You've Been Naughty: Official UMvC3 Morrigan Combo Thread

Yup.

You can get a fourth Soul Drain during the Hidden Missiles hitstring as well. Or, even better, pop Astral Vision while you wait for the missiles to come down and land a double Soul Drain to get your bar back, then scootch back and start the bullet storm.

I do Finishing Shower to go into TOD with Vergil, but you both are right that I should consider better options situationally.

I’m liking the AV option if they’ll die to one or two chips, to start incoming with bullet hell ready…but otherwise I don’t like giving my opponents second chances.

Soul Drain xx Finishing Shower allows for (land)Shadow Blade xx Finishing Shower, Shadow Blade xx Finishing Shower as an additional follow up if you need more to kill, Soul Drain xx flight, Shadow Blade M xx Finishing Shower does not. Something to keep in mind.

I get Soul Drains for free. But I use Golden Pendulum assist, so yeah…

With Ammy and Doom (midscreen and corner:D): s.:l::m:c.:h:f.:h: and Cold Star Soul Fist:h: xx AV Soul Drain xx Fly Soul Fist:l: xx Unfly Soul Drain xx Fly move forward (if you’re midscreen) j.:s: and Hidden Missiles s.:s:j.:m::h::s: Soul Drain

5-6 Soul Drains! Does around 485-500K I believe. Some things I’ve noticed:

-Works best the closer you are to the opponent when midscreen
-Works with starters like j.:s:, j.:l::m: but is tougher since it pushes them farther away when midscreen. Couldn’t really get it to work with j.:h:
-Doesn’t work with taller/bigger characters (Sentinel, Dr. Strange)
-In the corner, you gotta have Morrigan’s and her clones Soul Drain hit to make it work

I’m having difficulty finding out the timing so that the clones Soul Fist:l: will hit consistently, which is holding me back from considering this combo a viable one for matches. I had moderate success very, very slightly delaying the Soul Fist :l: or Soul Drain, but it could be with where the opponent is in the Cold Star beam but it’s hard to control where the opponent is in the beam. I’ll toss this into the setups thread too.

Man, I tried to emulate something to this degree with Cold Star, but it isn’t nearly as good because Rapid Slash pops them in the spinning knockdown:(

Yeah, that’s the biggest reason we don’t have a huge list of “reliable” Astral Vision combos, because by nature they basically aren’t something you can ust ingrai in muscle memory. Leaving push back active during the state change, and simply expecting to the clone to keep them in place was a huge oversight to me, especially seeing as in her home series AV removes pushback from all of her attacks entirely. It ends up meaning all AV combos have to be tailored to the moment, because distance, height, character weight, character hit box, and your own input timing causes the combos to vary greatly.

I was able to get the combo more consistently by doing Soul Drain as soon as I could out of AV, if I practice it more I might consider it viable. I think the combo is actually viable in the corner though.

I’m trying to find some good, non-Soul Drain combos starting with AV. You’re definitely right about AV combos being unreliable in nature, they’re so finicky. I managed to do s.:l::m:c.:h:f.:h: Soul Fist :h: xx Fly Soul Fist :l: xx Unfly Soul Fist :h: xx Fly Soul Fist :l: xx Unfly s.:s: j.:m::m::h::s: or w/e you wanna do to some degree of consistency. It does around 590-610K damage.

I’m trying to find some good, non-Soul Drain combos starting with AV. If you guys got some 90%-100% reliable, good damage AV combos please post them:)

While that is definitely true, and AV comboes are a PITA to standardise, with specific setups you can reduce the randomness to 2-3 different options which you can react to and adjust. I have a good combo that requires Vergil assist, corner, and AV pre-activated (yeah, I know), that although I haven’t been able to optimize fully, I’ve managed to make the first half consistent. 2 2/3 bars stolen so far…will post when I’m happy with it.

One interesting thing I’ve noticed with AV is that sometimes, pushblock does nothing. I think this is because you end up pushblocking the mirror image, which doesn’t affect Morri…or it could be a training mode glitch.

So all in all, I think there’s a lot to be explored yet. We should be abusing the hell out of SD, and I feel like having AV pre-activated has the most potential.

@Oerba - I gave up on non-SD combos with AV. They don’t really do enough damage without using SFs, but using SFs makes them really hard to control…right now I think the best option is to SD+reset. 1 wrong guess equals a 2+2/3 meter disparity, 2 wrong guesses equals 3 meters disparity + possibly dead character.

