Birdie 4/6 Gets in he is fine but that is a bitch
Cammy 5/5 she gets in she can kill you but she cant really get through your normals
Chun 3/7 fuck her
Sim 3/7 fuck him
Fang 4/6 you win once cornered but he can keep you out really well.
Karin 4/6 she has better shit all around.
Ken 5/5 fair
Laura 6/4 you win at distance and up close YAY
Bison 4/6 he wins at distance and up close unless you knock him down.
Nash 2/8 FUCKFUCK FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK!
Necalli 5/5 you win before he has vtrigger he wins then.
Rmika 5/5 both have the same gameplan, your are better at range and she is better up close.
Rashid 5/5 Annoying but he does low damage so as long as you keep your cool it is fair.
Ryu 5/5 gief was specifically given tools around ryu fireballs with vtrigger and vskill. very fair.
Vega 5/5 once claw is off he loses to gief, with claw on he wins
Alex 5/5 same gameplan as you, you are better up close with a faster throw he is better at distance.
Guile 4/6 he keeps you out well, but once you are in he has to take risks to get out.
this is how i see it now as i have played good players from each of these characters.
Gief is even with 8, wins one, and loses to 9.
Chun and Nash are nightmares. Chun can just normal you to death and her hit confirms are insane. A good Nash is very hard to even touch much less beat.
Bison I struggled with, on one hand I feel the neutral is even up close bison has so many plus frames. This one is tough to figure out.
Dammit. Finally got to Super Silver today. Then got matched up against three Nash and two Sims all back to back. Now I’m back to 2700. I just want to get to Gold for the trophy then I can stop caring about points. This game… how do you even explain it? It’s fun, but it’s also frustrating as hell when you’re so disadvantaged. If they don’t buff up my man a bit, I’m seriously considering dropping online altogether when I get Gold.
Ryu is a 3:7 matchup if he really know how to zone you out, who has the pure patience to pay pure fireball game against Gief. It would only be 5:5 when you meet a regular/aggressive Ryu.
Bison is 6:4 in Gief’s favor, he really has no tools on wake up, Gief can apply heavy pressure once you get a knock down. The footsie war may be slightly Bison’s favor.
Alex is a suckass character who worse than Gief, 6:4 matchup
Karin is 6:4, Gief can just spam c.lp to stop Karin’s everything.
Sim may be 4:6 if you have enough patience, every time he almost dead once you get in.
Getting in Sim in SF5 is MUCH EASILER than SFIV.
Fighting against a good Sim in SF4 is impossible but it is now possible, sure it will still be hard match but his fireball do less trouble than SF4
LP Hadouken with its 31 recovery frames, needs to be nerfed, to around 33 to 34 like the MP and HP versions
Boscht Dynamite needs increased **vertical **hitbox to grab aerial anti-airs
Ryu i really feel Geif was designed to fight. vskill works great against him plus his fireball has more recovery and it is -10 on block. when you get vtrigger all of the zoning goes away. i cant see how this is in ryus favor.
Bison is a tough matchup to grade. he wins the neutral but like you said his wakeup sucks. That is why i think it is fair.
Alex is not shit, he is better than gief in so many ways. Better damage off hitconfirms, better walkspeed and better dash. His st MK is a real problem for gief and gief has no wakeup once knocked down. On the flip side his throw is slower and you can compete but i dont see how alex wins this.
Karin yes you can c Lp most of her stuff but a good Karin can wiff punish your c lp if you spam it, and you need to hit 3-5 c lp to equal one wiff punish. She has better frames across the board, how does gief dominate this match?
Sim how is he easier to get in on. in SF4 gief could lariat limbs, yes it was a risk but it was a risk for sim to throw out limbs because of lariat threat. He could also focus dash and greenhand.
now we have no threat at distance and sim is better once we get in? how is this easier than 4?
Gief loses to everyone imo. There’s no way Ken, Ryu, and Claw are even mu’s. Laura might be close but I think she’s still being slept on and is a scary character. She reminds me of SF4 Abel and Makoto all in one. Gief might also have the top three worst mu’s in the game with Nash, Sim, and Chun. I really don’t see him winning against any character at the highest level if the other person KNOWS the mu.
I’m not in favor of nerfing even more characters that already are strong.
How many times was Ryu nerfed over the course of the betas?
Rather, the bottom tier should be made stronger.
In my humble opinion, I do think Zangief is bad in this game, but not because he is BAAAAAAAAD, like, “unplayable” bad. He just demands a lot more from you in terms of reading your opponents tendencies than it was ever before.
Ryu’s lp hadouken is POWERFUL, I agree, but that adds a nice mind game, Zangief can block in advance, vskill, vtrigger, headbutt. The other person is not a machine, I don’t think he will remain still doing just that until he wins, I never saw that happening, actually… Eventually he will make a mistake and we will capitalize from it. Hell, because Zangief is so easy to be rushed in this game it’s actually better to GO IN than to zone him out.
Maybe it’s because I was a Gouken main in sf4, I see the struggle, but I don’t really feel the need of bashing the character design. I mean, most of the time, when I lose with Gief I usualy perceive that’s my fault, that I didn’t properly forced my opponent in making mistakes or missed some spd input, or simply wasn’t patient enough. Which is better than when I played Gouken, when I felt completely overwhelmed against most of the cast without chance to win at all.
To me, tiny adjustments would make Zangief viable WITHOUT making him the brainless scrub killer everyone hated to play against.
“When I hit bottom, I was crushing man’s skull like sparrow’s egg, between my thighs… and I think, why you have to be so bad, Zangief? Why can’t you be more like good guy? Then I have moment of clarity… if Zangief is good guy, who will crush man’s skull like sparrow’s eggs between thighs? And I say, Zangief you are bad guy, but this does not mean you are bad guy.” - Zangief.
Just a functional lariat that anti airs people so people have something to fear when jumping in, Functional normals that don’t get outclassed by other grapplers, a walk speed that you can actually play footsies with. Command grabs that work (running bear grab had it’s uses in sf4 why not here). Something to fear zangief when he approaches you and something o fear when he is distant.
Really think that capcom intentionally made him bad because they did not want him to be decent. I switched over to birdie and while thats a whole different matter i am having way more fun because when i lose it is always my fault. Not that every matchup is 4-6 from the start and i have to play twice as good and still get bodied.
no one in the world designs a character for being “bad” don’t be ridiculous.
in what world, please … in WHAT WORLD, was RBG any good in SF4?
What is better, playing 1 year a weaker Zangief and when he gets his buffs, you feel super happy and win much more matches OR you play a way too OP Zangief (SF4 vanilla) and then he gets nerfed every patch till he is shit?
RBG wasn’t but the close 360+k move was awesome (I thought so anyway).
I love this version of Gief. For those who think all of his matchups are 10-0, what are you doing playing him or posting here still? Not being snarky, I genuinely want to know.
@Mesenkohama why you no do the Gief taunt greet :(.
Edit: RBG was ass in 4 if anything it cost you more matches when you tried to do instant U2 and that would come out instead. I was always adamant that the move needed a cancel like the one Hakan received. You must be talking about the German Suplex that was the go to K360 move since it gave you corner carry the main thing Gief desperately needs in this game.
Edit: I would welcome OP Gief if other characters can be OP why not a grappler.
