regular spd is 5f, ex is 4f. His air ex spd after v trigger is not overpowered for those who think, thats a meter, all his air juggle crush counters require ex to juggle into spd, normals do not work. basically anytime u want to tack on extra damage it requires meter, thats also why his ground crush counter hit, the st hp is so valuable, since it doesnt require meter to combo. meter is better saved for ex running bear grab, his only true ‘invincible’ move, not really invincible but you know what i mean since it has one hit of armor

5 frame spd makes me sad =(

No more footsie and block pressure eating SPDs lol. I remember a couple people who predicted his SPDs would be slower. They want this game to be honest so a lot of stuff like dive kicks, command grabs and vortex pressure are getting toned.

Im fine with slower SPD as long as the damage is high and leaves him in a good position. No more churning butter during blockstrings. Hopefully they give him the ability to combo into EX SPD back though.

he can still spd fine, i was spding people a ton, its about recognizing the gaps in their offense as well as reverse frame trapping them using your pokes. he has amazing reach with his light spd, easily able to grab people when they try to poke you, like st, also i grabbed people on neutral jumps as well as empty distance jump into light spd

also once you hit a few st hk crush counters they stop trying to backdash or jump but perhaps the st hp woulda been better, i didnt have more than a day to test, ill refine my strats next time i get a hands on, he is definitely a solid character now. Maybe he was weaker at scr, he isnt now

give him a meterless combo-ender and im happy

I do probably have a better idea than two 09’ers. You know what doesn’t feel like Zangief in any street fighter he’s ever been in? SFIV Zangief.
Dude has a parry now (unlimited in v-trigger mode), an air grab, can suck you in in v-trigger for set-ups, can combo into super and can suck you in in v-trigger and if it hits you with it, can combo an air ex-spd for about 35% of your health.
That ALL seem like a really good trade for dropping banishing hand.

5 frames seems like capcom’s magic number for command grabs, it’s just slow enough you can’t mash it to break frame traps.

@gwolfe Can Gief still combo into EX SPD? I thought I heard somewhere that it was removed or made more limited.

he can’t and honestly you should save meter even if you could, plus you can do super still in combo

like i said before he isn’t made for combos, if you like combos use r mika. he is meant to throw, thats why he has a high damage air spd, and insane 50% combos off crush counters

i completely agree, this is the real gief, using grabs, and not combos to win. his throws are extremely satisfying and bring back the feel of ‘i just messed this dude up’ each time you land one, especially the heavy ones. when you catch someone with an air spd, the look of defeat on their face irl is amusing. like i said 100 times before, if you want combos, move on to mika or someone else, mika is top tier and has really good throw range, almost as good as giefs

Do meaties beat Gief’s 360’s or EX 360’s? I assume so but would lose to the EX kick grab.

so meaties do beat them since they are already active, but i did do ex kick grab on some meaties, the heavies, i believe someone mashed out 2 light punches though and broke the armor, i might be wrong and it could have multiple armor hits, i didn’t have any free time to experiment more because there were too many good players there so everyone was killing each other and not letting anyone experiment too deeply

For those one said gief should have no combo are fucking retarded
The general guess game from a grabber is simple, throw or hit
No combo means no damage from hit confirm
Everyone can choose to jump away with low damage risk rather than be grabbed

Go back to street fighter 2 if you really enjoy a no combo gief :expressionless:

I agree gief dont need a big combo
He is not a combo based character
But it doesnt not means that gief should have zero combo, at least he need some basic combo but now you can mostly do crpx2~3 only for your bnb combo
