Although bison’s still hard for me, blanka ball counters are incredibly easy. HK Senkyuutai right after blocking.
Been working on yang exclusively after a 2 day run w/ oni. I’m taking summer classes so I can’t dedicate too much time to the game, but I had a hard time against gief, honda, and dictator. Boxer is pretty easy. He was my main in Super & the players I’ve run into weren’t that good. But overall I feel like that matchup is in Yang’s favor.
Against Gief, I’m pretty sure it’s just my lack of experience w/ the new SPD range. Also since I’m still new and experimenting w/ combos I dropped a few links and got SPD’d (same thing against THawk, but that wasn’t as bad bc THawk’s way in is easy to spot, whereas green hand is pretty quick and easy for good Gief’s to trap if they know you’re going to jump after a green hand.) But I also had a difficult time stopping his forward movement with pokes. I didn’t want to get in too aggressively so I wiffed some short divekicks to feint and close the gap.
Honda, I couldn’t figure out how to punish anything. After blocking HB he seemed to recover too fast for me to land any version of Yang’s DP. And too far out of range for any of the slashes to make any contact. Also travels too fast to palm. I guess short DP on react might work, but I was playing on PSN and I don’t try stuff like that too often online.
Does cr fierce beat butt splash? What do you guys think the best option is for spammed butt splash? I just blocked and punished but I’m not sure if I picked the best option. His command grab comes out pretty quickly too, so it’s hard to predict when to neutral jump punish it. Honda just seems like a lot of work for Yang, having to work around HB that seems like it can’t be punished consistently, and then a pretty far reaching st roundhouse that hits low, AND a quick command throw. Playing defensively seems like a bad idea, and playing rushdown doesn’t feel much better. jab HB and EX HB seem like they can pretty much eat up any dive kick. And autocorrecting w/ HB is easy enough with Honda to do if I try to crossup w/ forward.
Dictator, I only played 2 so far, but one was very good and I ran into similar problems as some of you guys. Cr short to short scissor was good for getting in and Dictator’s st forward/roundhouse were pretty effective against me. I tried counterpoking w/ st forward and st strong, but that didn’t gain me a whole lot of ground. Building meter w/ palm at full screen was met w/ head stomps which I had a hard time countering. I tried blocking and DPing the second hit after headstomp but that lost, and I tried throwing U1 for anti-air after the 2nd hit of headstomp & demon reversal. It was probably my execution bc U1 flash didn’t even happen. I don’t see why that wouldn’t work if I didn’t botch the timing. Because I AA w/ U1 pretty consistently.
I never play U2. I don’t like it. For fireball punish I’d rather get around it w/ regular or EX DP, and work on a U1 setup after I close the gap and get the knockdown. U1 does more damage, and the setups I can’t hit U1 w/ that I can get w/ U2 do so little damage because it’s the short version, that it’s not worth giving up the guaranteed full damage of U1.
cr short/forward rekkax2 FADC U1 is really easy, and can be hit confirmed. Also cl st forward dash U1 is pretty easy too. (and that’s coming from someone that played charge characters almost exclusively since vanilla).
Anyway, looking forward to seeing you guys’ insights.
Okay guys from what I can gather the only helpful thing I have to say about a MU is bison and it’s only 2 things but they could change the MU.
Bison cannot escape yang when bison is on the ground not even EX crusher would save him.Bison is tough to fight against but if you know how to stop his ex crusher he’s done.
Try this in training room if you can set it up correctly. After knocking bison down have him do EX crusher to get out of the corner or mid screen, if you go for a cross up J.Mk and he EX crushers out of mainly the corner, from there you can mash standing LP and knock him out of his move then go for another pressure cross up or dive kick before he can react therefore him wasting a meter.
I personally think bison vs yang is 6-4 yang. When yang figures out which moves will work effectively on bison. If you don’t go for a cross up but predict his Crusher for sure just back up a little bit after he gets up and block the EX crusher then after you can punish him with EX mantis slash.
So yeah, that’s it for now against bison and oh yea forgot about this.
I know nobody would make themselves this predictable but it’s good to know.
Zangiefs weird walking grab where he raises his arms up can beat your Medium and Heavy rolls kicks before they reach gief. The only version he doesn’t beat like that is LK, and EX version of roll kick.
vs. Honda: EX slashes punishes mp and hp headbutts. U2 does not punish any headbutt. lk DP buttsplashes.
I haven’t had time to look at really advanced stuff since I only got AE like 2 days so I haven’t been able to really look at Rufus option selects but like Abel if you sweep on Rufus’ wake up ex messiah will sail right over you for a free punish.
