Zangief General Thread: Our Russian Skies Are Protected

I heard it’s 2 cr lp into st lk, but it’s hard to tell at this point what’s true and what’s rumor

You can confirm from 2x cr.lp easy enough, if they make it a 3 button confirm it only sweetens the deal

Ultradavid said the combo is cr lp cr lp st lk(st lk apparently pulls opponents in now?) lariat which means Gief has his sf4 bnb back just lariat instead of greenhand. That is really good if true

What I’d like in addition to the new combo:

  1. SPD throw-invincible from start-up. You shouldn’t constantly have to worry about being tick thrown while you’re trying to inch forward.

  2. SPD quicker recovery. 52 frames, or almost a full second, is simply too much

  3. CC low fierce. In lieu of an invincible AA Lariat this would be a good compromise.

  4. Shave off 3 frames of his forward dash to make it 22 frames. It would still be the slowest forward dash in the game but at least on par with Bison’s.

If this were implemented I could, reluctantly, do without Green Hand.

Wow thats a really nice buff. You wont be able to throw projectiles at gief now without giving him v-gauge OR critical meter

Its good to know hes getting more than just the lariat buffs. Im excited for these patch notes though I am worried about the throw nerfs going around hopefully Giefs command grabs will be fine

I cry in my sleep every night hugging my Gief plushie over the fact that cr.hp can’t CC people.

I think that button was designed with CC in mind, just look at it’s animation and data. It screams “don’t jump at me or eat this CC”

They said they’re giving more recovery frames to whiffed grabs and command grabs so RIP number 2. Don’t whiff your grabs.

So you’re going to have to do without green hand any ways. Just have to settle with Green Head.

Headbutt eating fireballs buff is amazing. 2 CAs a round here we go!

Nope, currently headbutting fireball gives nothing. This is a great buff.

if you look at the original Zangief reveal trailer, you can see him do cr HP against a jumping opponent, and then a jumping SPD (or borscth dynamite whatever)

so dunno if CC but at least it was better

Can’t remember if it launched by default hit or it was CC only but yeah I remember, that’s why I think the button is stuck in limbo right now, without the CC property/launch property it’s just kinda weird. It works as a reset tool for jumping characters I suppose, but you’d just use St.lp anyway for better advantage on their landing.

Pretty sure the Russia build or whatever had that button CC but the next beta had it removed.

I guess they thought giving him both St.hk and cr.hp as two solid far and close CC anti air options was too strong

Would love to see cr.hp cc or launch. Alex’s does! cr.hp to air ex spd would do like 288 damage though.

I don’t want it to be CC I just want it to not trade so much.

If you do it earlier it should win clean more often. The thing is kinda slow at 9 frames, but it does have 6 active frames. That’s a big deal.
