Well that’s why Youtube’s so great. Since you can watch OCG matches and see the writing on the wall MONTHS before it happens. Yugioh is basically the Card Game version of Marvel, only players are a lot more douchey. Some people can handle it, others can’t. Most of the people that can’t, are the ones that played it years ago ironically and are the ones that believe that back then was the only true way to play Yugioh.
TBQH, there was NEVER a time the meta was GREAT for Yugioh. There’s always one thing after another that send people into fits. If you can handle the speed, honestly this is the most balanced the meta has been as long as I’ve kept up with the game (it’s been years…I can’t even remember…I’m thinking back to old beat down decks…). It’s not for everyone though, and it’s fine. I don’t even play often anymore myself, but I’ve grown tired of CCG’s in general.
^pretty much…Played since the game was just Y/K starter decks… And this has to be the most interestin the game’s been in a long time… Theres a big array of decks viable now… And I remember when only a few formats ago it was like 2-4…
That said… This game has to have one of the worst player bases… 70% either cheat or are complete dicks…

Just need my vennomin and OCG vennominaga and i’ll be set to have a deck to at least play some games with.
Currently the meta is at its most diverse it has been in a while. I just think its so stupid that they banned Heavy Storm and not Cold Wave. And about 80% of the players now cant take a loss without bitching and moaning.
I’m wanting to start playing YGO, and I would like some advice as what I should initially purchase; constructed decks, starters, tins, boxes, etc. I was planning on purchasing two constructed decks, a tin, the Legendary Collection Set, and eventually a box; any set recommendations would be much appreciated.
Also, where is the best place online to buy singles? I’m familiar with Troll & Toad and AdventuresOn.com
Well it depends what kind of deck you wanna build. If you get 3 Marik Structure decks, you can make a Gravekeeper deck. But you’ll need 3 copies of Pot of Duality to make them tournament ready.
Dont buy the Legendary Collection, only 1 pack is worth it in there. Ebay is a good way to get cards for a cheap price.
Hmm…well the best deck I would say to start with, is one with all the fundamentals you need (like Storm in MvC2). Unfortunately, I can’t think of one at the top of my head.
Also, you’re not at that bad of a disadvantage. There’s so much media you can easily learn now.
Haha, honestly, if it weren’t for ‘Gatherer’, I never would have started playing Magic. I’m not really interested in playing ‘what other people are playing’; basically, I want to start slow and then create decks after gaining some experience.
I’d say start with Gladiator Beasts. . .it’s a deck that isn’t really all that big right now, but it’s solidity virtually never changes imo. . .that and its relatively cheap right now to build… Almost everything in the deck has a common version or an easy to grab reprint…
I guess what I meant when I said ‘constructed’ was the pre-packaged constructed decks available for puchase.
That’s how I started with Magic: I bought a fat pack, figured out my flavour, and built decks from the ground-up once I became experienced. Also, I can buy 50 Random Foil Holo Rares for $10. This may not seem like a great thing for experienced, avid players, but for someone just starting, it sounds like a great way to get my hands on some pretty cool cards.
For sure the current ban list has made a lot of decks more viable now and you have tier 1.5 and tier 2 decks making top 16 in tournaments. Still the strategies between the top decks are pretty much clear the field synchro swarm for game. X-Sabers, Dragunities, Six Samurai, DebiHime, Black Feathers, and Infernities all work this way. How they go about doing this is the only difference. It’s definitely much better then the chaos era and Dark Armed Dragon ruling all decks. Holy shit did I ever hate Dark Armed Dragon decks ruling the meta. That was probably one of the worst metas for Yugioh.
Sure, a lot of decks use a Synchro engine, but they all play differently. You’d be hardpressed to say an EHAZ deck runs just like a Six Sam deck, or a Blackwing Deck.
Synchro engine’s all well and good, but the base of the deck has to be able to thrive without it. Most of those decks can.
if you want a cheap deck thats easy to play and very competitive try blackwings. I’ll half-ass a decklist right now as cheap as possible.

that’s the best I can make it being as cheap as possible - there’s a bunch of other great commons like dark bribe and reckless greed too. the only problem is the extra deck is where things start to pick up, but even still stardust dragon and goyo guardian were tin promos and aren’t hard to get a hold of.
gravekeepers is also a dirt cheap deck to make now that the marik structure is readily available. only thing you’d need to buy is the recruiters. plus, it has no real need for an extra deck.
Six Sams could possibly be getting hit when the March banlist comes out. Since YCS Dallas is about a week or two after the release of STOR, and its a very high possibility that they wont just win but also get all the top 4 spots, Konami might just hit them to keep them from getting gdlk. Gateway to 1 should do the trick, or maybe even Gateway to 1 and Grandmaster to 2 and one of the new Six Sams to 2.
And the only reason Konami wont hit Gravekeepers hard is because no one saw them coming.
It makes no sense to do an emergency ban list that quickly because Konami needs to make profits off of the new cards first. I can only recall 1 time where Konami NA did an emergency ban list against to stop RFG ressurrection with Dark decks. At that time games ended in 2-3 turns frequently with DAD drop blow up 3 then flip RftDD or Dimension Fusion for game.
Synchros are getting more and more stupid now. Tech Genus Hyper Librarians is a Level 5 Spellcaster Synchro 2400ATK with the effect of drawing 1 card everytime someone synchro summons. Synchro’s do not need a draw engine with themselves. You banned D-Hero - Disk Guy for a reason…