Anyone have any tips for the Makoto match up? I’m completely free against her right now…
Yang can punish all HeadButts with Slashes, but you must be standing while blocking and sometimes has to be done reversal or non-reversal.
-Fierce Headbutt /MP Headbutt
[]FP Slash- This has to be done non-reversal and only the first slash with connect, the rest will whiff. (40 damage)
If you’re not satisfied with the damage you can FADC the single slash and combo the following :
FP Slash(1) ~ FADC ~ Cl.MP~ Cr.MK xX FP Slash (244 damage)
FP Slash(1) ~ FADC ~ Ultra 2 (340-392 damage)*
[]EX- Slash- Can be done reversal or non-reversal timed, all hits will connect. (165 damage)
-LP Headbutt
[]Ex- Slash- Has to be done non-reversal, and the second slash out of the five slashes has to be done slower for it to hit. (165 damage)
-Ex Headbutt is pretty inconsistent. I was able to land a full Ex-Slash on non- reversal and on reversal time like 1/20 attempts. Sometimes the first hit of the Slash whiffs too. Its not worth trying to punish unless Honda’s back is touching the wall and you’re next to him. Btw you can punish every headbutt in that kind of situation with Cr.MK ~ Slashes.
-For Buttdrops, punish them with: Lv2 Focus Attacks, Cl.MK, Ultra1, DP, and [command grab (If it whiffs in front of your face) Honda is a character that can get hit by Cl.MP xX Cr.MK ~ Slashes, after a command throw.]
I like to use Ultra 2 in this match up because it can punish almost everything Honda can do. (Backdashes, Jump-ins, combos from slashes, Buttdrops, Jump backs, and most importantly… NJ. FP)
What B&B should i use vs chun, i have a real issue with st.jab wiffing on crouch.
cr.lk, cr.lk xx rekkas or cr.lk, cr.lk xx mk roll or cr.lk, cr.lk, cr.lk xx rekkas. Note that cr.lk, cr.lk, cr.lk xx mk roll does not connect.
anyone have any advice on the akuma match up? i heard yang wins this but it seems to feel even to me. but i’m pretty sure this is because i lack match up knowledge.
It feels even because it is even. A lot of Akuma players suggest it’s 6-4 in Yang’s favor, but I strongly feel that it’s even.
i feel the same way. i was just thinking that maybe i was missing some key elements because people do love to exaggerate when it comes to the twins. so i was just looking for input from other yang users.
After a reset or a knockdown, she can’t anti-air (fukiage) a divekick unless it’s placed too high. You’ll stuff it. If you block a hayate, punish with lk or cr.lk to slashes. Yang’s EX tenshin has throw invincibility, so it beats all versions of karakusa.
I feel like Yang beats Akuma.
Thanks!
I was wondering is there any reason to use this combo over cr.lp, cr.lp, cr.mk xx rekkas/mk.roll bar it hitting low?
The cr.lp, cr.mk link is a 1 frame link. Fuck that.
I use cr.lk, s.lp, cr.mk most of the time. Starts low, hits most characters. I also use cr.lp, cl.mp, cr.mk (two 1f links, but I’m using it as a frame trap) a lot. There’s no reason for cr.lp, cr.lp, cr.mk. The reason you’d do cr.lk, cr.lk, cr.lk is only to hit those characters that s.lp would whiff (like crouching Blanka, Chun, etc).
vs Sakura one of the key things when getting in is trying to bait cr.fierce by using short dive kicks then punishing the wiff. Bare in mind though the hitbox is huge so you have to land at like cr.forward range. Also her quickest dp is 6 frames and only the ex version has invulnerability frames so when you get the knockdown you can rush down with little worry. Lastly her forward.tatsu is the only one that is negative on block (-3 punish with st.lk xx rekka) so don’t focus as her armour break is basically risk free.
Any advice vs vega? Not sure how to handle his dives/throw with yang especially…
^learning how to OS seems like it would help in this match, on wakeup OS to a roll kick. also when hes airborn jump back HP works well. also if you know hes gunna jump or try to hit the wall, beat it with a air HK
I play vega and the best thing you can do is DK all day due to his lack of his jab being 4 frame startup so he can’t jab you out as quick as other character. Also he has anti airs but they are not as solid at all. You can stuff his flip kick easily even the ex one and probably cr.hp or ST.hk are his best anti airs. You also don’t want to get into a footsies moment with him. He can out poke you with just cr.mp since it’s a godlike normal for him but that’s whats hes built around…normals. If Vega starts waldiving jus jump HK ,it should beat his wall dive attempts (works for me all the time).
