"Your fighting is predictable..." Yang Match-up Thread

Fei’s rekkas aren’t like Yang’s. Yang’s are more like a combo tool, whereas Fei’s go half way across the screen and are safe on block when the tip hits. I am exaggerating when I say, “braindead,” but it’s pretty damn simple to judge distance and decide on lp, mp, or hp. If you’re at half screen, Fei can throw out either a CW or a rekka at any random time and score free damage, a knockdown, and shove you in the corner.

Well, shit as simple as Fei’s c.lp xx lp rekkas takes over 20% of Yang’s HP. A random chicken wing into s.hp takes over a third of Yang’s HP (and has Yang over half way to being stunned). I’m not exaggerating too much on the damage, but I might not be giving Yang credit for his damage.

Yang can play poking wars, but it just matters how you want to play him. Though, something I didn’t consider is:

You’re probably right about this, assuming we can punish if he just hits with the tip of rekka.

I don’t know. I probably just have a personal vendetta against Fei. @_@

Some things to remember about the Fei matchup that may or may not apply.

Fei can keep people out as good as he can get in. He has better normals than Yang in the long run. Assuming that there is a footsie battle, Fei’s normals quickly trump Yang’s by speed and slightly by range.

Being able to reaction punish a random chicken wing with lk roll kick/either Ultra is a plus. You could probably st. mk/st. hp it too, but it needs testing to be sure.

Can’t Fei do cr. mk xx rekkas now? Or is that just a myth?

Also all of Fei’s major punishes do at least 260-a little under 450 damage. Last I checked, that’s good life. That hurts on a high offensive character like Yang with little life to begin with.

It’s really too early to give matchup opinions really though until more people get the game since most people may not have fought a good Fei for example before. I’m just giving general keys that I look for

Myth. Many Fei players wanted it, but it never came to be.

Edit: Another thing about Fei is when he has 2 meters the match becomes scary. He can make his DPs safe on block or chickenwing after them on hit for huge damage with no scaling. So eating a DP can cost Yang about 25% of his life. : /

if fei cancels a rekka from a normal, no matter if he did one jab or 3-4 , you can punish with s.short xx slashes. If he spaces it -correctly- and does a naked rekka, then it becomes impossible to punish [jab].

too deep, you get s.short. spaced, you get nothing.

Yang can make LK roll kick safe as well through FADC, Mantis is already safe and becomes even more safer with FADC. Yang has far more scarier FADC shennanigans than Fei can possibly hope for.

I’m gonna get some practice in training mode seeing what are some good character specific punishes. There is a lot of general talk but the sections for each character are still blank. So if Yang beats Viper easily then what are some punishes that make the matchup so easy?

You can roll kick through seismo pressure. If shit hits the fan, you can always just FADC your roll kick.

They are still blank because the game came out yesterday. As there is more discussion about match ups I will update them.

HAV, I believe, came up with a nice anti-Viper OS,

Good because Viper’s the only character I’ve played against I haven’t beaten with Yang…though honestly, I might just switch to Rose for the Matchup.

It loses to EX Seimso, but shit’s good enough. Better than anything I got

Again, good because I just tried switching to Rose…unfortunately I’ve been playing Yang so much today, I kept trying to Dive Kick with her…ugh.

Lol. I understand that pain.

On Viper, once you get meter, roll kick her seismos. If she feint it, just FADC that shit.

Yang can do cr.lk, cl.mp, cr.mk as a pretty damn hot frame-trap on Viper.

The Balrog Matchup seems painfully easy once you get a lead. Palm beats EVERYTHING Balrog can use to get in including every single one of his rush punches. Any jump in attempts are met with an appropriate anti-air.

The only problem is, once he gets in, you might be in slight trouble…

Once he gets in, you basically wait 'til you have meter and EX dash. You can lame shit just as well as Balrog.

But, for god’s sake, don’t press that HP button. Far HP? -4 on block. Close HP? -5 on block. Don’t use that shit to poke.

Why would I? Again, DAT PALM.

I wasn’t referring to you specifically.

Though, I’ve had palm beat EX lunge a few times. I got a laugh or two out of that.

I have too. My best moment with Yang so far? Hitting Yun with U1 at the TIP of his Dive Kick. It was perfect.

Regarding that Viper OS, OSing his light DP is better, as it will also beat EX Seismo (although it will lose to backdash).

If you want to OS normals, standing HP is better because it does everything that one does plus backdashes (which is not show in the video) and depending on timing can trade with EX Seismo.

So far, my only match-up issues have been Vega, Chun, and Dictator. Granted, I haven’t gotten to play many good players, but those three. Ugh.

Fei isn’t as bad as I thought (s.lk xx rekkas works well enough). But, we’ll see how yang’s match-ups fair once the dust settles.

EDIT: I assume the reason standing HP wasn’t used in that OS was because it leaves Yang at bad frame disadvantage on block.

Did they give Viper a 3-frame move in AE? Or does she still have a 4 frame short?
