"Your fighting is predictable..." Yang Match-up Thread

Thanks fo the tips

I will now put all this into practice in order to do well in tournaments here in Brazil!

Hello My Forum Friends !

someone know how play Dictator Match up ? st.hk and st. mk is killing me devil reverse too >.<

You can try using LP Mantis after you’ve blocked his st.MK or st.HK.

I feel you can try doing some crossup divekick to reset his charge so that he can’t use EX Psycho Crusher to anti-air you.

Get a knockdown on bison through a forward throw or a sweep, and then do the “Yang Vortex” on him(ambiguous crossup j.mk, cl.mk, jump cancel, j.hp, cr.mk, lp.rekka, cr.lk, cr.lk, etc… as an example). Do this as early in the match as possible as later on it gets tougher to land because of ex.crusher

Yang can OS skull crusher and safe jump it as well (at least I have been able to). If you can’t get a safe jump in before he wakes up, cr. jab OS U1 will work. Plus if he does block it, you get an ex Rekka which you can keep going and go for a throw. I still think Bipson wins the match up though. Knocking him down is the key and that can be difficult against a Bison who isn’t overextending himself. Dive kick pressure works wonders against all that cr. teching though.

I’m having a lot of trouble with the Balrog match up. Any advice?

I have trouble with Gief. An advice that someone could give a Yang player?

Pick ultra 1 for it’s damage and use as an anti-air. Try to keep a distance and if you have chance to push him back do it. St. Mk is a good anti-air from far distances, lk rollkicks when he’s closer. You can use palms to try and hit his long range pokes. On the ground use st. HK a lot since it beats most of his pokes and try to change it up a bit by doing st. HP, cr. HP, st. MP and cr. HK. They all have good range and decent priority. Mix them up so he won’t get comfortable at any distance. If you just keep doing st. HK he’ll figure out when and what distance and start jumping over it so keep it varied.

Your goal is to stay out of his st. MP range (the slice punch) since that’s when he’s going to start dominating you. If you see a cr. mk from him whiff punish with cr. mk rekkas to push him back. Try to bait him to do green hands to get closer and punish either by blocking and punishing or neutral jumping and doing neutral jump hard punch cr. mk rekkas to push him away. Also if he’s whiffing his st. HK then immediately punish with cr. mk rekkas.

If he gets you to the corner which most likely he will try to find an opportunity to escape with an ex teleport. Jump back hp is also your friend but don’t get predictable with it. Just try to get some space between him and you.

If he knocks you down it’s a guessing game but try to see if his set-ups are meaty or not. If they aren’t ex teleport should be able to get you out. Don’t try to dp his cross-ups. Do it after you’ve blocked the cross-up. It’s as much a guessing game for him as it is for you so neutral jumping during his strings is an option though it is risky but if he whiffs an SPD then you can punish by neutral jump hard punch to anything.

It’s Yang’s worst match-up easily and even if you’ll succeed with all this he still has a lot of health and you don’t do too much damage, so the odds are definitely stacked against you. Make every hit count.

I think it’s the one match-up that’ll teach you most about what Yang can do in the neutral game and though it’s lopsided don’t give up and don’t freeze. It’s still winnable if you’re calm and make the correct reads.

Wow thanks! Yeah, grapplers in general are my biggest weakness. Gief, Hugo, Alex, King, T. hawk (yeah, T. hawk), etc. Pretty much in evety fighting game, I have trouble with grapplers. But one more question, what if Gief goes Green hand into Atomic Buster (I think)? I can’t block, so should I backdash?

Backdash, jump back, dp, you have to pretty much guess or better pick Sagat.

Green hand is unsafe on block so you have to punish it and even on whiff it’s punishable. You just have to have quick reactions. That’s why I prefer neutral jumping if I’m thinking he’s gonna green hand since it gives you time and you can punish big. If he’s whiffing it close to you just do cr. lk rekkas if you feel like punishing with cr. mk rekkas is too slow.

If you block I’d recommend either EX Rekkas since it punishes even the light version and definitely gives you space, or the regular version if you block an EX green hand. You could also try the st. mp target combo. Great pushback and should be in range for the punish and it’s 5 frames so you have plenty of time to do it. I used to try to punish it with lk rollkicks but found that often Gief was too far for the punish and got killed for it.

I try to neutral jump or sweep more against Gief as his st.HK whiff against a crouching Yang. But I tend to have slow reactions so everytime after green hand I’ll just spam throw

be lame…build meter, space properly and dont over extend yourself…this is a match of patience

I feel like Guy is a bad match-up for Yang. Anyone else notice this? He seems to have better footsie buttons than Yang, st.mp specifically when buffered can combo into ex.shoulder into corner carry. He out damages Yang, and run-stop is effective for baiting Yang’s vertical lk.dp. I dunno, this match seems pretty bad to me and I’ve noticed a lot of Yang vids where Guy comes out on top.

no chance…at worst this match is even…yang has every tool to deal with guy

how do you guys feel about makoto.

st.mp easy stuff on dive kicks. she wont really stay still long enough for traditional footsies.

i can do ok if i get a knockdown, but am having real trouble managing the neutral game. maybe i should turtle more?

I feel you muz keep moving and jumping around due to her very fast dash.

Cr.mk should be able to beat her St.mp.

Take note when she has Ultra meter and she’ll try to dash in and do the Karakusa grab to Ultra

Cr. Mk loses to st. MP in my experience…

I think that the match is quite even but you just need to play really really carefully thanks the to derpness of her dashes command throw. Avoid divekicks and play a solid ground game. Look for opportunities to whiff punish her pokes and if they’re whiffing axe kicks punish with sweep. Then dash in and you can pressure pretty freely. Go for meaty throws or command throws since her options are quite bad against it. Her only option pretty much is backdash and that you can punish with a divekick to a combo.

If you get the life lead just start turtling and baiting mistakes. Her ways of getting in are shaky at best so just stay on the defensive and react to what they do.

EDIT: Just checked the frame data on her st. MP and holy mother of god. 7 active frames wtf? That’s more than Yang’s ultra has…

Care to explain? From my experience against Guy, he wins the neutral game and his rush-down is more effective. They’re both similar characters in that they primarily rush-down, both have 3 frame crouch short and want their opponent in the corner. Not saying Guy is a better character, but in this fight it feels like he has the upper hand.

Makoto feels like an even fight to me. Yang has a lot of options against her and she struggles against dive-kick characters in general. That said, I’m always fearful of her burst damage. Fukiage and Karakusa are scary so I try and play extra cautiously when she has ultra.

After forward rollkicks in the corner you can neutral jump fierce to safe jump Makoto, it even lands too late to ex-throw(possibly different on a delayed quick rise?), it’s something that I like to do against her, I guess it’s sacrificing a mix-up for the safe pressure, but I like it.
If she doesn’t quick rise I’m pretty sure you can get another safe-jump by doing a crouching short and neutral jump fierce right after, I’m not sure though because I only tested that on my Cammy safejump after roundhouse rollkicks.
