Oh my goodness I can’t get around to beating Dudley. X(
I’ve started playing online (against humans, to be specific) about 3 weeks now (but have been watching streams and theory fighting for over 2 years) and after reading about how easy Dudley is for all you guys to beat, I’m starting to wonder what is it that makes him so easy for you guys. Getting in on him is a bloody nightmare and once he knocks me down, meaty overheads become a problem…
play more patiently. his range is really poor so he will have to commit to something if he wants to try to attack from neutral. dudley F+HP and duck straight are really easy to whiff punish with cr.mk into rekkas. he cant focus attack you either because of rekkas. so his ground options are poor in this match. just dont let him jump
good dudley players will try to counter poke you with his cr.mk sweep, but its not a reliable option for him
i guarantee you just arent being patient enough and running into his fierce. try to play a reactionary game at neutral
Spacing is crucial in the dudley match up to whiff punish as Mike pointed out. The correct spacing is outside his F+hp range but this will also mean that none of your normals are a threat to dudley. Usually in these positions, the opponent will not be crouching and instead be walking back and forth.
You can take advantage of this situation by dashing in (to about max c.mk range) and using c.mk xx lp rekka to pressure and confirming from there to score the knockdown.
The Guile match-up is giving me some trouble. Should I try to divekick him when he sonic booms or should I be trying to focus the booms and get in his face that way?
U2 so freaking useless against Guile’s bloody 9 frame SB recovery. D:
Predicting a SB and punishing in advance, if you will, is a risk not worth taking most of the times when I’m down to the point where I even need to use my ultra that desperately.
Chun-Li’s sweep is the most annoying fudging normal in v2012. Ultra f.st.MP deals with this problem? Or is st.LK a viable option?
Vega… NO. Too big of a pain… Scrubby Vegas are easy to manage as focus punishing their unwisely abusive use of the wall jump>slash move (too lazy to look up its name) works like a treat. Smart Vegas, however, create an unbreakable barrier with cr.LP. Dem jabs… Fishing with cr.MK and yolo jump-ins seems to be the best solution. Haven’t tried st.LK yet but I think it’d be futile from the max range that good Vegas tend to sit at.
Balrog is impossible to beat unless I land counter hit cr.MK.
Scissorkick-happy Bison’s can sometimes be dealt with well-timed and spaced rekka footsies.
Can’t fight Ryu for shit. cr.MK stuffs and out-pokes my shit. Not even going to bother to jump-in on him. My struggle in this matchup simply portrays my lack of experience… Though I still wouldn’t mind some tips.
Gief matches are boring and frustrating. Boring cause I space him with palms 24/7. Frustrating because I still end up losing 80% of the time.
Wild Ken’s are annoying. Easy to beat though; just bait them yolo dps.
T. Hawk can choke on a bag of d*cks.
God Yang is bad in 2012. Any of these matchups any easier for you guys in Ultra as compared to v2012?
Ghost, rewatch your matches and pause at the first time you get hit in a match. Figure out why you got hit. Go into training mode and figure out a way around it.
Most of the times it’s the opponent nailing a counter-hit as we somehow manage to go for pokes at the same time and I get beaten out. Of course, watching replays is very important. Thanks for the advice.
I have less than a month of experience in playing against human opponents. It’s easier said than done to do the absolute proper move at the perfect time. As a newcomer, I tend to choke up. I’ve been studying Yang and the game, however, for over 2-3 years now. Saying that I “don’t have a concept of spacing/timing or how Yang really works” is an improper way of going at it. But, of course, what would a noob like me know, right? I’m completely pathetic since I find my premature experience in real matches to result in me not being able to quickly react to a situation in accordance to popularly preferred methods.
Sorry for the, over-reaction, if you will. But I find it insulting to practically be called a blank paper.
I think with my gameplan, it puts the match-up in Yangs favor. The opponent has to be a good Guile to beat you if you stick to the plan, because if he doesn’t want to get cornered, he has to move forward, giving up all forms of charge, so their footsies have to be good. At higher levels, I think the match is even.
so me noticing you are complaining about certain normals or specials that Yang deals with sufficiently or quite well and saying that you clearly dont have a concept of how he works or spacing is insulting? Youve said it yourself, youve been playing people for less than a month and you choke. You dont have the experience with the character or game to sufficiently deal with certain things yet. “Scissor happy bisons” are not good bisons nor are they a real big problem for Yang. Lame ones who understand st.mk beats everuthing are. If you are beating gief with just palms you need to play better giefs. I could go on but it seems you get insulted easily.
Yes, I’m a noob. Do I have much of an understanding of how to deal with certain situations? Definitely not. You’re correct on that point… but saying that I have absolutely no clue sort of ticked me off as I put time into studying matchups. I’m sorry for any confusion. I wasn’t intending to start an argument.
What would work against scissor-kick abusers? And if put in the context of spacing, should I keep Gief at the max range where I can comfortably keep using f.st.HP or st.HK to poke at him while keeping him away? Or should I go balls in from the start (which doesn’t seem to work out most of the time when irregular patterns of offense start to get read).
The only safe scissor kicks for Bison are the light scissor kicks, which have the shortest distance. medium and heavy are unsafe and should be punished with crouching light kicks. Do this and force them to rely only on the light kicks (which any Bison should be doing anyway), and Neutral jump when you anticipate it. Bison will fly right under you for an easy j.MK or j.HP. You can also mess up their spacing and try to focus the second hit, or red focus through if you’re willing to spend the meter. Both of these are highly risky though and shouldn’t be relied on against a good Bison. I find it works for me against the everyday users though.
