I think it’s dependent on how close they were when you v reversal. From my sets last night I’ve found that ex spd was more reliable if I had a jump read in that situation and they were just far away enough that st.hk seemed likely to miss
No combos, it is only plus three and with say CR.jab at 4 frame startup you can see it doesn’t work as a combo. You’re pretty far for most normals anyway. Jab spd seems like a good choice right now until it stops working (as people see it more and expect it). Also consider that if they block the v-reversal you are now -2.
I’ll give it a whirl when I hop on shortly. I suspect it would work in a corner crossup block situation as the v reversal would push them into the corner.
Yep just tried testing this on lights, mediums, whatever. Doesn’t work. Just a step out of range.
Also, the feeling of when you are in VT, pressuring somebody on wakeup and use Gief’s parry to eat a DP is just too amazing. This may be my favorite version of Gief ever, so fun to use
Yes! Also, you can do this without v trigger on any DP save for Ken’s ex since that is 6 hits. Hit and hold parry, it absorbs two hits, then either move forward to absorb one more or release parry and immediately parry the potential third hit.
Gief’s V game will make or break this character for you. There is a lot of potential here.
Interesting, I actually didn’t know that. Doing it in VT to something lile Ex SBK or Rashid’s DP just feels so godlike; you can literally sense the fear in the opponent after that.
There is no easy way to say this, you simply can’t win with that mentality. If you’re waking up it is because you made an error and now have to deal with a mixup. You need to defend against hits (maybe meaty or crossup) or a throw. He has no legit reversals on wakeup. Spd is too slow and lariat is questionable. Block it out, tech it out. V reversal if you can and reset the situation. You need to value defense in this game to win. From solid fundamental defense will opportunity arise.
CA is the only invincible move he has. Other than that, I would say mix up between block + V Reversal, which gets you out of meaties (gotta be careful if they start doing jab, cause they are trying to bait the VR and punish with throw), and backdash + SPD, which blows up throws.
Very happy the HitBox viewer Mod for PC is out. Been in training mode looking at all of Gief’s hitboxes among other characters. This should help improve my footsie game.
The one thing I really miss from SF4 is his j.hp. You could tag people from 3/4ths of the screen with that thing. The new one he has now feels gimpy.
I can’t really hit confirm into a 720 outside of f.mk, so I just dabble with Gief for now. He is indeed more fun in V than IV, but he’s still a grappler at the end of the day.
