This.
hahahahhaha god damn it jason. imma hit you up tonight for see sound
I want to jump in here on this point. When I first started playing in Seattle, my mains were Claw and Boxer. And Chun Li was my fun alternate character. Since there were a lot of players new to ST, I started learning some 4th and 5th characters (Dictator, DeeJay) and playing Hawk again.
I didn’t really pursue DeeJay and Hawk but now Dictator has become a solid secondary character for me (I even busted him out at Evo this year when I couldn’t win with Chun and it worked). It helped me because now I have a new tournament character to play with, and I think it’s helped the Seattle scene because you guys know how to play against Dictator.
So I agree with Ray here. I think playing alternates is a fine way to help yourself and others.
PS: But I disagree with him about VF. I don’t think I can fit more than 1 character in my head. Wolf in VF is as complicated as everything I know in ST. I don’t even want to think about something like Lei Fei.
PPS: Actually I could probably just pick Lei Fei and mash p, and win more with that than I do with Wolf T_T
Gameworks controls suck.
My console character is not on arcade mode.
Justin Guarini works there.
I hate going to GameWorks.
I think he meant teabagging.
you should either get your garage going, or we should figure something out in salem. we got 4 heads that actually took the time to post in that forum which seems dead. i got some people i play casuals with that havent posted in there who are legit. we could get all the people in salem to meet at your place or figure something else out.
im tired of missing out on all these weekly sessions and reading about them because there is no way i can make it up to p town.
we need to get something going in salem as soon as possible.
ill help you clean your fucking garage for fucks sake.
I would definitely attend this provided I had transportation. I will have my grudge mach with slash, dammit.
where you from fox?
seriously, salem needs something fucking going on. we have enough people here to get a solid rotation going every week or something like that.
im tired of playing on xbox live for 6 hours straight and gaining less knowledge than i did from playing 3/4 hours of casuals when i meet up with some guys i know that play.
p-town gots a bunch of shit going on weekly it seems.
i say its time salem got some shit going as well.
im not trying to be a “bitch” but making a weekly trip just aint looking that nice when i could have the same thing going on in the same town.
I mean chemeketa has a gaming club, but well…yeah no comment in regards to that. But school makes it hard to actually get out and game.
i am currently attending chemeketa, fuck blackouts.
thats why it would be easier if everything that took place was near and dear to us right?
every friday would be dope. saturday would be iffy and fuck sunday nights.
and i dont mean just meeting up and playing and peacing out, we have to discuss game play and let each other know what to do and when to do it.
the more tips i give you on how to beat me, the harder i have to work on improving my game.
lets level the fuck up.
No its a “gaming” club. Whos meetings take place and they play DnD. Fuck that shit.
There are my main two reasons why I don’t go to Gameworks anymore.
I have a question:
I can see where having a large scene of dedicated players has its benefits, but does the quantity really matter? if a few people want to take their game to the next level, and others in their scene dont, then leave them were they are. competitive games on a high level require a dedication that has to be inside a person from day one.
The case:
I cant speak much from a SF standpoint but isnt Scrubby Dan really good? didn’t he come and play here and do well? And, as i said before, i dont know the scope of Sf, but does he have any tight comp where he lives to keep him playing well?
From a tekken standpoint, Nor Call had there regional last week. Cali has a large tekken scene, and A LOT of good players, but first place went to Fab from New york. If im not mistaken, NY has Fab, GM, and i believe 3 other well known players for there scene that make up the current roster for top play. They had more back in the day, and some are coming back, but right now, the quantity isn’t there, yet they produce top players. Fab even said that he hasn’t been playing Tekken competitively that long either
Im not trying to start and argument, but i feel that if people want to take their play to the next level, then they have to do that, and find people who share that same goal, and stick together. People that want to play casual/ light tournaments, that’s fine too, but that’s a different group of people with different goals, and if this doesn’t mean to them what it means to me, then i will let it be that, and go on
the effort that it takes to get to the top simply isnt worth it to most people, but if it is to you/ me, then i have to make it happen, regardless of who is willing to join me
I hate how in this scene people are always trying to tell people which games to play and how to enjoy them. And even when you DO play the right game, they want to control the shit out of you and no decision you make is ever going to be right anyways.
I’ve decided I don’t give a fuck about tournaments anymore because there are too many assholes and I would rather hang out with people I actually LIKE, yeah that makes me “weak”, yeah fuck you anyways. It is so bad I literally don’t go to gatherings because I don’t want to lose my temper and do some crazy shit. People who are weak as hell need to not talk.
Mickey D, I heard you talk shit behind my back about my SFIV Bison blog. Yeah I am not the best player ever but a lot of beginners have thanked me for giving them some info to help them improve. Fuck you for being a hypocrite, and a complete asshole period.
I can point out SOOoOOOoo many things where I tried to get better in SFIV but all these players in Seattle were the OPPOSITE of helpful.
I think I STILL have not played Cole ever in casual ST or Remix, except when he’s online and either drunk or sandbagging on XBL where I just rape him 8 times in a row and quit cus he’s wasting my time. But when I DO talk to him he tells me exactly how to beat him, or gives me advice on my next matchups.
