I try to pick ultras according to how I expect my opponent to play or if either ultra allows for specific punishes. like if im playing online, i expect almost every character with a dp to either fish for fadc ultra or go for chip kills with their dps. if i read those with an ex teleport, i can punish with U2
i dunno if there are common choices compiled somewhere or whatever, but
Abel-1
Shotos-2
Blanka-2 Blanka balls
Cammy-2 easier punish on blocked or whiffed Dps. this is a pesonal choice for me. 1 is prolly more practical
Cody-1 blocked ex criminal uppers, OS vs ex zonk
Deejay-1 blocked ex MGU and blocked ex sobat
Dudley-1 blocked ex MGB
El Fuerte-1
Fei-2 whiffed ex CWs
Gouken-2
Guy-1
Ibuki-1
Mak-1
Rose-2
Sak-1
Hawk-2 blocked dives
Twins-1
Gief-2 if you up back on his wake up or after a reset and he does PPP lariat or spd you can U2 when you land. if he did ex hand you can hit him with fierce on the way down and still do ultra 2. makes him respect your offense a little more. U1 works as a universal AA on his jumps, but i like the utility of U2 in this match
Adon-1
Rog-1
Viper-1
Chun-2
Dan-1
Sim-2
Honda-2 you can bait ex headbutt and butt splashes on wake up and after resets with a neutral jump. U2 lets you still punish ex headbutt if he whiffs and goes across the screen. also sometimes ive had honda players try to bait me to dp if im 3/4 screen away with lp headbutt. again U2 punishes the whiff
Gen-1
Guile-1
Hakan-2 punish oil ups from neutral
Juri-1
Bison-2 allows a difficult punish on the devil reverse follow up. or if you predict a teleport. poorly spaced ex psycho that passes thru you
I only use u2 against a few characters now. Vega, Honda… that’s about it. I don’t really use it against fireball characters anymore since the threat of u2 only goes so far. Plus the ultra itself is not that fast and if you’re even a little off you’re screwed.
I use it to whiff punish far reaching buttons, and to randomly catch my opponent for moving forward/throwing fireballs too closely. I find it extremely useful against Cody in particular.
I play two really good Burrogs all the time. WA PSYCHO and the other one doesn’t really online that much. I can bop both of them. Do you use the anti reversal thingy off stand forward resets? After showing it to them a few times, they never do anything in reaction to it since they know they’re gonna eat U2 for it.
Honda/T Hawk/Gief/Bison are my worst. I can’t beat them. Good players, bad players, it doesn’t matter.
Idk if this is known about (probably is) but I was watching Kyoku’s latest replay and he does fwd.throw > whiff far.mk > j.mk which is a safejump vs sagat and cammy, looks pretty effective especially if you throw them into the corner.
This maybe not what you were referring to, but when I read your post, I immediately thought of this video I watched.
As a relatively new Yang player, Balrog is killing me all the time as well. Watching these Kyoku resets made a light bulb go off. You’ll see at the 25sec mark when Kyoku lands the FADC MK Jumping HP reset,
that the Balrog player loses charge for the EX dash but goes for the EX headbut when they both land…and still doesn’t hit Kyoku’s jab and the reversal misses. At least that’s what it looks like to me.
This is all depends if they quick-rise I guess.
really? bison? i think thats my most comfortable match. what gives you problems about him?
im getting much better vs gief and hawk. but i think thats because they dont actually know the match and try to xbox-live me to death. still kinda lost on honda tho
