From what I’ve seen, at least Mochi has a much better understanding of the character than Fchamp. But even if Fchamp were the best, that just means there’s a lack of good Dhalsim players.
Yeah really close, except he got trounced 6-0 against a character that’s not even as bad a matchup as Dhalsim, Urien, Birdie and Guile.
He said “I wish, top 10” which can be interpreted as: “He’s probably top 10” or “I wish he were top 10”. You dismiss the latter only because it’s counter to your argument.
Except Dhalsim has and Gief hasn’t.
You honestly think a character with the aforementioned matchups has the same chance of winning a major as Dhalsim?
If Alex had a player of Itazan’s skill he would’ve done better in tournaments.
This question has been asked a million times, and we should keep asking until the logic sinks in; if Gief is in or close to top 10…if he’s soooo godlike, why does NO ONE pick up or secondary him? I’ve never seen anybody bust out a pocket Gief. Not in 5, not in 4.
It’s definitely not an aversion to grapplers because Infiltration had a pocket Hakan, Valle had a pocket Hugo and damn near every top player in S1 had a pocket Mika. Hell, the only notable people who play Gief in V are the ones that play him in every game. Infexious would’ve been the exception but he switched to Necalli lol
According to the ‘experts’ he’s a hard counter for Laura and Balrog. Strangely, no one ever counterpicks Gief against them, or any other character for that matter.
I kind of hate to say it DevilJin, cause I really do respect your opinion on most things, but if you think anyone ever intentionally tried a RBG in 4 you’re dead wrong. You only saw it on two occasions, 1.) the gief attempted a double suplex and either the opponent jumped or the spacing was wrong, and 2.) Pure accidental input.
Gotta chip in to lend Devinjin a hand. The rbg can be done in sf4 intentionally. But it’s the flying power bomb variation. When your point blank and +1. Eg after a close EXGH on hit or cross up knee drop on block or hit, as long as your +1. Load up the game and test it out.
Either way, if it was used, it was used at incredibly close range, no different from a regular command grab. I think the argument is that nobody ever used it to close the gap like you would with hugo’s meat squasher. The move truly was useless in that capacity.
Gief is fine for what I want to do with the character. I’m competitive with high diamond opponents online, I do well at locals, and I can help my friends learn a unique matchup. I don’t play in big tournaments. If I were a young man again and was interested in travel, I’d spend the time and learn a character far more likely to win a tournament, despite being a character specialist with Gief.
I like Chief’s point. If Gief is so great and such a threat at tournaments, you’d see pros pick him up and use him. The fact is he doesn’t do anything that other characters can’t and in almost every case has worse tools. He is what he is, a solid mid tier character that is fun to play.
Sometimes it takes pros a long time to realize a character is good. It took Xian winning Final Round for more than people who main Ibuki to go “oh hey this is a good character”. Now you’re finally seeing people who dont normally main Ibuki pick her up.
Sako couldnt handle the fairness of Season 1 and dropped her in the same month of her release. He’s gone back to her now online recently after talk and results.
Not that that has anything to do with Gief. Dhalsim is another character that no matter how good he gets, you wont have a lot of pros go to him. He requires a certain mindset and way of neutral that is offputting to other people looking to play a more traditional character. Not everyone can do the patient long limbs and teleport thing.
Same thing with me and Gief. I would never main him even if he was God tier. Just doesn’t fit my style.
His corner carry is absolutely ridiculous. I had him cornered in the Brazil stage when he V-triggered me across the entire stage into the other corner. I agree it’s 5.5-4.5 for Gief at best, and that’s very generous.
Yes, almost the same health, but Boxer has better damage output. Not too mention a stone wall AA, safe dash punches too fast to react to, ridiculous corner carry and better pokes. I’m inclined to say he wins this.
I’d like all the non-Gief experts to weigh in on this: who exactly ARE these characters that struggle against Gief? So far I can only think of Dictator.
Some people say Laura is a good matchup, but then you’d expect Itazan to stomp every Laura he encounters. Last time I checked his CFN it was pretty even. Also, where are the scores of counterpicking Giefs vs Laura? The character with possibly the best okizeme game is supposed to be a bad against the character with arguably the worst wakeup game?
So who are these mysterious characters that are obliterated by Gief…? Since he’s a top 10 character, there should be at least a few, right?
Because there are far easier ways for instant gratification - like beating off to a dead horse or the latest internet craze, instead of lowering your nose to the grindstone.
Definitely. Playing the Rad Russian well, means you have to travel about your day-to-day life, through a polarized len. It paints a bleak reality that is far too distorted from that of the general population of characters. Plus, you face a lot of discrimination and homophobia in the process. LOL
YOU GET THE HELL OUT! =) … I’ll die a stinking commie-loving Russian wrestler with big dreams of violating and manhandling, thank you very much!!!
I’m tryna learn Gief and while I agree he isn’t top 5 (see: Cammy, Necalli, Karin, Mika and Guile) he definitely has some good relevant matchups. He clean beats Balrog. If you’re having trouble in any situation other than a knockdown (which shouldn’t be happening much because of your massive dominance in neutral) you’re probably jumping mindlessly or you don’t understand the matchup.
Rog essentialy has no good response to jab walking combined with frequent flexing (he basically has to dash in and throw). Walk him to the corner and it’s free after that. He has no reversal. A dash happy Rog should be dead in a jiffy vs.Gief. Checkout snakeeyez vs. PRRog at E League. PRRog actually said it was 7-4 Gief on his stream.
