Zangief Combo/Tech Thread: Tips and tricks from the mother land!

Wow did not know that, Vtrigger into air ex SPD sounds awesome. Thanks. So you can jump in HK> s.hk>vTrigger>air ex SPD?

jump in HK> s.hk>vTrigger>air ex SPD?
Yes you can
However I do not combo air ex SPD so often because it does not do too much damage…
I love resetting by

  1. vTrigger>knee>headbutt hit confirm>super or lk>lariat
Massive damage, easy set up, easy confirm, the main reset I am using

  2. v Trigger>knee>SPD
v Trigger>knee>s.mp (whiff)>CA (The whiffed CA helps you having more time to buffer 720)

  3. vTrigger>front dash s.hk>ex SPD
Snakeeyez love this reset, but I do not like this so much as you almost only can do SPD/exSPD/CA after S.HK
The timing and spacing making gief can not do “hit option” after S.HK…so I use this reset in only sometimes.

Ah thanks you too bro. I’ll definetely practice all of these. Although I just recently discovered how to do the SPD a little easier but 2 of those for the super will take time, any tips or short cuts for that?

720s are very easy in this game. You don’t need to do the full command. Think of the stick as a number pad on a keyboard and you are holding the stick to the left. You do this: 412369874(full 360)12369. Notice you’re ending the input well before you are completing a 720.

i do the full 720 still easy to do specially if youre going to buffer it after a headbutt, a dash, f.mk or if you feel real lucky after an empty jump

720 is still very hard for me, in the more complicated cancels.

Something like cr.LK. cr.LK xx CA is the staple combo, netting you many wins

I’ll have to spin it towards, clockwise, and buffer some of it, for fear of the PENALTY EXPRESS

Don’t know if this will help.

My fingers aren’t fast enough to cancel directly off one cr lk, so I buffer one 360 after first cr lk, and the second 360 on the next. It takes some work to make it reliable, but it’s still easier for me

wouldnt this do a RBG

Not if he does it counter clockwise.

Is there any good use of cr.lk besides buffering 720? I personally never used it because the cr.lp is too good.

I asked the same question a few days ago too. It hits low and is pretty useful for that.

Could you give some examples please? Doesn’t cr.lp hit low too?

No. Zangiefs only low hitting moves are Cr.LK/MK/HK

Rest can be blocked with a standing or crouching block.

I throw the CR.lk in there in between c.LP chains or in place of when you normally would CR.jab. It sneaks up on people in the corner when you’re applying pressure too. Walk up cr.lk at max distance is nice when you see them just holding back.

I use it before throwing a HP SPD. I feel it gives lower block/hitstun than cr. LP. And it seems to not push the opponent that much.

i’d just go with j.HK headbutt CA because CA sometimes miss depending on the range

I’ve never been able to do LP into CA or LK in CA. No idea how any of you do that. It seems to require a churning speed I do not possess. Same with crMP into CA.

I’m also having a lot of trouble doing meaties with Gief in this game. Has anyone compiled a good list of those?
So far I’ve been trying to use fHP and a decently spaced crMK but it’s extremely hard for me to time it right.
Setups after common Gief knockdowns in particular are what I’m looking for. I’ve been trying to do the back throw into meaty crMP setup from earlier in the thread but even that is proving to be difficult.

headbutt, c.mp and s.HP charge are the meaties

LP SPD - Nothing
MP SPD - ???
HP SPD - st.HP, st.HK (you will get fucked if they duck this)
Lariat (no back tech) - headbutt, st.HP, st.HK, f.MK
EX SPD - dash up normal throw, st.HP, headbutt, st.HK, cr.MP, f.MK, V Trigger (+3)
EX Air SPD - f.HP, st.HK, st.HP, V Trigger **
Back throw - f.MK, cr.MP **

** There’s more for these but I can’t remember off the top of my head and I don’t wanna give misinfo.

Also, off of back throw, I would suggest doing meaty f.MK. If you time it perfect, then if it hits you can combo into st.LK xx Lariat or CA even if it’s not counterhit. It may be plus on block as well but I’d need to double check.

knee is -3 on block
