Dee Jay - you can walk in on him and abuse cmk > rekka and maintain good pressure. He has to gamble reversal, and that leaves him punishable obviously
Adon - Cross-ups work well on him, even those in the neutral game. I don’t think it’s heavily in Yang’s favor though, because Adon has good pressure himself and solid footsies
Ken- - stuff that work on Ryu work on Ken. Ken does have that f+mk with makes the footsies game harder. Also, his mix-ups
Sagat - Sagats st lk, mk and hk all stuff Yang’s offense. I find it really hard to get in, and when I do, the fear of the TU is there
Gen - Never met a high-level Gen yet, can’t comment
Bison - Yang can keep his pressure on Bison. Bison has escape options, yes, but one of them (EX PC), is punishable as long as Yang has EX stocked. Cross-ups work too
The way I look at match-ups is this. Again, this is my personal opinion, and may very well be noobish lol
Pressure - whether Yang can maintain solid pressure (rekka chains, frame traps etc) without fear of reversal or a good backdash from the opponent (e.g., Chun Li can backdash easily and sweep to whiff punish)
Cross-up set ups - whether Yang has access to reliable cross-up setups on the character (e.g., off throws, combos ending with roll kicks, neutral game cross-ups)
Tools that keep Yang out - whether the character has good tools that keep Yang from abuse his cmk + dive kick advances (e.g., as mentioned above, Sagat has really good tools to do so. Bison has good mk and hk as well, but somehow delayed dive kicks mix ups work well on those, Sagat’s kicks seem to cover more ground and thus more effective against Yang’s game)
Any feedback would be awesome, cheers guys
DeeJay: Haven’t played this match enough to know a lot, but little things i do know - you can beat his fireball game from close to mid range. If he tries to slide anti air you, aim for his head with MK or HK dive kick.
Blanka: Most times you can punish a blocked ball with MK dive kick, believe someone said in another thread that one of them you can only punish if you block standing.
Adon: For me, playing against people who like to mash Rising Jaguar especially, delayed Dive kicks stuff them (beat the mash). Depends on whos using him though - you can’t take a lot of damage, Adon does A LOT of damage.
Ken: Take advantage of the fact that his fireballs arent as good as ryu’s. Get some pressure.
Sagat: hard to get in, you’re either going to need some meter or you need to mind your spacing so that you’re within range to react to TS with HK rollkick. If not, be patient, get some meter and do hk roll FADC to start a command grab mixup, mess with his head. Get some pressure and sagat is free up close - be afraid of said TU though.
Fuerte: Get away from his gimmicks, and this character imo is an easy match up for you. It is a guessing game though.
Gen: Not sure - think he out pokes Yang, but if Yang gets in with c.lk xx (lp) rekka pressure, or c.mk xx (lp) rekka, and i think Gen is free to mix-ups. though, i could be wrong.
Bison: Hate this match. That is all.
bison:don’t jump on him too obviously.his st.hk/st.mk will just destroy you.you will have to space him with rekkas and block a lot…when u get the knockdown , he’s free . why? because he can be crossed up after a grab or a mk senkyutai.keep in mind that you can os U1 on him if he reversals with ex knee or ex psycho.(not ex devil reverse)
also after a mk sekyutai , if he techs , do a jump neutral and in the peak hk dive : it’s safe…i will go to lab and find a way to destroy his ex devil abuse
It’s not too good against Makoto because you can’t traditionally OS EX karakusa at all and a lot of mid-level Makotos tend to abuse her above average backdash on wakeup. I haven’t actually tested it against EX oroshi, but it’s not something I see a whole lot on wakeup anyway. Usually I just like to meaty her from slightly outside of EX karakusa range or go for the crossup, which is fairly reliable on her fat hurtbox.
I play a very good Gen on a regular basis and its pretty even. Its one of the those matches that comes down to “whoever is put in the corner first loses the round”. Pokes are similar, Yangs far s.hp, far s.hk and cr.mk are very good although Gen’s footsie ranges are so similar it comes down to counter poking most of the time. Yang’s sweep is typically beat by Gen’s standing mk into hands same goes for Yang’s st.mk most of the time.
That aside you’re right about him being free to mix-ups as long as you can bait out his ex-gekiro and he can’t do much about max range rekka pressure.
I have real trouble with Sagat, Balrog, Honda and Guile. I find these match-up’s harder than T. Hawk and Gief lol
Honda is the most trouble out of those, can’t punish him correctly on headbutts - or should i say effectively. Heard depending on the headbutt you can punish with one rekka (the second will whiff unless ex, even then though the second has to be carefully timed or it will whiff too).
Balrog is mostly a game of basic tools, but mp palm does beat all of of his rushes if hes silly from across the screen (cus its armor breaking… thankfully). In most cases, you can FA some of his rushes and all of his headbutts. Once you knock him down, its open season to mess with his charge. IMO.
Guile? Yeah… no… i ate wayy to many flash kicks and backhands from day 1 guiles to even play the match with a good one. I see guiles nowadays with yang and im like gg bro.
