Figure out when to use it as a meaty vs confirming into the hit. Gief isn’t the only character with v-trigger setups that lose to v-reversal.
Which else character’s meatly vt setup lose to v reversal too?
V-reversal vs a character that does blocked normal into v-trigger activation is pretty standard. A lot of the stronger set-ups will lose to it (R.Mika, Dhalsim, Ken, etc). Even without the meaty, if you guess confirm into Zangief V-Trigger and hold for level two the opponent can just V-reversal against you.
His v-trigger is still strong, there’s just another defensive element to consider when using it.
I just spent almost a month and than finally beat hard mode survival mode.
However has anyone here passed hell mode survival? I cant imagine how difficult it will be especially playing with gief.

Oh it’s there. You don’t flat out lose to it, but your expected value drops. Because all your answers to Hadouken just got a few % weaker, shaving off those 2-3 recovery frames, reducing your reaction window.
Right now, not happy with the input lag.
You really shouldn’t parry any fireballs, except the FIRST ONE from full screen. Risk the white life, only if you score immediately. So only parry the coupling pressure, which ryu can’t do well, unlike Chun Li or Nash.
Blocking is ok when you can’t neutral jump. But its your safest option when your anti-fireball options aren’t strong enough until you walk closer. And you don’t want to gamble on Stand MK/Stand HK/Headbutt to counter hit hadouken start up.
Do you guys think there’s even a slight chance they will fix the input lag catastrophe? That combined with online rollback makes this game a complete joke imo and makes Gief even worse if that’s possible. It’s almost like they did everything they could to make him completely useless in this game.
Probably, from a technical standpoint it is possible. The question is how long it will take, could be a week could be a year.
I think the input lag hurts our reaction blocking and flexing the most. I’m getting hit by stupid stuff that I know I’m blocking like Bison slides. Maybe I’m getting old.
We can use the input lag in our favor too though. It makes tick RBGs impossible to react to and instead they have to predict it and beat it with jump or reversal. It is the same principle with Nash Scythe, you sure as hell see it on the screen but by that time it is too late. If you’re doing point blank St.lk or cr mediums xx RBG they can’t react to it.
Pretty sure the input lag is a technical problem that will be addressed in the future. It impacts all players negatively and has nothing to do with character balance, so there’s no excuse to avoid it.
Do not try to use it for gimmicks though, no point in building bad habits just because opponents can’t react in time.
Are you guys playing on PC or PS4? Im thinking of picking up the PC version just to see if my reaction is really bad or the input delay is the main cause…My reaction blocking/punish has never been awesome but it really has never been this bad. I might just set up to play against ps4 players only too for now.
Finally reached Super Gold after hitting a big ass losing streak that had go down to Super Silver ugh. I swear I don’t know how some players can just play for hours and hours, I’ve tried it and that’s how end up just crashing.
I stop at 4001 and just play casuals.
Just obliterated Vega’s CA with Cr HP, is this well known? The Vega player gave up after that and stood still and let me kill him. No rage quit surprisingly.
Well. Siberian shoryuken does have a nice anti-air hit box.

Some moves in the game have unthrowable frames like Knee Hammer. Thanks @GreeceMonke for pointing that out. But can still be hit for a full ground combo. And some moves have airborn frames. I believe Mika may have both. So we could grab her with the BD. Except for one important thing…
She hits us, before we can hit her. She benefits from a good anti-air hit box.

You need side on action, to be successful. That’s why you can grab, shoryukens. Because they whiff side on.
They should give the HP BD great anti-ground lower hitbox, so we can once again protect the skies.
Did you guys enjoy all the great Gief action on stream this weekend from Stunfest and Toryuken? I was all Giefed out and couldn’t take it anymore. I picked up tons of tech, can’t wait. I wish the character wasn’t so strong and everyone played him.
It’s a shame all the early posters in this thread were right, Zangief really is top tier and far too strong.