I’d love to be proven wrong though

AV combos was what I was working on before finals took over my life. Went down to Florida during break and then left my HDMI there, so now I have to wait a little bit before I can hit the lab again. However from what little I experimented with, I found that while you’re in AV you can pretty much treat midscreen the same way you would the corner. You can link to SFs like you can in the corner, and its easier to confirm off of Shadowblade :l: as well. What I found most consistent is to just keep cancelling into other SFs as if I was doing bullet hell. Theres a certain sequence I was using, but I can’t remember it atm. Anyways I was able to get almost 800k off of a clean confirm without using any other meter or any assists.

That sounds phat. If you find it again, do share! The most I’ve gotten is around 600k-ish by doing bullet hell patterns, and it was really fickle.

Speaking of AV combos, here’s the one I mentioned before. It’s not optimal, but it’s consistent.

Requires corner + AV active. I didn’t have somebody to help me record, but basically they will fall to either side and depending how they fall you can:

  • SD xx fly, SF (far - sometimes only one SD hits)
  • j.SD xx fly, SF M xx unfly (close - both SDs hit)

If AV ends at any point it’s really easy to continue into a regular combo, and if not, you can just go into bullet hell afterwards.

Also, yes, I’m going to be spamming low quality videos.

Holy shit these forums are ugly. Anyway, I was watching FGTV and it seems ShadyK has been doing a seemingly practical Morrigan TAC infinite. Forgive me if someone has already found this and posted this somewhere!

From a Down TAC (in the corner): Dash Forward, (so you’re against the opponent and fall together), H xx Soul Fist L, Fly xx Dash Forward Down, MH xx Soul Drain (cancel this before you actually shoot the fireball, you do Soul Drain to get height) xx Unfly MH land, jump MMH Soul Fist and repeat!

From a Side TAC (in the corner): Dash Forward (pass by the opponent), H xx Soul Fist, continue as above.

From an Up TAC: Same as Down TAC, just wait longer:O

Hopefully I got the notations right, FGTV just went offline:(

EDIT: Changed some things, because it turns out they didn’t go offline and my laptop just went stupid or somethin’.

^That’s correct. This infinite is pretty easy once you get the muscle memory down… Fly cancel glitch with M after the soul drain. You can also leave out an M during the rejump if you need to adjust the height.

I’ve been watching vids and reading the combo thread but, I am confused about Morrigan’s actual BnB. So for example, I’d like to know what are her best updated BnBs midscreen and corner, also ive been wondering if Morrigan has some sort of lv1 X-factor combos she can do when you NEED to kill a character.

thanks in advance, I just started Morrigan a while ago.

What assists are you using? Since she’s a high HSD, low damage character, more important than BnBs is being able to convert hits into combos that either TOD with a DHC / TAC or push the opponent to the other side of the screen for AV. Still, the most standard combo I’ve seen is:

[ hit confirm ] -> d.:h: f.:h: j.:m::m::h: Soul Fist :h: xx Fly, (ADD) j.:h: Soul Fist :l: xx Unfly (land), S -> [ air extension of choice ]

In the corner it’s the same deal, but you can do two reps of the air Soul Fists by adjusting the height with different Soul Fists. I personally use two :h:s, then one :h: and one :l:. Depending on the confirm you can squeeze different versions of Soul Fist loops for more damage, but these require a good feel for HSD. You can also do two reps midscreen, but honestly it’s so finicky that I don’t bother with it.

An air extension that pushes the opponent far is:

sj.:m::m::h: Soul Blade :m: xx Fly :s:

XF combos with Morrigan aren’t really useful for the same reason (high HSD low damage), it’s better to have good TACs / DHCs. There’s always XF -> Lvl3, I guess.

Here’s a playlist where I’ve been saving Morri stuff, maybe you’ll get some ideas from it: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqMKEsQ3xkuXSRSXT9hoVXAyMq6wYe1T4

Thanks man, I’ll check it now.

PD: I’m using Hidden Missiles and Cold Star

For HM, after the last SF xx unfly call Doom while falling then :s: into :m::m::h::s: (don’t rush this part), land, [ finisher ]

Finishers can be:
SD xx Shower xx DHC (corner)
SD xx Shower, SB xx Shower (corner, not optimized)
AV, jump SF H xx fly SF H xx unfly into spam (midscreen)
SD xx AV into spam (midscreen, spacing dependent)
Etc…

For Cold Star and anything else specific to that team @Oerba has some good stuff.

…I think the forum just ate up a huuuuuuge post that I just made. I listed off 7 different combos, and notes I had for them T~T Aw well, Morrigan has a relaunch combo that works midscreen and corner, midscreen can be iffy due to spacing. It’s on Youtube somwhere. I got my Cold Star combos listed on pg. 7 of this thread and in the Soul Drain setups thread as well. Lanzoma has given you a good start, good luck:)

Double post
