Block Sonic booms and walk forward, once you get close enough you can just St.HP through them on reaction. All of Nashâs move forward normals are negative on block, and Vskill parryable/St.HP on reaction.
Assuming the light flash kick is the one where he moves forward and does a fast kick aiming low? Not the somersault one? If so you can just throw out a Vskill if you feel it coming.
Most of Nashâs normals are short reaching so you can just punish him up close without much worry, and the ones that arenât are slow and highly punishable.
Not real good with the move names, but I actually think it was the medium scythe, not light. But my opponent would do Sonic booms, and then sometimes walk up and do scythe after. V Skill absorbs the Sonic boom and the scythe but scythe is max range so I canât do anything about it; just accumulate grey health.
His normals and VT arenât much of a problem (if I got that close, 8/10 I won the round), but I rarely got that close because of the sonic boom, scythe wall. At max range, Iâm not sure what Gief can do about the scythe. Too far to punish with anything, even V Skill, and the hitbox on it is good enough that if I often got hit even when I jumped it.
Iâll try to upload some of the matches later. I havenât really seen any other Nashâs play like this so Iâm not sure if Iâm doing something very wrong or if ppl just havenât discovered how to lame Gief out yet with him.
Im still struggling with gief but canât you just absorb the booms and inch closer & closer until you get V-trigger? Once you get that, matchup changes.
This is part of learning footsies. there is a range that he can do scythe and be totally safe even if you parry. just like anything else you can bait it. have you ever noticed watching top players they never just walk forward they always do a shimmy back and forth. Walk into the range that he would do it and then backdash(dont walk back as the proximity blocking will get you) and light spd.
and to answer your question you are not doing anything wrong they are just leveling up, its your turn to do the same so you can continue your ass kicking ways
No offense at all, but Iâve been playing for a while and understand footsies very well. Not saying Iâm as good as any of them but I have FourWude, Hamad, Jan and other very good/top players in my scene and play them frequently so I am adjusted to high level play.
I was able to manage to make him whiff sometimes and capitalize with SPD but you donât get anything off light, so it doesnât discourage them much. Also the margin of error for doing that is fairly low. A little too far back and you whiff SPD and get punished. A little too far forward and you eat the scythe and lose a lot of positioning. I understand itâs something you HAVE to do, just stating that the risk/reward for that is very low.
Also, if he were only doing scythe maybe that would be more viable, but mixed in with sonic booms, normals and a random jump here and there, itâs just not something that consistently works well.
i am sorry i wasnt trying to offend you, i always assume people are good and just dont have the answer to a problem. rereading it i can see how it could be seen as insulting. i apologize
This was a problem for me before i tried to backdash it.
All good man, I know you werenât trying to be condescending I meant that more to say that you donât have to worry about going over my head and can jump into more specific strats if you got em. And to be fair, I probably sound like a scrub not knowing the move names haha.
Gonna have to lab this more. I havenât had trouble with Nash at all until this guy started playing like that.
Iâm going to my first sfv tourney Saturday so hopefully Iâll come back with more insight on matchups. Really hoping I donât straight up choke after all this practice
Honestly I think that is just Gief. You are going to lose until you get Nash to the corner. Gief requires more knowledge of other characters than anyone on the roster. Flex on the bastard and pressure with normals until he is cornered and then donât let him out. If you do that is your fault and that is why the matchup is even.
I donât think there is more strategy to this matchup, itâs kind of like the cammy one just a slow war of attrition.
For EXRBG, when itâs armor starts happen?
I tried to use EXRBG during my wake up against meatly attacks from opponent
But each time I get punched out/countered.
This bullshit as hell
Zangief once get knocked down, he is easily over unless u got a CA
Use V-Reversal if you donât have CA. Most of the time youâll catch them off-guard and can follow up with a jab SPD since the V-Reversal usually knocks them away to the perfect range. Otherwise yeah, Zangief has few reversal options. Welcome to grappler life.
Starting to incorporate v reversal in most of my matches now. It is such a great tool. If it hits them youâre +3 and theyâre generally too surprised by what happened to jump away from the jab spd. Build that v meter early in the match with v skill so you have it accessible right away.
