Yes it does, but since cr.lk, spd is a true mixup now and lariat hits from further ranges light tick throw mixiups are potentially stronger. Not even talking about st.lk sucking opponents in now apparently

Yeah. We need to re-evaluate the bread and butter combo into the buffed lariat. But without the crouch LP. Stand LK link - we lose a fair amount of utility. Quite significant if you factor in this being the bread and butter link in Season 1.

It would be a backhanded buff, if we could combo into this awesomely buffed lariat, but we had fewer chances to do so. ie. from crouch MP or frame trap into stand LK.

The SPD damage and white life recovery change is TOO huge

ExRBG damage buff, will use it more for antiair

Smp can combo into clp but seems meaningless

So they nerf spd damage but buff ex-rbg? A move that Gief players almost never use or never land lol ok. And they take away his bnb, cr.lp-st.lk?

Between the cr. jab nerf, less spd damage and the slower grey life regeneration, could it be that Gief is actually worse in season 2…?

He also has the following CH combos:
cr. LK, cr. MP xx Lariat
cr. LP, cr. MP xx Lariat
st. LP, cr. MP xx Lariat
st. MP, cr. MP*, cr. LK

  • cr. MP looks to be 6f now.

Other stuff that works:
st. LP, cr. LP xx Lariat
CC st. HP, st. HK xx CA is a true combo (521/315)

What if I told you that after st. MP you can go into H SPD point blank?

How about fixing the damn RBG motion. How many Gief users have lost because you are trying to play footisies and it incorrectly reads as you doing the RBG.

Not a combo, but you’re in range for it. So basically they cannot fuck around with your st. MP that much. At worse you get st. MP, cr. LK, cr. LP which does 121 dmg.
It looks like st. HP and st. HK xx VTC is now +3, was it always like that?

On block? I believe blocked st.HP xx VTC was plus if st.HP touches at the absolute max range. IIRC, st.HK VTC has always been negative unless the st.HK hit.

Yeah I meant on hit. So no changes in regards to that.

I think gief will actually be worse. This is kinda ridiculous. I may actually be done with capcom fighters, they clearly don’t know what they’re doing anymore.

Grey damage change hurts Gief no doubt… but I’m struggling to see how he is any worse for wear with the tools he has.

Can someone who thinks he’s worse explain it to me? In my mind he’s exponentially a stronger character but I admit to not having as much time with the character as other folks here.

I haven’t played in months but I always thought he lost every mu and was the worst character in the game by far and just looking at these changes it looks like he will stay that way. Also what about the rest of the cast? It doesn’t seem that any of his really bad mu’s will get that much better will they? And the weaker characters will get better so they will still be way better than him probably. I don’t see anything groundbreaking here but I don’t play him anymore so maybe I’m way behind now, who knows.

I can’t speak for others, but in my opinion the damage nerf of strong and fierce spd is huge. Especially the strong spd is a big part of my game. Also, the v-skill is your only hope of getting in in certain matchups. Sometimes it’s just plain guess work. The risk/reward ratio was already skewed in Gief’s disadvantage, and with the slower life regeneration it’s even worse.

His buffs do nothing to address his shortcomings. He’s still vulnerable on wakeup, unless the lariat got an invincible frame (as if).

Think the main complaints people are having is that he lost damage on SPD tied with the fact that flexing in neutral is a lot riskier now due to the changes. That makes flex > SPD a far riskier option resulting in his somewhat shitty neutral being neutered just slightly more.

He’s gained more than he’s lost though, the lariat buff is too big to ignore and all of his frame data changes make him a 50/50 monster when close.
