So I’ve been playing with Dr Strange lately and I realized really quickly why he sucks/is low tier. His combos are not hard or anything, he does good damage, and he has great syngery with DHCS but…

-He has no range…at all. You have to be pretty close to do an impact palm to begin his loops.
-His movement is horrible. Blah. Get an air/wavedash man.
-He relies on assists to establish a solid zoning game. Everything is too slow to startup.
-He sucks in lvl 3 XF so he’s a pretty awful anchor. Random supers only get you so far.

He has tools and stuff, don’t get me wrong, he just is not worth the time/effort.

Nobody has a 100% grasp of Strange’s playstyle yet, but those who come close are the ones that are willing to see past his limitations.

Yeah, I’m not saying there is not anymore depth to this character, because there is, he just lacks range and movement which are very important in a game like Marvel.

Like I think there is still a valid point to say that Strider is potentially a top 5 character still. On paper Strider has all the tools to succeed in Marvel, Dr Strange really doesn’t. Like he may have a super damaging touch of death combo against Thor that requires no bar or something but he still needs to LAND the hit which is very hard for him.

The best things he has going for him are his ashanti super, impact palm doesn’t cause hit stun, and versatility with his assists. He has tools, hes just not worth the time at this moment.

If everyone said “he’s not worth the time right now” shit would never get done.

Aren’t 4 teleports and hitconfirms into TODs from anywhere on the screen enough range for you?

He may have stubby arm movements, but he still shoots out this magic stuff with them. cr.h, st.h, s and mystic sword have way more range than you might think. When to use his normals (and sword l) is the most important thing to learn in my opinion.

I’ve convinced the fgtv house that strange is not ass and is mid mid tier. I still think he’sbasically an assist character that can kill you off of any touch.

I personally don’t think he is absolutely garbage anymore (like I previously did) but I think he is still very lacking.

He’s still fun as shit to play and people are starting to realize he does a lot of damage, thanks to you guys spreading the word through forums and me actually able to finish a combo once or twice on the stream!

Yeah, he definitely does the damage but so does everyone in the entire game. lol. and everyone has tods too.

Not exactly. Name me another character who can build 3 bars with one assist and kill Thor, not counting TAC infinites. Zero is a given, Dante needs 2, Vergil will need 2 and probably spend a ridiculous amount of meter, Spencer might need 2 assists as well, etc.

He also doesn’t care about pushblock in the corner which is fantastic if you have a lockdown assist with you. Better in XF2. It looks silly, but he can triple overhead (or fuzzy since they know you don’t have a fast low attack) you with j.H xx Teleport H, j.H xx Teleport H, j.H also. That’s also something to think about and test.

Strange has TONS of stuff that no one has.BTW Mazio this can be off topic, but how should we call the Strange/Ammy shell? i mean, there are insert name here may cry teams, morridoom, dormdoom, etc shells, Strange x Ammy deserve a fitting name n_n

what kind of combos can strange get off of a level 3 FoF beam? is it just the same thing as landing am I.P.?

Pretty much, yeah. It’s hard if you catch them while they’re airborne, but it should be a pretty easy SoV confirm if you’re, say, fullscreen.

Off of side TAC’s you can do teleport M, step back once, IP FoF IP, S, right into the FoF loop in the corner. Does about 2 reps after a long combo.

Found out how to get 1m consistently with Strange no assists.

Basically, you wanna be able to know how to micro-manage the number of hits mid-combo. Apparently the key to getting a consistent 4th rep of corner Faltine loop is to hit the launcher by the 39th hit (sometimes hitstun will allow on the 40th hit). Usually what I do (this also depends on your starter, AVOID using Mystic Sword L) the first rep is 3 of the Palm xx Flame loop, while the next two use 2. This should allow you to get to the 4th rep by 40 hits, increasing your damage by about 40-60k depending on your starter.

This principle can also be used in situations where you can combo into a DHC glitch-like setup as soon as possible out of the throw. Magneto/Strange can do this if Mags gets a throw in the corner or even mid-combo (!): …Hyper Grav L, SJ (as high as possible), Tempest, DHC, Seven Rings of Raggador (opponent spins), st.H ~ Impact Palm xx Flames, Impact Palm xx Flames, etc. This greatly boosts the damage Mags gets off throws, provided he starts with 2 bars. Not the most practical thing in the world, but still worth knowing.
