"Your fighting is predictable..." Yang Match-up Thread

Yeah, he can do that too. OS dp or OS U1 catches everything except his EX buttslam.

Incidentally, OS U1 blows up Chun-li and beats all of Balrog’s options (sans armored punch stuff, cause you can’t safe jump those unless you have a stupid demon flip palm) except for wake up TAP. The more you know.

How on earth do you fight Juri? That woman is just a fortress, her AA normals are godlike and she can easily keep you out of dive/jump-in range with those fireballs.

I have a friend who is pretty good with Juri and have fought him with my Yang several times. I was able to use HK.roll to punish fireballs, or to FA Backdash Cancel into either a divekick, a teleport, or j.fp. I was typically able to get her into the corner pretty effectively and once there she doesn’t have the best options to get out. Pay attention to how much meter she has and you can typically feel when an EX is coming, and even if you are wrong just don’t do anything too risky. Don’t let that divekick of hers do anymore damage than it should. It can be blocked. It can be punished in the right circumstance. I actually like this matchup to be in Yangs favor.

Do you guys have any advice for dealing with Sakura’s st. RH? I can’t seem to find an answer and it’s tough for me to get around for some reason lately. It seems like I can even bait them into using it and dive kick it, but they have enough time to AA with cr. HP. I couldn’t find a good answer for whiff punishing or stuffing it at range either, but I haven’t had time to go into training mode for it yet, I just played a pretty long set with a Sakura.

I can’t say that I’m very familiar with the matchup but I’ve never had much trouble with her. But this is what I would do/ try if they abuse st.HK:

Palm that shit. Random palms can really blow some characters’ pokes up. Don’t use it too often because palm means a free jump-in.

Try to sweep her. I have no clue if the sweep reaches as far as her st.Hk but you can try.

Delayed dive kicks. Best done from a neutral jump. This can blow up many AA normals. Maybe even her Godfist.

Empty jumps. If she expects you to jump forward > divekick this can leave her wide open if she misses cr.HP.

St.lk xx rekka: Yang has a godlike walkspeed and your opponent can’t react to everything. So I would attempt to get into st.lk range and try it. Although that means you have to walk forward into her st.hk range, needless to say but be careful attempting this and don’t abuse it.

I have a friend that mains Sakura and I’m facing problems fighting against him also.

I normally try to use st.lp to poke his st.hk. Try to stay in a range that you’re able to poke the tip of the foot but it doesn’t deal much damage. Just to make her irritated and she’ll stop using it.

My friend always uses lp srk to hit my neutral jump when I’m in range and Sakura can follow up the lp srk with another srk. It’s damm irritating.

Try to do some raw lp rekka to make them block and force them to jump which we can anti-air them with either cl.mk or DP as the jumping distance should be just nice.

Get a knockdown, it’s difficult to do it. But once you knock her down, you can safe jump her EX pinwheel.

If they EVER try to do that idiotic counter into the air RH, just stand there like a grown man, stand medium kick and then dash up and U1.

She can’t backdash you if you OS it, and you can also try to read a fireball with an EX dp from up close. I have a couple of matches and I’ll see if I can post some more. Not a lot of Juri players out there though…

Sweep reaches, my cousin plays her and I punish it all the time. Take the offensive from Sakura. She hurts a lot more than you, but if you prevent her from ever getting started, then you’re good.

Also as a tip, if you corner her, do not dive kick (the fake cross up ones) her wake up. Her cr. fierce on wake up will trade with it, and then she’s in a better position to hurt you.

I just don’t like charge characters, they all seem to have it a lot easier against him.

Adon doesn’t seem to bad. I play a pretty good Adon player all the time and as long as you can react, you can stuff him. I think that fight is pretty even.

Sagat can literally play like an idiot the entire time and probably win. Definitely a bad match-up for Yang imo…
Cammy on the other hand, I like that match for Yang. Doesn’t seem like it’s very easy for her to pull her usual auto-pilot tactics.

is there another thread or something ? cause OP has literally no information except “dont divekick chun, bait her cr.hk”

Lmfao… I agree with starting a new match-up thread.

Looking for advice vs shotos, Roo in particular. I feel like I get out-everything’ed in the Ryu matchup.

Ryu is…annoying, to say the least. I think the match-up is technically in Yang’s favor (6-4 maybe?) but it still can be annoying. Generally, I think you want to play this match-up patiently. Palm your way through fireballs (use MP palm and do it on reaction to a fireball since MP palm = free jump in for your opponent), or Focus attack through them to get closer. EX Roll Kick on reaction works as well except from full-screen. Once you get in, be careful with your pressure, especially if your opponent has 2 bars. If your opponent is cr.mk/cr.hk happy, dive-kick is your best friend.