Yeah Guile is just… I dunno, you can easily push him to the corner and stand at rekka range but then all the has to do is hold down back and there is nothing you can do about it >.< He can boom for free, he flashkick if you so much as twitch, he has those really good low lk and mk and you can jump. I end up getting really frustrated and lose by taking damage i shouldn’t have lol
Would help if Yang had a better overhead; there’s the command grab - but thats risky, you miss the timing or spacing and you end a flash kick before or after you try. lk teleport still doesn’t deal with flash kicks. Can’t punish his booms with anything, recovery is amazing (dont get me wrong, Guile needs it - its what keeps him so epic at zoning) That’s a serious chess match with too many queens on one side of the board.
Oh well though, everyone has to have their bad match-ups.
Good to see the Great Blue Dragon still has hope though, thought Yang was dead - thread responses show we’re still very much alive - online at least lol.
I like the chess analogy xD I think if Yang could combo from overhead like Ibuki or if he had a strike / throw invulnerable ex command grab then that match would be much easier. As it stands its just push him to the corner take big risks and chip away with Rekka. The crazy thing is its considered 6 - 4 in Yangs favour http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/5418/tierlistfinal.png
Yeah i noticed when I first started looking in the Yang forum that it was a little quiet…after the holidays i’m hoping to show the world (starting with the UK) that Yang is a beast despite the nerfs. I’ll be unveiling him at my local in a few weeks and hopefully i can slap around some of the top tiers and feel good about myself xD After that, WSO then the WORLD!
The lies! A top tier Guile would destroy Yang IMO… and lol at Gief’s rank… Kyoku/Nemo vs Dieminion needed? i think so. Then we’d see.
Still think Fei/Yang is an honest to God 5:5. But im happy with it being 5.5:4.5, im not immune to the fact the Fei pisses on Yang’s ground mixups with his DP. As long as its not exaggerated to 6:4 again in Fei’s favor. I do however no agree, with the Yang/Juri matchup. Mained Juri since super, and i know a good Yang will abuse and bait her wake-up. Zoning baits she does with the charge but no followup fireball for punishes could tie in too though. Something to think about. Definately will.
And good luck man hope you show people he still isn’t ass. Lol i hate when people say he is. Id go touring on tourneys, but i have joined the Navy and im leaving soon so i can’t - different kind of tour lol.
for the guile matchup , i try to get meter so i can get in with ex tp through that boom wall then…go nuts!!! i maybe wrong but that’s the only method i found legit…i will certainly not have enough meter for FADC mixups but i tend to use ex rekka --> grab a lot so …
Yeah from what i’ve seen that’s the general consensus. Get in and go ape shit on him until stops moving xD Is it possible to ex-kaihou on reaction to a boom and maybe get a throw or a cr.lk? I’m desperate for any way to get around his boom lol
No, and you’ll be punished for trying.EX Senkyutai is probably doable from short range if you’re offline and have godlike reactions, but it’s not especially reliable in that capacity.
That said, I don’t really see the problem with this matchup - Yang is probably only below the best characters in the game in terms of tools for dealing with zoning and Guile gets bullied by rekka and s.lp pressure just like many of the other characters do. Hell, Yang can even stun Guile sometimes, so in that sense I’d rather be fighting him than Ryu (and much rather than Sagat). Just play it patient and walk him to the corner like anyone else.
I’m with difficulty versus Sakura lp with Rekka on hit when she is crouching, the cr.mk is very good and counter poke me all day, st hp is 3 frames and counter does hit on all my divesis a really difficult match
any tips?
Hello Kaka, let me try and help you as best with limited information given. Using Yangs LP against Sakura isn’t a great way to pressure or hit confirm. Practice using his c. LK against Sakura and only use Light Punch Rekka trying to hit confirm your rekka hits. Avoid going from Crouching into Standing as often as you can, this will leave you vulnerable and open against her SRK and other 3 frame reversals. You will be safe attempting to hit confirm your rekkas with one light slash. The problem is trying not to over extend yourself and leaving Yang vulnerable against attacks that will put you in a frame disadvantage. As for divekicks don’t over do it. Jumping at an angle and performing a divekick will leave you open and easy for a read against experienced players. Try practicing neutral jump and arrange your kicks so they target the lowest hitbox of the opponent you’re fighting. The lower the better and the more opportunity you have being at frame advantages for either frame traps post dive, and mixup or pressure strings. Try and not over extend your divekicks, experienced players will be looking for this and will knock you out with normals, focus attacks, or even ultras. Utilize yangs ground game with counter pokes and safe strings that can lead into his command grab or tick throws. At this point you gotta have a strong footsie game and realize what normals out prioritize the other opponents normals. There is a lot of information on these forums discussing Frame Data, frame traps, and even checking the wiki. A lot of normals beat divekick pressure, but in all honesty it is up to you utilizing it and setting up strong counter pokes against opponents who read you wrong.
