This is where all posts for match up specific strategies and theory fighting should go. Every match up in this thread will consist of general theory, the second part will consist of punishes/counters to moves and the third part will be video of the match up so that players can see how it generally plays out.
For now I will mostly be adding videos to each match section as the game is not yet out on consoles. If you have any ideas for improvements or any ideas for match ups feel free to post.
Cool thread! Any updates on this?
So far the characters I’m having trouble with are Sagat and M.Bison. Can anyone offer some tips on what I should be looking for in those matches?
Well this dude lives in DC… and I know for a fact there’s no AE cab anywhere close. This seems like one of the cases where a dude had an idea for a thread name, so he wanted to put it up, even though he has nothing to add, himself
Anyway… I’ve got nothing. I haven’t gotten extensive time with Yang yet. I’ll start posting here after console release.
Speaking of… to the OP… if you live in DC, you should come out to local stuff. I help run the tournaments in Baltimore… always looking for more interested players.
The thread name is for yangs second impact win quote against himself. I thought it was a good name but if you have a better one just let me know. I have been out to xanadu many times as you may know me and my twin brother who normally go with ketchy kech. I have been searching for a real main for a long time now and decided I am going to play yang after playing him at university pinball. Like you said there is no arcade here yet so it is really hard for me to write anything about any of the match ups yet. I plan to update this thread as much as I can once console hits and more information is available.
You should be able to jump in OS ex dash, similar to Abel.
OS Results
[details=Spoiler]Block- Yang creates contact, can continue pressure
EX Psycho Crusher- Yang teleports through harmlessly, Bison escapes.
EX Scissor Kick- Yang teleports through harmlessly, Bison escapes.
EX Headstomp- Yang teleports through harmlessly, can punish on landing
EX Devil’s Reverse- Yang teleports through harmlessly, Bison escapes
Teleport Back- Yang teleports into Bison, can punish
Super- Yang can block, punish
Ultra 1- Yang can block, punish
Ultra 2- Yang can just jump out, punish
Backdash- Bison can punish the teleport, but Bison pretty much has to know it’s coming. If he reads the OS, and starts doing this, you’ll have to switch up.
Bulk taken from HAV’s Abel Match-Up thread[/details]
Nah… thread name is fine. Just gotta get some info in here. Good luck with the thread. These things are hard.
As for the Bison OS… I wouldn’t blow meter for such little pay off. Even the Abel OS is only kinda worth it. Regular safe jump nets almost the same opportunities. You can’t punish teleport automatically, but you can punish EX Scissors, and EX Psycho easier. One of the bigger bonuses of the Abel OS is that it makes it clear to Bison that he should just block. I wouldn’t blow a bar for that.
Until we get frame data (which I’m not sure if anyone has), I’m not sure what frames Yang’s dash is invincible to hit. If it’s similar to Abel’s roll, I don’t see why you wouldn’t jump in os short dash. It’s just that we know Yang’s ex dash is invincible a lot quicker than the regular one.
But, yeah, Yang doesn’t have a TT to be afraid of. =p
I’ll look for the vid but I saw a Japanese Yang use an OS with U2 that worked well against Dictator. I would imagine it catches both backdash and teleport on his wakeup, but I can’t confirm that.
Yang might be able to do a version of the Ryu OS, by doing safe jump -> OS Short Up Kick also, against Bison. I don’t know how invincible his Up Kick is though.
Actually, safe jump OS EX Up Kick is probably better. It tracks, and goes up as soon as it gets to the opponent, so, and I’m just guessing here, it would either beat EX Psycho/EX Scissors, or the two moves would pass through each other, likely netting in no punishment for either. It would most likely beat EX Devil Reverse, and maybe EX Headstomp, though it could lose to that also, or maybe both whiff (that one could go any way… IDK), Back Teleport would get tracked and beaten free, as would backdash. Front teleport may get Bison a punish… but nobody really does that…
I saw that Ikarioyaji used OS hk up kick to catch ex psycho. As far as the others I don’t know about. The way he did it, was from a cross up mk on wake up. This same OS also catches Abel’s EX roll.
Another note: cr. lk OS U2 catches backdashes. The reference I saw this from was Acqua vs. Shiro.
Yeah, I saw the OS to catch EX Psycho, but that one was following a PC that went the wrong way. I’m curious as to how the two moves would interact if the PC was flying into Yang, instead of away.
Aora posted some frame data for yang in the general discussion thread. It only says how many frames each dash is and has no information on invincibility frames tho. I hope that information become available soon. Yangs command grab can be just as scary if not more so than abels as you can land a full ultra off of it without using any meter.
