Hope Iâm dead wrong but I donât see anything thatâs gonna not make him the worst character in the game still. Obviously, weâll see how things turn out in the next months but I still think heâs gonna suck ass. Still canât get in, still free and wakeup, and now less damage on the two most important spdâs. The ex.rbg âbuffâ is nothing imo. How many times will you land that move against a good player? Also the lariat whiff punish is nothing like st.lk to gh we had in 4, not even close.
some of our hardest matchups were âfixedâ by the nerfs the other characters received: Nash, Mika, Birdie (altho to be fair Mika may have been a balanced matchup and only my scrubbiness gave me trouble)
but some of the other people still look hard to me: Dhalsim and Guile in particular
the changes make Zangief better, in particular Lariat alone is great, but dunno if the grey health nerf fucked Zangiefâs hardest matchups, where what you want is V-Trigger bar and not super bar. At least V-trigger lasts for loooong now
would not be surprised if Zangief actually has some 6-4 in his favor now but still has 4-6 and worse against. Urien is also suspiciously buffed in ways that make me nervous
Dont use slk xx ppp as whiff punish as it will also whiff lariat when distance is too far
I tried to whiff punish chunli cmk in training mode, it often whiffs, but will connect when slk counter hit
Btw, the grey life nerf is totally nerfing gief and buffing dhalism
I feel I have to wait for 1 year to recover even just absorbed 1 fireball, fuck capcom
New lariat is still bad, it still isnât going to hit if youâre any more than a couple pixels away from your opponent. Disappointed, think Gief is still undeniably low tier.
new lariat is great but itâs still punisheable as fuck if it misses/is blocked. tho you shouldnât use it when it is gonna be blocked cause you are comboing into it
sLK->Lariat is too fast for my reactions to use as a whiff punish, and honestly, that is going to be nerfed at some point. people who can abuse it should milk it now before they add some other weird exception to sLK like they did to cLK where the moves after are slowed down two frames
Why would they nerf a character with the worst combo ability in the game to have less combo potential, st.lk xx lariat is just a poor mans green hand tbh. Thereâs nothing nerf worthy about it, you donât even get follow-up pressure.
dunno if theyâd like the slowest character to have a great whiff punish that is not a well timed SPD. it is too fast for me but younger people will use it and abuse it
they seem very determined that characters should be played their way. depending on how it is changed, it needs not affect the rest of giefâs combo ability
also reddit tells me that sLK + PPP is an option select right now, where Lariat wonât come out unless sLK connects (of course this still means blocked sLK which is disastrous)
I seriously donât feel as though a sub-150 damage combo into no follow-up pressure should be considered too much for Gief, every time Iâm out of range to punish something Iâm just thinking âif I had green hand, I could stop thisâ
Anti air lariet seems better. Iâm swatting people out of cross ups more. It still trades and even flat out loses sometimes but it seems to work a little better. Maybe itâs just wishful thinking, I donât know.
They probably didnât want him to have combos off stray hits, but rather consistent and stronger combos on oki to make the opponent think more before jumping/backdashing, which opens up more SPDs.
Also, he got a lot scarier on AAâs and in the corner. Off of a close AA jab or cr.HP, you can do CH headbutt, cr.MK xx lariat for 254 damage. And the CH is SUPER easy to confirm so you donât have to do it on a read or have gdlk reactions. I put the TM dummy on random CH and can get it 100% of the time, and my reactions are just decent.
Ohho! nice find. I just realized his meaty headbutt just got better as I see now you can do that CH Headbutt, cr.mk combo every time you land a a ex-spd now.
