able to close the match after a snap (both single/double)
-must be random/loose
-Must Mash when in danger
-great mixups in the corner

top storm
-can beat sent/cap consistently
-can land ALL of her gbs
-great keep away and rush down
-great mixups in the corner
-Positioning

Overall: if you’re not great at positioning, you should just pick msp. It’s extremely hard to teach spacing, it is one of those things you learn through experience i.e. getting your ass whooped by better players. Watching videos helps, but you must understand why people are doing what they are doing. Cable, imo, is not worth learning if you’re trying to become a top player. All top players can get away from cable (with slight ease), you’re only advantage is that nobody even picks him anymore. Put og top players put cable away, unless you’re equally good with him. I’m not going to tell you how to beat cable because hes my fav character. Furthermore, experience is EVERYTHING. That’s how you recognize situations (both positive and negative), and you learn how to adapt and make better decisions. Quick decision making, under pressure is easy if its just a natural reaction you have to something you’ve seen before. Clutch. Cannot be taught, only earned. This is what people usually mark as the point where avg/top are separated. You could call it all mental, but I think its more than that. Top-players are mentally stronger (for the most part) and handle adversity a lot better just because they’ve already dealt with many rounds/levels of tournaments. Top 3 is a whole new experience to anyone who has actually been there (on every level it gets only tougher). Top 3 at a local touranment is a lot diff than top 3 at a regional or a national. If you don’t have the mental toughness to deal with the situation, then you’re bound to fail. That’s just the way it goes, nervousness i don’t feel is that much a factor as some people feel it it. I get nervous for all of my matches, but once the match starts you feel a comfort zone. It’s pretty late now in the game to catch up imho. Even the cats who you think just came up, have been playing for years (I’d say over 5 yrs minimum). Marvel is the hardest game to become a top player at and stay on top. Its the only game where your execution of a combo you’ve done a million times can falter at any moment and cost you a match. Practicing is overrated imo. Having the right mentality is what wins you tournaments, not all the combos you know.

sent vs. sent is a complex match up, I could write pages on it, but i’d rather not. There are little nuances/tricks that can be used even at high levels to make the match up basic, but i’m not trying to reveal EVERYTHING I know. Its in the videos. Sorry, bros

What about low-tier players? In your opinion, what makes a low-tier player a really good player?
