Zangief General Thread: Our Russian Skies Are Protected

I think this is true of almost every character thread, it’s really silly. People rushing to declare their character “bottom tier” before they even know how to play the game. People that need a youtube tutorial video to find the most basic tools.

According to LPN…

jumping body splash>headbutt (F+Hp) to critical art does 70% damage in the latest build lol.

70% against who?

70% against Cammy or Chun is nothing special, but still not bad.
70% against Ryu or Ken is really strong.
70% against another Zangief is ridiculous.

Anyway, is the headbutt really cancable or does it just work with super?

Tbh even if is on Ryu/Ken sound kinda normal if we consider that are an jHP+fHP+CA (only 2 hits, low scaling)

And if there is’nt vanilla like health difference where Gief got 1200, i don’t think on him the result will be that far from that

I am not surprised by the dmg, i’m surprised is possible do fHP into CA, and considering this that is possible do BodySplash into fHP

Somebody know if was possible do CH HP into fHP?
Maybe ch HP > fHP > CA does even more

Zangief has 1150stamina in the “Dhalsim version”.

and 70% agains 1000Stamina is still very high for a 2hit into CA combo, comeon. Don’t missunderstand me, I love it, Zangief deserves it more than any other character in the game.

I saw Daikuza’s Zangief 2 days ago and since then, I think Zangief is very strong.

I don’t deny it sound very powerful, in fact as i said i’m suprised (and happy :smiley: ) such combo is possible

What i say is just that 70% against 1000 Stamina is 700

Body Splash probably is around 100
fHP maybe is 100 or slighty more considering it’s Gief (i don’t know fHP dmg but cl and st HP back in USF4 was 140)
Let’s say CA is somewhere around 500

Sound kinda normal a dmg around 700 for a combo like that
Again i imagine on corner chHP>fHP>CA will do even more

I hope fHP>CA survive until the final version

How far does his CA reach? Could you theoretically f.hp the startup of a fireball and CA through to grab? Could this even work against the first his of an EX fireball, using the CA invincibility to avoid the second hit? Can you even cancel f.hp off a fireball neutralisation?

Hey zangieflovers, long time no see. I main gief since super turbo and sf4 (im a 07er).

Just a few random things after reading this thread just today (each point is completely unrelated from the next one):

1- I completely agree with everything deviljin01 posts.

2- This new zangief doesnt feel/look (he looks like a character from the film the incredibles, toooo cartoony) at all like the sf4 zangief. Is this good or bad? We dont know yet. We will see.

3- I dont even know how the mechanics of this particular game works (even watching pro players is kinda boring imho). But if theres something fighting games taught me is that if theres any mechanic (call it the name you want) turns your character into a red thing for some reason; that game will fail lol. Look at marvel/sfxt. I hope this is not the case.

4- Is it just me or this game in general is less about footsies and more about ‘crazy dev’ mechanics? Call it v-skill, crushcounter (i still dont know what that is) and all that jazz? At least in SF4 there wasnt any crazy things like now in sfv (focus maybe? Idk).

5- Im still not sure what capcom is trying to do with this game at this point. But i hope people play it and please dont ruin Zangief. I always played zangief not “as a 100% grappler” like you guys said several times here. You dont play zangief like that. Zangief is footsies. The spds are just a threat, its not the whole gameplan of zangief at all.

6- I played only like 30 minutes of the beta when it was up 2 months ago i think. I dont feel attracted at all (also no gief lol) so please dont bash me. Most of the things im saying is based on watching other people play the game.

Everyone here is posting some really good BIG DAMAGE combos.

I’m a bit sceptical here, but “Will these combos work on momochi or daigo”?

Correct me if I’m wrong:

If they block, you SPD
If they back dash or jump, you crush counter into follow up
If they reversal, you block and crush counter into follow up

uhh not only is this a very old build but we also seen this months ago

Was watching a snake eyes video and he said he first thought SFV Gief was terrible, then he watched someone else play him who knew what was up. Now he feels like he is better and has more tools than SFIV Gief.

We all should get our chance this weekend.

Just like I told Highland in the general discussion thread, when you are too used to a specific version of a character, you can’t open your eyes as wide as someone else. That’s why all of the old Dhalsim players have been scratching their heads and looking lost with the new Sim. Calling him bad or weak. Not because he’s actually bad, but because they can’t find everything that made the older Sims good.

We’re getting a new Gief and a new Sim and if anything, someone who hasn’t mained those characters for years has a better shot of opening up their new plans. This Gief to me always had more tools than SFIV Gief, but people couldn’t get past green ball tickle.
