"Your fighting is predictable..." Yang Match-up Thread

After forward throw you have access to two safe jumps. You can whiff cr. strong and jump hp or walk forward like a step and jump hp. One is 5 and the other is 4. Ex Pinwheel comes out in 7 so that’s enough time to def get the safe jump.

Can anyone shed some light on the viper match up

so fuerte. ive never learned this match with any character

any secret tech out there? things to look for when defending?

i had a chance to win a small fuck around tourney but i had to fight fuerte in LF and i sand bagged cuz i didnt feel like fighting him

Characters Specific:
Splashes are punishable by Slashes(I forget about his safer backrun splash though)
The chest bump is punishable by Ultra 2 and slashes.
I think his wall jump attacks will whiff if you’re fullscreen and just walk backwards, and then you can whiff punish.
Neutral Jump HK will intercept a cornered Fuerte trying to wall jump out, as long as you react before he gets near the peak of his jump.
He’s really weak to throws on wake-up currently, beats his armor and is safe against his EX DP, you can even apply more grounded pressure if his EX DP makes your throw whiff, might be punishable too but I forget the frame data.
HP Palm makes a good combination with the throw since it breaks armour and is safe against the same things while covering his backdash, especially when you get that counterhit palm in the corner and combo into far fierce.
His Ultras and Super cover the two previous options, and they’re typically not afraid to guess on wake-up, that’s why they’re Fuerte players after all.

I experimented with Cl. MK > react to armor > forward jump into early HP, beats Fuerte’s wake-up run splash/tortilla shenanigans but I never tested it against an actual person.

Universal:
Some cross-up setups can be gotten out of by dashing forward(typically the DP safe set-ups) and then you can punish him with whatever normals you want before he recovers.
DP characters can OS a DP(Ryu LP DP is so good for this) when they’re jumping in on Fuerte to keep him from using the his tortilla invincibility as a pseudo AA.

This is starting to piss me off…how do you guys work around rekkas whiffing mid combo vs the likes of sakura/cody/akuma? Seriously the amount of matches I’ve lost because of that stupidity is REALLY bothering me.

I have also seen sometimes that the first hit of the rekka connects and the second hit whiffs against Gouki,Is that a hitbox/hurtbox issue??

Yes, it’s related to these characters reel animations and the fact that hitboxes aren’t arbitrarily positioned but rather determined by the animation.

Shit is mad annoying. I think I’ll put up a video and maybe try to get a hitbox buff on the 2nd rekka for ultra? Maybe they can reduce the pushback on hit, I dunno.

not a complete work around, but use fierce for the first rekka. on hit another fierce, on block delay into lp

its more successful like this, but it still has the possibility to miss if for example you whiff punished sakuras low forward with yours

another solution is to use standing lk as your button instead of low forward. st.lk moves you forward a good amount when being cancelled into a special for whatever reason

s.mp cancel should also partially cover this. Problem with s.lk is that it’s not a hit confirm anymore (in combos I mean) and doesn’t really make up for cr.mk.

I’m ok with it whiffing in punish cases like ryu’s sweep where depending on distance only the first hit will connect, because you can sort of identify it won’t hit and stop. Also in footsies vs sakura and akuma I don’t even bother cancelling into 2nd rekka. But I swear today this shit happened in the most random circumstances, after cr.lk x3 bnbs, cr.lp, cr.mk, etc.

cl.mp is another fun thing. Sometimes it can push you farther than cr.mk range lol. VS gouken theres a button that if it gets counterhit (I’m guessing it’s cr.hk) you’re sent like 2/5 of the screen away, not even sweep reaches.

I don’t think this happens with Fei, maybe the problem is mostly on Yang’s hitbox/pushback properties.

it occasionally happens with fei, but its definately much more rare, and its on different characters from what i can remember. like i remember crouching honda reels out of feis rekkas every so often. but not something youd have to try and actually account for

i talked to peter (combofiend) about it around 6-7 months ago for a long while. He said he would test it and solve it if possible

ill only combo into dp or ex rekka and ill only do normal rekka when i have 2 bars to fadc if this shit happens. its not worth the risk of getting hit because the game is dumb.

Yup and its shitty that we have to do it, but id rather burn the bar than eat a random st.fp into whatever from sak because the game decided i wasnt allowed to combo lol

I cant imagine how bad yangs Rekkas were in AE when they werent True Blockstrings
