What do you guys use as a consistent AV combo, both midscreen and corner? I’ve tried a lot of variations but they all randomly drop or cross sides. Bonus points if they end in hard knockdown.
As an aside, for everybody using morridoom and landing in the corner, if missiles are going to pick up the opponent, consider doing Finishing Shower (hold up) instead of Shadow Servant. It does more damage and leaves them at about the same height, allowing many supers to still connect. I’m doing that with Spiral Swords and it adds about 70-80k damage (enough to avoid using another super on some characters).
OMFG I just got the following to work once (and probably only once):
Morrigan j.S, s.LM, c.MH, f.H, j.MMH, Soul Fist H, Fly, ADD, j.H, Soul Fist H, Unfly, s.MH, c.H, s.S, sj.MMH, Shadow Blade M, Fly, j.H, TAC up to Phoenix, j.MMH, f.H, Fly, j.MH, TK Shot L, Phoenix Rage -> Astral Vision, jump, Soul Drain, Fly, Soul Drain, j.S (hits into hard knockdown)
I could probably Soul Drain x Shadow Servant, but I as so shocked it worked that I didn’t think of it until now. This will probably never work again, but I wanted to share.
Ended with 4.3 bars of meter. Not sure what the damage was because I was too excited.
JRosa dominating opponents using Soul Drain is a sign we need to step it up and find some stuff.
With Ammy (in corner): s. :l:c.:h:f.:h: j.:h:Soul Fist:l: xx fly ADD j.:h:Soul Fist L xx unfly s.:h: and Cold Star Soul Fist :s: xx fly j.:s: s.:s: :h: Shadowblade /:h: Finishing Shower
You can also cancel s.:h: into AV before you Soul Drain and get two Soul Drains in instead. My goal is to try to optimize Soul Drain combos to make them my BnBs. It’s not even about taking my opponents meter; having an AV or two after every combo is too good to pass up.
I posted this exact same thing in the Soul Drain setups thread, I just wanna make sure more people see this.
You wanna know what would be even better? When you combine this plus her shadow-blade infinite. I haven’t tried it, but in theory it should work. Considering if you combine the marlin tech and the tech with jill that was found she should be able to kill all on her on, and gain stupid meter.
Holy fuck, trying so hard to just learn this characters execution, let alone the character herself. Feels like I hit training mode and I nail everything perfect for the first 30-40 minutes and then my hands get worn out and it all goes to poop.
Oh well, maybe Morrigan execution is like a muscle, the more I use it and put stress on it, it’ll get easier to do.
Anyway theres two things in particular that are a little confusing ( well I think I understand where the issues are I just need confirmation I guess )
When I do st.S, j.H, Soul Fist L, fly, ADD, J.h, Soul Fist H, unfly, j.mh, Soul Fist L, fly, [ADD, j.H]
In the bracket is where i’m having trouble with this combo for some reason, I can’t consistently get that j.H to come out. Am I not allowed to cancel Morrigans dash into an attack for some duration? Is it a height requirement thing during the dash? I can’t really figure it out. It feels like I have to hit a link somewhere in that dash for some reason to get a j.H to come out.
Doing the above BnB, I find that they get knocked away too far for me to relaunch when I land with st.S, i’ve been able to remedy this by using different versions of Soul Fist but that comes with the issue that they are really high when I relaunch and i’m only able to get j.HS or j.MHS which kind of fucks with my oki/setups. I suppose the other fix would be to wait longer during my ADDs to hit j.H so I fly closer to them. Any tips for what other Morrigans have done to stabilize this?
Oh and, any tips for how to keep my hands from developing carpal tunnel ;_;?
I play Chris G’s team, and there are a lot of things he could be doing with SDs that he isn’t using, but I feel like he’s just holding onto tech until he really needs it.
For example, my corner BnB for a while has been:
:l::a1::f: SD xx fly SD xx unfly, land, j.:h: SF:h: xx fly ADD j.:h: SF:l: xx unfly :a2:, land, :s: j.:h::s:, land, SD xx Finishing Shower xx Spiral Swords into loops.
The reason I think he’s holding onto tech is because I saw him use the above combo at APEX once, but never again, not even against Filipino’s phoenix team.
Personally, I try to get SD combos and meter stealing setups as often as I can, perhaps to my own detriment. I feel like the meter disparity potential is too strong to ignore.
The way I learned Morri’s motions was to slow down everything considerably, and experiment with the motions until I found a way to do it that didn’t hurt and didn’t feel awkward. I had to do this because my wrist was hurting for a whole day after a long set and that was a red flag for me. As a bonus, I’m much more consistent, can play longer sets (3-4 hours) without issue and I’m not hurting anymore.
Another important thing is to find a position where the stick doesn’t move like a madman while inputing the motions. I use my wallet / cell in my pockets to hold the stick in place when I’m sitting down.
As for the combos:
When the j.:h: doesn’t come out after an ADD, it means you’re inputting the :h: too fast. I used to have the same problem, and solved it by finding a good rhythm for the SF xx fly, ADD j.:h: SF xx unfly part. It’s important to clean up that bit, because most Morri combos use it in some form. Unfortunately…
… this combo in particular I’ve only made consistent by altering the timing of the SF xx fly, ADD. I don’t really use this combo in my game currently (more important things to clean up first), and instead opt for a TAC up / down feint into side TAC for stealing meter or just straight TAC down. If you find the opponent is too high after the :s:, you can normally delay it since SF has good hitstun, or you can do c.:h:s.:h: to normalize the height a bit. If you find the opponent is too far for the :s:, yeah, wait longer during the ADD and/or delay the ADD to get better spacing.
I would do this instead:
s.LM, f.H + Cold Star, Soul Fist H, Astral Vision, Soul Drain, fly, j.HS, s.S, sj.MMHS
The follow-up after Soul Drain is something I still need to optimize. I’ve had success with fly, s.S; fly, HS; fly, Soul Fist H, unfly, s.S, and some other stuff. But this gets you into Astral Vision and steals 2/3rds of a meter. You can end the combo with Soul Drain x Shadow Servant to steal even more meter.
Oerba, have you tried looking into THC SD shenanigans with SB assist? Might be ass, but who knows, maybe worth experimenting with?
All the good SD combos I’ve found require AV pre-activated and corner. I’m sure the longer-lasting assists should allow AV activation plus 1 or 2 double SDs at least, which would offset the AV cost and also start bullet hell…but I haven’t really looked that hard tbh.
EDIT: Welp, something like what Karsticles just posted.
Oooh, now that’s something I didn’t think of but I really should have lol. I’m gunna try using Cold Star instead of Rapid Slash and see how that works out. Also, I noticed in both of your videos at the end of the combo you do Soul Drain xx Finishing Shower. Have you tried Soul Drain xx Fly Shadowblade M Finishing Shower instead?
