I was being sarcastic actually… I understand the whole mistakes should have consequences, but losing a round because your opponent landed a cross up jump kick, is pretty ridiculous.
u shoulda dped :o.
I know you were being sarcastic, just thought I’d take advantage of your quote.
Touche.
lol I be “somewhat” Blasian…
But no seriously… Maybe its because some people dont like strike fighters… and they feel a “combo” is like hit after hit afterr hit. which sounds contradictory in the way I just said it but w/e…
Anyways…
Me and a friend of mine go through this all the time. He really argues with me that “Man I hate that game , 3rd strike has like no combos what so ever”…
Then I do yun genei jin thingie… and im like thats not a combo? Hes like no its not…
Now marvel and guilty gear has combos…
then I silently give the look and keep playing…
The 3s community is better off without someone like your friend
Yeah , tell me about it…
Tell him to search for “KYSG”
what the fuck ?? well there’s still similar combos in ggxx and 3rd strike lol , how about oro’s chicken combo compared to dust loop ??
i used to think that way , good combos makes you win .
and my views for fighting games has changes , is awesome damage makes you win . then i started to change again , IT’S FOOLING THE OPPONENT MAKES YOU THE WINNER , NOT RUSHING COMBOS LIKE AN IDIOT .
You’re a dumbass. Combos are a huge part of 3S…being able to hit confirm, link, and do good combos is essential to winning, cause if you can’t execute for shit, you’ll never beat someone good.
TheDude is right, combos are secondary, if not tertiary. They’re like incidental to the actual game, which is comprised of strategy, the use of tactics to further that strategy, and outguessing the opponent. Obviously if you can’t combo, you won’t win, but if you think this game is all about combos then you won’t win either.
i didn’t say this game is all about combos, but I’ll have my money on someone who can hit confirm/link but who doesn’t have l33t strategy over someone who is so-so with execution, but thinks he’s some genius mastermind, and that’s what’s gonna carry him to victory.
The thing some ppl fail to grasp is that strategy and out thinking an opponent can be and often is VERY relative. What YOU think your opponent will do is almost never what he actually does. What IS rock solid and always will be is tactics and execution. You can’t go wrong with those 2. If anyone is wondering what the difference between tactics and strategy is, here it is:
tactics: walkup jabs, counter hit setups, ambiguous crossups
strategy: early rush down vs characters that become dangerous with meter, turtling vs an opponent who has a hard time rushing, runaway to make an opponent antsy and overly aggressive, and then capitalize
I dunno, it depends, I’m not saying strategy can’t be rewarding, but if we look at the best players in the world, the thing that distinguishes them IMO is their execution and their tactics (they do the things that suits their characters best), and of course, their use of top-tier. (cept for a few)
I stopped reading after you used “l33t” to try to make a point.
Calm down with that. – TB
in 3s , not everyone is yun jab short strong -> etc etc .
and again , even yun players never blindly doing jab short strong -> shoulder all the time , because RED PARRY . ( mostly jap players guess that shit out )
i see yun does jab short strong applied on various strats like feint-tick throws or post-shoryu counter
You don’t make a very good point because you are comparing perfect execution with someone who thinks they are a good strategist, but still fails most of the time. I would rather have the experience to know when a player is going to attempt certain combos and tactics before they do them with only my normals to punish them than perfect execution but no idea when to use those moves. Essentially, I’m comparing a flawless footsies/normals game, with a robot with programmable pads for hands. Certainly a more accurate comparison, and I’d definitely take a flawless footsies/normals game.
In the end, you can’t really have one without the other. All great players will use superior tactics to put you in vulnerable situations, and execute maximum damage combos when the opportunity presents itself. I know a lot of bad players who can execute even the most difficult stuff, but I don’t know any good players who don’t have excellent tactics.
I love 3rd~best fighting game ever!!!
i dunno why somebody would like alpha3 more the 3rd??
3rd is the best fighting game i’ve ever played!
i hate fighting games where chars are flying around the screen or can do like 10~up hit combos… it’s just very annoying so i dun like MVS series~and guilty gear and ALPHA 3
parring is the best~ i love it i have SF2 cuz lotta chars can be very cheap
i hate the old stategy playing for SF2
guesswork is just pure fun~ dunno why people dun like it
i think playing 3rd needs a lotta stategy and can’t always be doin hadou’s
and SRK’s
Definitely agreed with for some reasons, with a tad bit of disagreement for others. SF2 is fun because basically everyone takes turns setting up their own particular strategy and then forces you to beat it, or it beats you. I’ve seen numerous vids of straight Ryu FB ownage or Sagat Low Tiger FB–>Stun—> Throw vids. The best player is the one that can shut down any kind of trap or cheese FB strategy.
Now, I like 3S better than SF2, because you’re given options to shut down each and every single one of the available strategies. Whether it be a parry, a quick roll, or some sort of “invincibilty frames” there is ALWAYS a way out. Now compared to pretty much ALL of SRK, I wouldn’t consider myself a good player at
3S, but I still like the game because it takes the mechanics of SF2, which “defined” fighting games, and then redefines them, only making them better. (debatable.)
Now in his first post, face 2k said he doesn’t like Vs. series or Guilty Gear. That’s where I would disagree. Personally, Guilty Gear is one of the GREATEST fighting games I have ever played. Why? Because it’s just sooooooo damn hectic. 3S requires turtling or a rushdown, but the rushdown itself, compared to games like Guilty Gear and MvC2, isnt much of a rush; whereas in games like Guilty Gear, everything flies at you at 1,000 miles./min. Jump, airdash, bait, attack, combo, reset, repeat. all happens before you know what’s going on (except on Xbox Lag…)
