@“Vincient Wise” good looking out comrade.
Can’t wait to see what top Zangief players (including the ones on this thread) come up later on in a week to month. Its going to be great!
I’ve been happy with some of Gief’s new tricks and especially happy Siberian Express got buffed. It’s now 250 stun damage. Was 200 stun damage in S1 and EX Siberian Express is now 230 damage. Was previously 200. And Gief is rightfully the only character with the most health. Gief didn’t get his green hand special move back but I am still happy with what we got. I was checking the S2 tiers list and Gief has climbed the ladder. Although I disagree with the listing, it’s a bit too early into the new season: https://www.eventhubs.com/tiers/sf5/
I’d love the c.lp, st.lk xx lariat combo back. If Gief had it with the buffed lariat, he’d be top tier or damn near close to it. With new lariat his game is dramatically different and we need to figure out the best ways to use it. We can still confirm our lights into lariat. Get in training mode and get the feel for it. You have to break out of 10 months of season 1 Gief and embrace the muscle goodness of season 2.
exRBG has most terrible follow up afterwards.
10 more dmg is not worth for choosing exRBG instead of exSPD.
I would only use exRBG as anti-air
Seems nothing other usages are worthy.
It’s like up+ppp or up+ppp and lk I think but not 100% sure.
PPP+LK+UP during the “swooooosh”
So now that the cr.lp, s.lk lariat combo has been removed, what are the go-to confirm combos into lariat? cr.lpx2 xx lariat; cr.mp, s.lk xx lariat? Any others?
Cr.lp x2
Cr.lk, cr.lp
Someone here said St.lp, St.lk still works
Cr.mp, St.lk
St.mp, cr.lp
F.hp, St.lk
F.hp(counter-hit), cr.mk
F.mk(meaty or counter hit), St.lk
That’s probably it for practicality
LP -> LK -> Lariat
headbutt -> LK -> Lariat
Are nice, i’m liking use these
You can also LP->Lariat iirc
I’m the only who like do
fMK-> fThrow
fMK-> EX RBG
?
Hey guys looking for some help with some setups. I usually just eyeball my meaty attacks but with S2 it seems like a lot of people are mashing on wakeup. Is there a normal I can whiff or something before doing meaty after ex spd or ex rbg? I’m just looking for something to make sure I don’t get jabbed out of it.
All versions of RBG is kinda tough to really get anything off. The only thing I was able to find was either headbutt, or st.hk and st.hp; both you really can’t follow up unless you get crush counter.
Both H.SPD and EX is the same; I just visually see Zangief take a first step, and as soon as you see his foot about to touch the ground, do meaty headbutt, or knee hammer.
The EASIEST one to do which i recommend to use, is simply dash up cr.lp, which on counterhit can lead to st.lk, or even cr.lp into lariet. If you mastered SPD inputting, you can also just dash up and do another H or ex spd, although unless you are going for the stun you might as well do H.SPD to save meter. (Edit: Interesting enough, if you do dash up cr.lp, you are still close enough to do a H.SPD, which leads back into the mixup ;P)
i use it for the corner carry. with buffed larriat gief is a monster now if he gets someone in the corner.
Upon playing Gief for some matches, I see what people mean by the inconsistent lariat in combos and how the cr.lp-> st.lk-> lariet removal was less helpful. It seems that if you are anywhere far from point blank, any of his combos ending in lariat seem to miss. At least when he had the combo above, he could combo at relative distance. Seems weird Capcom give us new combo potential, and then took away one of his main way into said potential lol. All they had to do was make lariet suck people in slightly

Yeah I was really excited to have a better confirm into lariat but you’d better be damn sure you’re point blank for the first jab/short. Its nice for wakeup pressure or on a crossup, but it isn’t nearly as reliable for punishing certain moves.
edit: And thanks for the setup tips Vincient
Did anyone tested the dhalism matcutp?
Is it even worse than season 1?
Does our lariat with extended horizontal hitbox, getting more easily to hit his limbs?
Furthermore, SHP xx ca seems not too useful I thought before
However, it is extremely good for SHP antiair xx CA
Try it out

haven’t played it but tested it in the lab to try to hit his limbs
IMHO it’s worse; it’s still hard to hit limbs with even the improved Lariat, and Dhalsim got buffed with faster limbs
So has everyone been using lariat as there go to anti air?
yeah, I didn’t use anything else in S1 either honestly. I’ll use st.lp against jump backs that’s about it
What the fuck akuma seems to be one of gief’s favorable matchup… :o
