You don't like 3s?

What are some of the reasons players (others and/or yourself) dont like 3s? Looking for players who actually know a thing or two about 3s and not the whole “balance” shit that seemed to get people talking after evo2k6. Which, IMO, is bullshit with skilled Japanese players winning with anyone who isn’t Sean. I can understand that other games may have shit that bring you to play it over 3s as well, so what are those things too?

3S owns period. Sean isnt HORRIBLE… he just isnt good. THough, people can still win with him, not many players have anti sean strats… Anyway, id say that the one thing I dont like about 3S is… the fact that I need to wait in a line to play again if I lose…

I really don’t see how people like cvs2 and marvel more than 3rd. I find 3rd to have the most methodical and diverse game play out of all the fighters out.

From what I’ve noticed, the people who hate 3S are divided into two groups: good and bad SF players.

The good people hate 3S basically because they think the mechanics of SF2 will permanently define how fighting games are meant to be played. Parrying and other stuff change or even nullify a lot of the old fundamentals, like zoning, poking, projectile usage, etc. Reaction and mind games are still important, but traditional “strategy” doesn’t matter as much since there is always at least one option to get you out of any situation (mostly due to parrying). Plus parrying adds an element of guesswork that a lot of people don’t like, or don’t understand how it affects gameplay.

The bad players hate it because the backgrounds were better in 2I, the classic characters are gone (the new ones are “freaks” or “comic book characters”), the music is modern and upbeat instead of the old school style. I guess fireball/uppercut stuff doesn’t work as well either.

I’m not really sure how a Marvel player can say 3S sucks though, since Marvel is nothing like a normal fighting game. No comment on CvS2.

When they dont understand something, or can never get good at it, they often put it down as if it sucks. Its called sour grape.

Many players also just dont like the game. I know many good sf players who just like cvs2 and alpha3 more than than 3s. Although I can’t understand how anyone who sympathizes with 2d fighters could not like it, it’s just how it is. Different people have different tastes.

i think people complain a lot about it because with parrying its harder to abuse projectiles and probably because no air guard and the command throwing(lp+lk) but personally. i think this makes the game better but thats all i hear people complain about.

i think parrying is in all honesty pretty dumb, but that doesn’t stop me from playing! for the one thing i hate there’s 1000000000 other things i love  (character design, graphics, music, presentation, polish, gameplay design, details etc etc) its honestly the best “feeling” fighter. also i prefer the more “3d” combo system.

parrying is kind of a universal solution that has absolutely no drawbacks in many cases, and it nullifies range games to an extent, so space control is much less of an “issue” in the game.

It might be a matter of getting used to the new animations; I stayed away from 3S for YEARS because I just could not handle how much different the game felt to me, due to the longer move animations compared to, say, ST, A3, and CvS2. After I finally got it down, I found it to be one of my favorite fighters, and definitely the one I play the most (because there’s absolutely no one here who will play ST, and even less people that’ll play Slash).

It’s unfortunate, too - my brother, for one, really thinks that fighting games should be all about mind games and the like, but he just can’t seem to enjoy 3S. However, when he plays me at ST and I use a more ‘solid strategy’ for lack of a better term, he gets really annoyed, because he gets caught up on how things should be, in his opinion - more like 3S. Oh well.

the whole, “you dont like it because you arent good at it” argument is applicable to pretty much every fighter. people dont like what they aren’t good at, period. so if you keep losing in one game, and you dont know why, you have no real incentive to want to learn it.

case in point, most people who try to learn marvel after like 2002, most cvs2 players who go to 3s, etc. but there are certain people who can be really good at multi games(valle, ricky, justin, choi, eddie lee…etc), but most of us will be lucky to get top in one.

3s just seems to get nearly everything right. Every other fighter that I have played just has too many glaring inadequacies . This game just seems to have all the bases covered. I really don’t see how a 2D fighter could become any better. It’s not overly technical, it has great balance, the graphical style is still pleasing to the eye (after all these years), the pace is very methodical and scientific, the list goes on and on. Just look at the 3s scene. It is still very strong and that shows just how good this game is. It just makes you wonder how long this will last. What is the longevity of 3s? Well it doesn’t seem to be slowing down a bit. Basically people will continue to play until something better comes along. There are other good 2D fighters out there, Guilty Gear for example. But it would never take the place of 3s. I truly believe that irregardless of cast the only game that would replace 3s is another Street Fighter. I’m not saying I think another one will even come out or that it would even be better if it did. But not matter what I think people are most willing to give a Street Fighter game a chance. How many people do you know that just won’t give a game like Guilty Gear a decent shot? Well anyways, 3s is a game with no glaring flaws and game play mechanics that are still fresh today. It believe the Mecca of 2D fighting games has been acheived.

 @ the word Normal.

Quoted for Truth, Emphasis, and the American way.

Seriously.

As far as balance, it’s the most balanced* Capcom game out of the games that are still played (MVC2, CVS2, ST).

*Arguably less balanced than ST.

When I first played 3s I totally hated becuase I had just recently got into CvS2. The reason being that there just wasnt ENOUGH characters, that could be one big reason people dont like it.

The other reason that I see most often is that people think parrying ruins the gameplay, usually you hear it from ST players.

stop comparing marvel and 3S, diff games altogether. Marvel is one style, 3S is another, whether or not it takes more or less skill is not worth defining. They both take skill and strategy.

Funny how 3S players dislike marvel and marvel players dislike 3S.

I can respect Marvel, it’s just not to my liking. The original marvel vs. capcom and Xvst were great. It just got a little to chaotic for me in the 3rd installment and out of 4 dozen characters, less than a dozen are actually used consistently. I will still play it over a 3d fighter. I’m not really into every character having 30 hit chain combos nor do I like watching someone do one on me.

I like both.

Marvel is friggin awesome. Of course, when I win at 3S and not at Marvel, then Im gonna play 3S mostly and practice Marvel on the side.

A lot of alpha players dislike it, because the brute force style of A3 doesn’t really work too well in 3S.

The most common argument you’ll hear from MvC scrubs (and I just mean the scrubs, before anybody jumps on me) is that it’s ‘too slow’.
I like games with parry/just defend options though. It gives everyone a chance to land their shit, and to get out of stuff.

He just means people rope in comparisons and hate on games when it isn’t even the topic of discussion, not that people don’t play both of them evenly.
