Judt curious does watching SE’s evo matches help any of you geif players?
It gave me some new ideas.
Unfortunately, the matches are not vs. my trouble characters…
Wasn’t there only the DGV vs SE fight? I want to see some of the Honda & Chun matchups…
Hey guys, I’ve been wondering, what are gief’s safe jump setups from sweep, lariat and spd? (If there are any)
Sumo Splash traps are a thing of the past. I finally learned the timing for the crouch Lariat which will beat a Sumo Splash everytime. I haven’t tried Kick Lariat yet, but Punch Lariat works great. Timing is very, very tricky, (a little later than HF timing) but basically just crouch and time the Lariat just a hair before Honda connects. This puts Zangief’s head hitbox above Honda’s offensive hitbox and leaves Zangief completely safe and Honda gets knocked down. LOL…SPD time.
You’ll have to elaborate.
Whoa didn’t know that! Thanks Blitzfu.
I’ve been trying kick lariat and seems to at least trade, sometimes beat the splash. I’ll have to try the punch lariat.
A standing jab will also work but far less damage and it will allow Honda to land on his feet quicker.
Welcome to SRK bro, congrats on your EVO win. You’ll have to give us some tips. I heard you beasted some top players. :bgrin::tup:
Cool, I will have to try that. I have a lot of trouble escaping meaty sumo splashes in the corner
Welcome to the Zangief forums Snake Eyes. I’m actually surprised you guys didn’t know the lariat trick for beating buttslams. I’m pretty sure it was talked about a few pages back (btw there is no reason to use punch lariat over kick lariat though both work). It would probably be a good idea to reboot this thread like the other ones so that all the cool tricks/strategies are in one place. Maybe Snake Eyes can contribute some too (wink wink).
If a Honda player did a roundhouse sumo splash and i knew they were gonna do it! I would neutral jump fierce head butt then safe jump honda right off the recovery of him getting hit from the headbutt with jumping short then X amount of jabs into cr lp spd. Even though the jab spd does more dizzy than fierce and medium you don’t have to rush the jab spd after the headbutt because as long as they are in block stun from zangiefs crouching jabs the game won’t let the player recover from dizzy stun, same for ST Zangief. Thank everyone for that congratulations thread on Evo 2010! Alot of the people who shook my hand at Evo were in that thread mad salty! But Im not trippin, Gief baby;)
That bit about the stun not resetting during blockstun is very interesting. If true, that would explain a lot of random dizzies I’ve been getting lately. I thought just not getting hit for a while would reset it, but I guess blocking extends the time sounds logical. I also thought jab SPD dizzies more often because it hits them faster (with fierce usually being too slow to add stun for dizzies). Does it really do more stun? I’ll have to try out that safe jump sequence and see if it dizzies. Hopefully it works on whiffed hp shoryuken type reversals.
How do you fight Guile’s and Honda’s? I’d also love to hear what you do vs. Sagats who jump a lot and abuse J. HK.
For shotos who like to jump with strong (Ryu) or jab/fierce xx tatsu (Ken), what do you like to do, and what should both Gief and the shotos avoid to do in that situation+the follow-ups?
I St.HK them, forces them to switch it up.
Clothesline if they try to cross up, or if they get too close.
The way to beat Gief is to never let him near you. Simple for Blanka. I can’t speak for other characters though.
10,000 volts is right i just seen snake eyes getting his ass beat by a blanka player because he didn’t let him in
It isn’t that simple… :shy:
i hardly ever have trouble getting in on blanka.
On sagats jumping roundhouse i like to neutral jump fierce that s*** but from max distance you can green hand, both attacks beat it out clean but standing roundhouse most of the time just trades. Sagat jumps really fast too so you have to have a lot of ideas when a sagat jumps at you from different distances! As for shotos there jumpins are like rock paper scissors with Gief but i mainly use standind lp against shotos when they jump in.
what do u do if u r facing a top slim player snake eyes ? how do u keep your self from getting out ranged ?
