vs chun li now i feel 5-5
anti air low kick chun li many time trade , jump air leg now -2 hp chun-li -5
fire ball more recovery
Alex feels like he can pressure gief harder on wake up now, he got better confirms now, blocking his f.hp is still mixup city. Idk if that evens out the neutral game.
Also no birdie?
I like your list @filldoh and agree with most of it. I put Karin as even and Urien as a 6-4 though. Birdie is still probably a 6-4 for him too. Agree with Sim and Guile being 7-3. I am going to put FANG and Rashid as slight advantages for them, call it 5.5-4.5. Juri is either even or slight advantage for her as well.
Gief should be solid mid tier. The issue is his bad matchups are going to be popular tournament characters like Chun and this season, Guile and Urien. Top Tier characters donât have multiple uneven matchups, I have to disagree with those calling for Gief being top tier this season. I hope to eat my words, but I donât see him at the top.
If you want to practice Laura MU let me know
Itâs been a while since weâve played
I personally think the laura gief mu is 5-5
Yeah I forgot Birdie and Laura. Laura is even in Birdie I think is a 4-6 and Birdies favor.
I play both birdie and laura if anyone wants MU experience
US Plat but i can keep up with plat-ult plat and some diamonds
Mainly play BL so I dont know where my rank actually is
I agree
6-4 in birdies favor
Sounds good Pookiie. Iâll meet up with you this weekend. Friday is local casual/tournament night! Gotta try to take out Brian_F with muscle power!
Hereâs my two cents:
Even: Ken
Karin
Juri
Ibuki
Necalli
Vega
Laura
Cammy
Alex
Advantage: Bison. As filldoh said, he wants to be where Gief is most effective. His mobility can be a problem though. 5.5-4.5.
Balrog. V-skill destroys him. 5.5-4.5.
Mika. st. roundhouse, AA and V-skill make it really hard for her to get in. 5.5-4.5.
Akuma. One word: Lariat. Really fragile character, one mistake can cost him the round. 5.5-4.5.
Lose: Dhalsim. Contrary to my first impressions, I think this match is easier in S2. Buffed Lariat means he canât frivolously throw out limbs anymore, and it counters teleports nicely as well. Itâs tough, but I donât think the match is as horrible as many people think. 6.5-3.5 at worst.
Urien. Can zone Gief really well. 6-4.
Guile. This match is pretty much dependent on him making a mistake. 6-4. Actually, make that 6.5-3.5.
Nash. Can still dart in and out with impunity. A patient Nash is very hard to beat. 6-4 at best, and I think that's charitable.
Chun. Her buttons still beat yours, and st. short is still a great AA. 6-4.
Rashid. Can switch up between zoning and rushdown, makes it hard to adjust to him. 5.5-4.5.
Birdie. His littering is a pain. Good pokes too. 5.5-4.5.
FANG. Slower grey life regen hurts Gief. 5.5-4.5.
Ryu. DP still works great as an AA, his zoning is still hard to get around. 5.5-4.5.
*Edit. Forgot Chun.
Edit 2. After some consideration I think Ryu still beats Gief.
Yes slower grey life hurts gief in the fang matchup but lariat makes up for it. Fang loses two of his specials at sweep distance against gief. No need to parry in this one just bulldog in and lariat on reaction to any purple shit.
Rashid did well against gief in season one because of zoning with fireball. That is less now with lariat, the distance he owned he is now just renting.
Once gief got him close in season one rashid lost, now rashid is better close. So it seems even to me
I donât know how anyone can say Claw-Gief is even seriously lol. You must be playing Vegas that have no clue about spacing. A good Vega will make you feel like you canât do anything at all.
well I am ultra-silver so take with a hint of salt
last Vega fight I had was against a Gold Vega but it was still p close. itâs hard to enter but far from impossible
A friend of mine has a super platinum Vega and I do fine against him, even though he is a better player than I am. Properly timed headbutt beats all of his pokes and once you get in the match is in your favor.
I think people perceive it as a hard matchup because they lack matchup experience. When neither Gief nor Vega knows the matchup, Vega can âfreestyleâ his way to victory more easily.
Itâs probably because I suck at this game and donât have much experience in ANY of the muâs but it did feel very hard when I played it in season 1.
Gief vs. Claw even, ha.
Have you ever tried getting in against his Claw stance st.mp? Prolly against bad Vega players, his new buffs have mad that match-up tough. Try flexing through st.mp, youâll just get bopped.
A YOLO EX-RBG from low strong range every once in a while makes them think twice about that. Seriously, that move is underrated. Especially with the input lag in this game. And I donât really notice much of a difference between the matchup in S1 and S2.
As for Ryu, after playing a few good Ryus I think the matchup is still in his favor. Even though heâs easier to pressure on wakeup, he can still zone you pretty easily and his damage output is still great.
I played a bunch of Ryuâs today and I totally agree. If their fireball/footsie game is good itâs a nightmare.
You guys really think Laura vs Gief is even?
Laura is the same as Rog, even until they have Vtrigger and tag you with any hit. Then itâs mix-up 50/50 city and swings to their favor.
Ok here is the issue I have with everyone thinking about matchups. Gief doesnât always want to get in. Make them come to you, yes his standing mp is good but stand just out of range and tag it on wiff with your cr jab.
He can annoy the hell out of you but you can do the same.
If the character doesnât have a fireball you can zone them gief has good long range buttons. You only need to really bulldog in against people with projectiles.