Also, on Ryu, there is a cross-up set-up off of his forward throw. This works in the corner as well. Forward throw, dash forward, wait a second, and then jump mk. The timing is strict though; you may want to hit training mode to practice your timing.

Also…anyone else find the Makoto match-up to be very annoying? It’s not a bad match-up by any means…once you get in she seems pretty free as she doesn’t have any outs to stuff unless she has meter. It’s the getting in part that can be annoying at times since she seems able to outpoke practically everything you have. Palms definitely help but those are quite risky…

Don’t let yourself get out everything’d. First figure out what kind of Ryu you are playing, is it one that is willing to just do it?(i.e. ‘random’ uppercuts) One that really likes to just stay at cr.mk range and play footsies? Depending on that, you can gauge approximately how many reversals you will have to avoid, as well as how many errant normals you may be able to punish. Get Ryu into the corner as fast as possible using rekka combos, and then take advantage of Yang’s amazing walk speed and safe pressure to bait reversals and normals, once you get a good punish you can then begin your mix-up game. Ryu is a frightened sheep ready to be slaughtered once Yang has him in the corner. I call this one 6(Ya)-4(Ru). Obviously this match can be won in other ways, however this is the mindset I am in when facing Ryu. I am posting a Kyoku match in the video thread against Ryu, you should watch it. It’s pretty much exactly what is supposed to happen.

I actually really like the Makoto match-up. I feel like I can really apply good pressure before she can which is great because once Yang does gets started on her, it seems very hard for her to reset the round to neutral, even harder still to swing it in her favor. I really like cross-up setups in this match because her main anti-air(the up punch) has so much recovery that is allows for an easy max punish, even if she avoids being hit by the cross-up. The fastest start-up on an up punch is 8 frames, which means it can be safe jumped, and it is grounded for the entire 31 frame recovery. Besides the technical side of this match, I also just really enjoy and have fun fighting Makoto as Yang. 5-5

Yeah, I like the match-up overall as well. The issue is beating her pokes; it feels hard to start your offense at times since it seems like she can just outpoke everything you have. The recovery on her pokes also seems pretty good, since dive-kicking over her buttons doesn’t seem to work that well.

Once you get in though…you can basically do what you want. :wink2:

Coincidentally, a high level Yang v. Makoto match was just uploaded as well. I posted that too.

If Sak is abuses this then try to focus dash in. but KNOW your range otherwise they will just use cr.mk ->shouken. You can also neutral jump outside of it and try to to divekick. Its really hard to whiff punish and I wouldn’t even bother trying. If you know its gonna happen, just jump at her. Long move, lots of recovery… mixed with the ability to delay dive kick makes this very hard for Sakura. Good Sakura’s will avoid cr.hp against divekick characters for this reason. It makes this very hard for Sakura to AA with. If a divekick character jumps forward on Sak its risky to AA. If Sak does cr.hp it can get blown up with delay divekick or empty jump. She could use jab which beats divekick but also loses to j.hp. Its a scenario I’d rather avoid. It forces her to use lp shouken but if she has already committed to s.hk then she cant do that. S.hk is a keep away tool, she has no offense from it, block block block… Also forgot to mention if you get hit with it don’t try to jump or push any other buttons.

matchup ratios regarding Yang vs :

DeeJay
Blanka
Adon
Ken
Sagat
Fuerte
Gen
Bison

Any input would be nice. Thanks yall

DeeJay- Yang’s favor
Blanka - I hate this match-up, only because I’m sure I’m not doing something right
Adon - Yang’s favor
Ken - Theory wise, I can’t see why Yang doesn’t have the slight edge
Sagat - Sagat’s favor
Fuerte - Have no idea
Gen - Have no idea, maybe Yang?
Bison - Even to slight Yang

The above is based on my personal opinion obviously, so …
Regarding Ryu, as mentioned above, this match-up is really Yang’s to take. In addition to the cross-up setup (which for some reason, works beautifully on Ryu), Yang has the corner ambiguous dive kicks. Off a throw, dash, walk forward abit, lowest lk dick that hits just on Ryu’s wake-up. My friend tried blocking it either way, and can’t seem to get out of it.
In mid screen, Yang’s mk + dive kick combo trumps Ryu’s footsies game
