I’ll take your word for it, but from what I have heard there are ways to combo into his grabs. We’ll see. Most of these tvs they make people play on are pretty laggy I’ve heard any ways. Not sure if you had good monitors to play on or not.
Still don’t buy that he doesn’t have combos. They probably are just more situational or use different normals or specials now. I’ll wait for the beta, but thanks for the info.
I would like to remind everyone that the game is still ages away, and Gief was probably rushed for Russia. What he has now is no reflection of what he will be. Look at early Chun Li compared to where she is now.
Looks like he was turned into a more articulate version in relation to all others before this one or a more diverse character.
Fear beating people into running or making panic decisions so that he can
either pick off or compromise a character based on either not wanting to be
near him or the fact that they are in the air about to land or blocking one
of his attacks.
Can’t wait for the PC Beta.
Those who dare win.
I think that new wave players (4 and super 4 and ultra 4) listen to strategy guides and F.A.Q. to the point of being uniform I doubt the air command throw will be much of a change he looks like they just upgraded him enough to include him, no banishing flat so that means that the air command means that he most likely will be about punishing up close and baiting for punishment in air or post block (which will most likely lead into V-skill into meaty punishment EX command throw?) which is what he is about the thing that I have not seen anyone try in any of the footage is tick throw or cheese throw.
Like air splash medium ducking command throw…
(hoping for something like that or the command throw characters are going to be weak on logic of execution)
also in A3 geif v-ism from some reason he would just jump across the whole screen with that glitch. Even Bass lost a few times to the best A3 gief in japan.
It also beats jumps and some backdashes/anti-throw moves, but the primary point is to call out reversals as oki or in neutral. A normal air spd isn’t going to do that, although it is likely to be really good for air to airs. Ex air spd might have enough invul/active frames to perform a similar role, but I wouldn’t expect it.
A special move that sucks up reversals would be a bit much. I’m sure U2 still catches people just jumping or backdashing away as well. The range if good would make it good for certain air to airs like you said as well.
I heard SSF2 Guile had an OP s.LK game too. Unless I was mistaken.
Anybody else think his air command grab won’t be used that much? It’s not like his SFIV U2 where it catches you if you jump anywhere close to him. It will only catch you if you are next to him in the air. Think Guy’s command throw in SFIV and how little use it has. Now, I know Zangief is a different character altogether, but I still don’t see his air command grab being any better than, say, j.HK or j.down+HP.
Funny thing is everyone in HF was so good that Gief was completely fair in that game. That game was strangely quite balanced. Like it was marvel “everyone is broken, so it’s balanced” before marvel. And by accident too.
Guys grab is really good. Complements his run stop pressure game and catches people if they are standing. You also have a million frame perfect setups for it that can’t be crouched.
He’s talking about the Izuna Drop. Which doesn’t get used because Guy normally Bushin Flips which has a great grab on it and that the EX version of the Izuna Drop isn’t invincible through active frames
