I reckon she may end up being considered top tier to boot. She has everything and her v-skill usage for the risk/reward is crazy good. If spaced correctly can be a real problem for certain characters to punish (particular online).
Gief’s new air headbutt is going to do work, excellent addition. As for the new counter as mentioned above it’s more of a deterrent for spammable standing mediums from cammy’s, Karins etc.
What they should have done is allowed you to command grab out of a v-skill/armor hit no matter what the range if the SPD was successfully timed. Have the recovery on a whiffed v-skill SPD increased and you have a real counter to the likes of Sim’s long reaching normals. It wouldn’t necessarily be OP as it would still require a good read and the opponent can evade still unless their normal/special has high recovery.
Something of a hybrid between what Capcom originally envisioned for Gief’s V-trigger and his limited V-skill.
Extremely situational is the best word age. Definitely not useless considering the damage and how often Gief has trouble dealing with those types of buttons
It’ll be useless. Why would you take a wild guess and risk getting crush countered? Especially when you get nothing off it other than damage. I can see Itabashi basically never using it. Even if you’re down to a pixel and are desperate wouldn’t it be better to try and land an ex.spd so you can get a mixup for comeback potential? Im sure in casuals and at scrub levels the move will be fun and will get some laughs but who cares.
And no every tool doesn’t have its uses. Perfect example is rbg in SF4, 100% useless.
You want to give Gief a counter?? Let him Reverse throws with a Brainbuster or something!! Tundra is wayyyy to situational to instill fear in the neutral.
I am wondering did Capcom really tested the new counter move before game release.
Too much problem, too specific. too slow.
Worst move in fighting game ever.
I would prefer to have a new move like Dan’s super taunt instead of this shittly counter move.
The hitbox range of new headbutt is much smaller than SF4.
Seems only good when you block ken/akuma’s exDP.
You need totally point blank position to hit opponent…
Looks like Capcom learned little of counters when they placed them in SF4 with Cammy and Fei Long it failed then and it will fail now. Some will bring up Gouken but how how many players had a consistent success rate pulling that off was low.
Pretty sure I saw people top Zangiefs use RBG even in SFIV. Dudley’s Thunderbolt was the only move I could say was nearly useless in IV. Like there was no reason to use that move other than to troll because it was basically an upside down DP with terrible frame data (just like it was in Second Impact). You would pretty much never see Smug or any other high level Dudley use it. Marn only did it back in early Super SFIV to troll.
Itabashi is the exact type of person to use something like Gief’s new counter as he’s extremely read based as a player any ways. A counter against common pokes is going to have situational, but applicable uses. Definitely not Thunderbolt tier in utility at all.
Do you even play Gief? What you just said is completely ass backwards. No you didn’t see top Giefs use rbg in 4 are u kidding me? The only reason it ever came out was because of execution error lol. Thunderbolt was bad but way better than rbg. I saw Dudleys use it a lot for chip kills including Smug.
Itabashi almost never uses rbg now but you think he’s gonna use a move which is 100x worse? We’ll see but I don’t think that’s happening.
