I probably abuse teleports more than anyone but I could easily due without them. As state multiple times in this thread it is pretty much easymode offense and an online tactic that is very frustrating to deal with as proper punishes don’t work against flowchart/predictable teleports.
It also makes some characters have the absolute shaft in this game… Chris Redfield for example.
Chris: "Ok Vergil im going to methodically keep you in front of me with all the tools I have at my dispo…
We have weekly sessions here where we do casuals, so I’m fortunate enough to play a lot opponents in a tournament setting. Teleports are easy as shit, they are so predictable, and many of them you can bait and punish if they don’t properly time their assist character. Which is also why you don’t see a lot of teleport abusing at relatively intermediate/high level play.
If you nerf the teleports because of herp derp online play, they’ll be even MORE USELESS in competitive offline play. That wouldn’t make sense. Using a broken online space which isn’t even done properly (lag galore) to balance the part of the game that is designed well (aka offline game, which has zero lag) is beyond idiotic.
Since I play with 2 big daddies (NEMESIS AND SENT) I try to keep them constantly moving and jumping and get that 1 hit that WILL KILL THEIR TELEPORT HAPPY CHARS
In a game like Marvel, teleports are often used to support the characters canon. (Before you point out characters in this game who don’t canonically possess a teleport, I do realize this is not 100% the case.) If everyone had a teleport, it’d be really bland and untrue to the franchises. I do think they should be more easily punished or thrown however.
I teleport all day. I play Vergil, it’s either teleport or eat a full punish unless I am in DT. I also teleport with Dormammu but that’s mostly to run away =P
But yeah, it’s pretty easy to predict a lot of teleports online if you know what you are looking for. Just a few examples…
Dante: Is he humping the ground like a madman? The guy is about to teleport so air throw him . Vergil: Do you see Doom/Magneto/Iron Man come out or hear Vergil yell “Come on!” at any time? He’s about to teleport, most likely behind you so super jump or mash heavy if you are Taskmaster in the opposite direction then shoot him. Dormammu: Is he throwing a pillar? Is he tri-jumping at you? Is he charging up spells while flying in the air? If no, he’s about to teleport (likely the heavy version) so jump up and air throw him. Wesker: Did he just shoot the gun? Yeah, he’s teleporting. Did he just call an assist? Yup, teleporting. Is he doing ANYTHING? TELEPORT! Luckily online everyone can only teleport with the heavy version so block high according to avoid the jump S that is now coming down on top of your head. DO I FRIGHTEN YO-DO I FRIGHTE-DO I FRIGHTEN YOU!?
I played Lei Lei in vanilla and hated that every time I punished a teleporter with an air throw correctly I got shit all for it. Now in Ultimate I’m usually playing a character who can follow up an air throw with actual damage, but I run into tech tech tech instead… Yeah…
I have no problems with having multiple characters with the ability to teleport in the game. However online input delay coupled with a lack of decent ways to punish them when you see them coming are pretty retarded.
Teleporters eat PSIONIC BLASTER, PSIONIC BLASTER, PSIONIC BLASTER (It hits over Modoks head). Or my favorite auto correct HOLD THAT POSE! CRY FOR ME! I admit though a well timed assist with a teleport can be a hassle. Just roll up the drones hitting from the back and get you some cubes. Problem solved.
Played allot of herp derp Wesker in the past, dunno why nobody complains about Dorm’s teleports, they’re pretty good. Espicially now with that crazy Dark Matter + Behind teleport. But I play Strider now, and with that low health I think he needs all the tools he can get. Don’t really care much for Dante or Vergil teleports they’re kind of predictable. Wesker teleports though? Well you know, if you don’t punish you’re screwed.
Glad some people are addressing the whining in here. Rather deal with teleporters because their predictable (Where their ports go), people with 8 ways have better options IMO. Neither one is broke though, besides IT’S MARVEL. If you don’t like it go back to slow-as-hell SFIV.
To me it depends on the player and the character. If you have a noob with dante he only has one teleport so it is easily predictable. Others like vergil, strange, and wesker can be hard to deal with in the right hands, but most people i meet online either go only for the teleport behind or above.
in a real match, teleports are fine. Online, it just sucks that you have to block 5 or 6 milliseconds before you normally would, aka, before your opponent even activates the teleport. people base their whole game around it never knowing how bad they are.
