You mean the same casuals who didn’t buy the game after SF5’s horrifc launch and support it through Season 1?? Well that plan backfired.I wonder what Season CAPCOM will catch on to this and implement more mechanics for some advanced game play options.
I on the other hand like SFV because i see its potential but it has consistently let me down over the course of its run. Primary one being how they nerfed my boy Gief into the ground and no Blanka to use as my second.
I’m just using the additive powers of the Japanese calling him top tier and then subtracting that from the downplay here. Which equals solid mid for Gief.
I honestly dont understand the jap top tier talk… where does it come from? Are there several japanese pros mopping the floor with everyone now? All im seeing itabashi and stu, just like in season 1. Im just seeing slightly “more” of them.
Sure, the hp/ex spd oki is stupid strong, but outside of that…?
I dont think one strong tool is enough for that top tier spot. Not in a game with characters like urien, rog, laura, guile and cammy.
I’m inclined to agree about Stu I know in season 1 he was getting away with the V-Skill like crazy and not surprising he would get punished for it in tournaments outside the WNF crowd.
I don’t know where its coming from either but there are always regional differences in opinion on who is Top tier. Whatever the Japs are seeing it’s got them impressed. Maybe they have a preview build or something no one else has access to yet…doesn’t make sense to me how they can say that.
It’s also being reinforced by the whiner babies spouting crap like “Zangief can low jab into SPD, he’s crazy good now in Season 2!!”…
Where dafuq have you been playing SF all this time???
I didnt meant that they’re on the same level, they’re just the only giefs I actually see once in a while competing… maybe you can add snake eyez to that but… yeah…
Only 3 people? But Gief is supposed to be a top tier character now? I just dont see it. People pick up top tiers, whether they like the character or not. No one’s picking up gief.
That’s why he’s realistically somewhere within mid tier. When you have one group rating him too highly and another group (this thread) rating him too lowly, the truth is in the middle.
The difference being that the group who rates him too highly doesn’t actually play him. I beat almost every Balrog I come across so I never would’ve guessed he’s high-tier, but apparently he is, so what do I know? Back when the game was first released dictator was considered top tier, but people who mained him already knew about his limitations and correctly predicted he would make a free fall in the tier list.
I hear all this talk about how ‘Japan’ thinks Gief is top tier, but so far only Daigo and Nemo have said so. Correct me if I’m wrong. How can a character be mid-tier when he has 1-2 matches in his favor and a truckload of disadvantageous matchups, including 3-4 of the worst in the game?
Yeah alot of them who say this simply haven’t learnt how to play against Gief. If you guys haven’t seen it yet check out Momochi vs Itazan from yesterdays Topanga League. It was a masterclass from Momochi as he patiently outplayed Itazan in the footsies department and punished accordingly. If you know Gief’s weaknesses you can effectively dismantle him in the neutral.
Not top tier, not bottom either. Just a well balanced, honest character.
You guys are really overthinking this, Gief is super weak in high level play period. It’s crazy how most people still don’t know how to play against Gief but if you do he’s pretty pathetic.
Such as…? He only has a slight advantage against Laura, Mika and Juri. Maybe Bison. Balrog was in his favor in S1, it’s even now.
Guile vs Gief, Urien vs Gief and Sim vs Gief are THE three worst matchups in the game. Nash is still terrible and Chun Li is no cakewalk either. He’s also at a (slight) disadvantage against Rashid, Akuma, Birdie, Cammy, Ryu and FANG.
