Zangief Q&A Thread

Thanks

If I crush counter-hit someone with s.HP at max distance, should I dash > SPD? Is there enough advantage to do that?

If you did charged st.HP, yes. If not, then no.

If not, mk running bear?

If not, st.hk. You can’t land any Running Bear Grab off of cc st.hp unless you’re at close range and block a dragon punch.

how is your motion for tick cr.lp to spd and which spd is the best after a tick cr.lp.

Tick to bear grab is not a problem. I do it like 6,3,cr.lp.,2,1,4+K but i can not figure it out for the spd. I will always jump or when the spd comes it whiffs completly.

What am i doing wrong?

For me, tick SPD is most likely coming after I land an ex SPD (or air ex SPD). I like to mix-ups my tick strike. I’ll do c.lk, c.lp to lp SPD, c.lp to ex SPD, and medium punch stand or crouch to lp/ex SPD. It requires a lot of timing practice in training mode to get down at a 95 percent success rate.

My tick movement is like…Ex SPD, dash, hold 3, c.lp, then move to 432169+punch for the SPD. I don’t prebuffer the SPD movement but rather input it while the opponent is in block/hit stun.

Practice this for hours. Many times the match is going to come down to a last chance c.lk, c.lp SPD tick. You better get it right.

You mean after the 3+cr.lp going back up to forward? like 3+cr.lp, 6, 3, 2, 1, 4, 7+P?

I’m having trouble getting my SPD’s off consistently…I’m using 3, 6, 9, 11 o’clock then pressing punch (from the left side). is there a better way? thx

412398 or 6321478 is easiest. always go from standing block.

Even when facing left I always do 412369. Starting with 6 feels very awkward on a pad.

derp, nevermind, I think these are the directional numbers you guys are referring to, thanks - The number direction thread

How do you wakeup SPD? I’m have trouble with my SPD executions, darn it

You don’t. It’s 5 frames of startup and vulnerable on wake up.

Rotate 270" degrees (3/4 of a circle) and press punch.

I’m being overaggressive, trying to push the SPD too often. What is your setup for getting off a successful SPD?

I switch it up like this:

  1. If I’m right next to them: instant EX Borscht hard read if I think they might jump or backdash. St. roundhouse if I’m not in range. Against people who predictably backdash a lot, delayed EX SPD is a great option and easier to get than EX Borscht.
  2. Normal throw/EX Borscht option select.
  3. low jab, headbutt (not a real frame trap, but often works). If headbutt hits, combo into st. short>Lariat. If headbutt is blocked, do st. short anyway and mix it up between jab SPD and EX Borscht (many people will neutral jump after blocking st. short).

I’ll try this thanks. If I’m understanding you correctly are you saying that you’re aiming to get an SPD off by using Borscht (waiting for them to jump)?

If they don’t jump (or you can’t get a Borscht off) then you aim for your option 3 there?

Thanks!

I cannot for the life of me do f+MK into LK link, what am I missing? is the only trial I haven’t completed
(btw holy fuck Zangief trials Vol.2 is easy outside of that)
Edit: I did it, I think it was that f+Mk needed to hit at the last active frame?
Also yeah Vol.2 is easy, fucking Vol.1 was a joke, took me what? 2 minutes?

I try to condition them to sit still by doing a hard read EX Borscht before they even move (on their wakeup). If you wait to see whether they’ll jump before you do EX Borscht you may catch them if they do in fact jump, but you’ll be too late to catch the backdash.

I like to use option 3 when the opponent has a 3-frame normal and mashes it on wakeup.

What is the use of the new throw? I don’t get it.