I wonder how many potential talented people in the northwest don’t come into the scene because of all the assholes we have (not counting me I have never done anything of note. In any game.)
This is true, me and you used to be hella competetitive in ST, and now I can’t really even touch you. It’s definitely NOT because you got better, it’s all my “gaming time” (which isn’t much the past year with real life) getting taken up by SFIV…
^You can’t be fucken serious though Raxel. Like it or not you are one of the most well-known players in the northwest and you never show up to shit since like 2008 to play with people. I lived in FUCKING KENT 15 minutes from you and your weakass never showed up to my ST gatherings I threw ALL THE TIME, and you have an ST cabinet and no one is ever invited to your house to play at all. Fucking Josh and Jacob came over more than you and they live like 3x farther away than you do, that is some weak ass shit.
You are part of the problem yourself.
i wasnt referencing chemeketa when i said somewhere near and dear.
you are the one who put up the idea for your garage.
were you being serious about that?
if not we should find a place in salem that could be used by the 5/6 people that actually take the game seriously in salem.
A garage in this time of the year will leave TE’s frozen in laps lol
SO basically what everyone has been urging is :
Hold more sessions (no more sandbagging at sessions)
Attend more sessions (Drive out of your way sometimes to play new people)
Hold more tournaments (cooperate with Play-n-trade, Gameclucks, Best western, Gameworks, Houses, UW, BCC)
Attend more tournaments (Even if it’s not held by homie or out of state try to roll through and show them that the phrase “North West North Best” holds true.)
Less hate amongst players (no more ban lists from sessions or trash talk) (friendly rivalries are ok)(also Pablo, Jetay and Jacob are allowed to trash talk because it’s always funny)
How was this post even helpful? Were you trying to provide some insightfulness? Or were you trying to just bitch and complain and call people out? Not even calling people out for the topic at hand but your own personal vendetta against them.
The bottom line (that keeps getting repeated over and over again) is:
Seattle is losing/has lost it’s drive to be competitive as a whole. We have a few people out there making it out to out of state tournaments. Super Joe wants me to go to SS4 in Jan. Chances are I won’t make it, but the thought still lingers on.
It’s one thing to chose to be a casual player because you don’t want to be competitive. Chosing to not be a competitive player because of some asshole players is the dumbest excuse I’ve probably heard. If anything else you would WANT to be in that scene, just to get a shot at beating the shit outta them in a tournament. Just because you’re at a tournament with Mickey, doesn’t mean you have to kick it with him, am I right?
And who in the hell is trying to tell people which games to play? More importantly who in the hell is following that world like some scriptures? Last I checked everyone is playing SFIV cause it’s that new shit, most of the new players first competitve game is SFIV. When Tekken got released people showed interest, and there are still some people playing (Riki, Ghrrk, Elias, Ejdge etc. etc.). If you’re reffering to BlazBlue, well everyone’s minds kinda changed about that game after EVO and it wasn’t someone dictating in Seattle to tell people to not play the game. Hell I heard that Seattle has some of the best players for BB.
There’s a lot going on in the scene that you AND a lot of other people really don’t know about. Maybe if ALL of you would get your heads out of your own asses, swallow some fucking pride, put petty differences aside, turn your snobby noses out of the air and just COME OUT AND FUCKING PLAY you’d actually see that shit.
You’re talking about trying to get better in SFIV, how can anyone take you seriously Julian? I swear for the past year and a half SFIV has been nothing but a seesaw for you. One week you’re trying to get some mad practice in, next week you’re bitching about Bison, the week after you’re hyped off Viper and trying to get FFF down (Which people posted tips on how to get that for you), then the next week you’re off again. Let me break it down like this. When Pat was trying to get into the scene Josh asked him one question before he continued on:
“Are you trying to get good at this game? Or are you just trying to beat up your homies?”
Pat answered he wanted to get good at this game. Josh wasn’t going to have himself and others put forth the effort to teach Pat if he was just doing it for shit’s and giggles. And with that wishy washy attitude for SFIV, do you really think people would want to invest time into trying to help you out? What so that after they spend some time playing with you you turn around and say fuck SFIV it’s all about DDND? That’d be a fucking slap to my own god damn face. I could’ve went and played with someone else to step their game up, or spit some knowledge to them.
Is it an asshole attitude? It could be, but how disrespectfull is it for someone to go forth and use their time and efforts to train someone, and then to have them just give up and throw it all away? That shit would hella piss me off.
Edit: @ Riki, in regarding to Ban lists at least the ones that I’ve seen up, there are valid points as to why said person(s) isn’t allowed to go there anymore. Which have mainly been boiled down to disrespecting the house. Take the freedom bunker, there are a few people I’m pretentious to have over because of how I’ve seen them act at other peoples houses, and we are now talking about an apartment not a house, so noise is a big issue. And you guys really don’t want me to come crazy when you’re getting loud in MY HOUSE cause the door will meet you faster than you think. Unless you’re gonna give me a roof over my head.
