Looks like after Kolin Capcom said “hey you know what, counters look cool” and gave a wacky one to Gief just for the funzies.
I think that’s the same reason for the new throw.

Everyone in the main forum seems to think Gief is at least top 8 now.
Forget that he has the three worst matchups in the entire game and that he is completely helpless on defence because of the lack of a 3-frame normal and a true reversal. Forget that the Lariat is now the most easily punishable move in the game. Forget that two of his three new moves are completely useless, and the third highly situational which does nothing to improve his bad matchups.
I argued that Itazan said he’s ‘so-so’, and that he probably knows a bit more about Gief than us. No, SRK’s Super Gold lemmings have collectively decided he is top tier, and so it shall be written.
One idiot really took the cake by saying Gief vs. Dhalsim is not a lopsided matchup. According to this brain amputee, Sim vs. Rashid or Laura is much worse…
I don’t understand why they had to add Tundra Stupid or Tundra Shitty.
Seems like a band-aid fix until they address the real problems of SFV and V-Gief.
I understand that against high level footsies and fast walk speed, Big Z is a huge underdog. He no longer has the finesse to compete with the best of the best - that was the void filled by the SF4 greenhand (crouching jab/standing jab/crouching short/standing short xx EXGH can counter poke and whiff punish everything)
Tundra seems to try to be a ‘real’ answer to some of these pokes, that V-Skill should have been. It seems lazy that the V-Skill wasn’t tweaked to deal with these kinds of political problems. Perhaps shave off some frames in after-load of the V-Skill? This is critical if he doesn’t have fast enough back walk speed to evade and whiff punish.
I really have to question the hidden agenda of Tundra, and why we apparently need these new answers NOW. Instead of reducing the games input lag, and increasing the recovery hurt boxes, to make mid range and heavy crush counter pokes whiff punishable friendly.
But instead of this, we can all rejoice to the tantalising and intimate sounds of tundra, and its expansive cosmic energy. =)
Every non Gief player says the same shit, it’s not just here. They all think he’s op and they all think the useless counter is amazing smh. The fact is they did NOTHING to really improve him or his bad mu’s. You guys really need to stop being optimistic lol it’s the same stuff every time. They’ll never make him good.
And to all the people saying he’s top ten- Urien, Rog, Dictator, Ken, Claw, Ibuki, Laura, Guile, Akuma, Rashid, Cammy, Karin, Necalli, Mika. Right there you have 14 characters better than him lol and imo Chun, Birdie, Sim, and Juri are better too. Plus the ones I didn’t mention blow him up. Wtf are people seeing that I’m not?
Juri is not better than Gief
All of those characters are better vs Dhalsim than Gief. So they are better than Gief.
I’d say Juri is worse than Gief, and so is Fang. Birdie, maybe. Not entirely sure about Sim, Ryu, Chun, Alex, Kolin, and Nash. Let’s be extremely generous to Gief and say he’s better than all of them. That means that at best he’s no. 15 on the tier list as Laura, Rashid, Dictator, Claw, Boxer, Guile, Urien, Ibuki, Cammy, Karin, Ken, Necalli, Mika and Akuma are all undoubtedly better than Gief.

Zangief is already top 3 w/ the new moves he will be #1. Has way more health then everyone; guy is a tank & does so much massive damage w/ his cheap spd ground & air. Why do they continue to buff gief in every street fighter. Now they give him a counter that does spd damage, so dumb. Now they just got to give him his ST green hand to be top like he was in ST.
Okay i got no problems jumping on the “Gief is garbage” bandwagon but how is Juri worse than Gief??
Call me ignorant but she has higher mobility,better neutral game,burst damage,pressure tools and a decent CA.
Birdie also has Gief beat in my books since he has better normals,options,V-Trigger,Reversal and his CA does massive damage.
Juri and Birdie are better I agree. Both have way more tools and I think both beat Gief too, Birdie bodies Gief imo. People just think Juri sux cause that’s what everyone says and no one uses her.
