hey man you got a solid cody, but you never seem to do anything on wakeup apart from lk.RK which is completely unsafe on block unless used at the right distance. i think its better to keep the pressure on with frame traps and crossups, i beat almost everyone i play without using zonk knuckles or ruffian kicks, i would also recommend using c.lk instead of c.mp in a combo simply because it has more reach and its easier to combo into. you should use f.mp more on wakeup because it leaves you at frame advantage even on block, and dont be afraid to pick up the knife! its useful for punishing whiffed moves like fei-longs rekkas
there is some bad advice in here. use c.mp over c.lk if the distance is right and you hit dat link consistently. and beating players without resorting to 2 important tools doesn’t speak in your favor… the knife is not that good but in a few matchups. it simply doesn’t add anything new but chip damage.
didn’t watched the matches, but mixing up wakeup is very important indeed.
Hi I’m pretty new to the forums here. I’ve uploaded a few matches on my channel and I’d really appreciate any tips.
Seems like you know more than just the basics, the matchups, ect. Nicely done.
I don’t pretend to be a super good cody but one (very minor) thing I noticed was at the end of the viper match, you did EX rocks cr.hp xx CU. Since your execution looks like its very much on par, you can do ex rocks, cl.HP, cr.mp xx CU in the corner to sqeeze out a little more damage, but you may already know that lol.
In the Ryu matchup, he swept you 4 times, you can punish that with MK. Rufian every time, or u2 (but you were using u1). It would have actually won you one of the rounds. And as tempting as the chip damage may be, IMHO throwing 3 ex rocks from full screen was a waste of meter.
Side note I bet that bison win TO was pretty satisfying heh.
Oh I didn’t realize ryu’s sweep had such bad recovery, I’m probably going to start picking u2 in that matchup. And yes that TO against bison got my heart racing a little lol.
Wow, your Cody makes my Cody look terrible. Excellent matches; I don’t really have anything negative to say about them. Except, personally against any character with fireballs (except maybe Guile), I’d choose U2 over U1. That’s just me though.
Perhaps you can help me out. Here is one of my matches;

I posted more of matches on this page. Feel free to check those out too. I could use all the help I can get.
Yeah, that’s great. You can often bait that sweep by doing a LP CU on block. Nearly every Ryu sweeps afterwards xD Nice matches btw
Against Bison you could use safe jump OS cr.MK against EX Psycho Crusher, works like a charm
AND: I want moar lp stones after criminal upper!
Clinical. Only one thing I’d say. If you block the condor drive you can MK-Rk it. Unless I’m mistaken that is your max damage punish against that?
Huh, I never tried that…then again since I countered Condor Dive pretty much just with standing roundhouse, I didn’t really think of how to punish it on block. Thanks for the advice.
Dang, I ran out of good videos to post. Oh well…I’ll get some soon.
Sweep actually punishes LP Criminal Upper it’s just 1 frame. I wouldn’t get into the habit of using LP Criminal Upper to bait it just for when you play a Ryu that can actually punish it lol.
Pretty sure LP CU is safe at max range.
Reversal EX and MK Ruffian Kick will punish it. Same with U2 though you need to time it depending on his spacing so you can get the full animation.
Also, if you ever suspect T. Hawk will go for a grab, just throw out EX Criminal Upper since its throw invincible. Worst thing T. Hawk can punish a blocked EX CU with is his st. HK.
In this match up I try to play a more grounded zoning game. You were solid on the anti airs but I think you should try to zone him out more with rocks and fake rocks to bait jump ins. Also when he did ultra/super you don’t need to back up. The ultra is instant so once you see the flash hold you can hold forward and get a better punish.
only against a small set of characters.
Thanks. Yeah, should have done bad stone more, but I have a bad habit or rushing in on most characters to try and gain the upper hand early and end the match quickly. I still need to teach myself that this isn’t a good idea against certain characters…
Uuh yeah, you’re right =/ 5f startup.
forget about my advice ;D But against most online heros it works pretty well ^^
Wait, Ryu’s sweep is 5f startup? :wtf:
I knew it was fast, but dang.
Seems spammable but it’s -14 on block lol.
Antoher fun fact about Sakura: Her close st.HP is 3f startup and her crouching fierce is 4f startup xD
It’s my turn…
I went back to cody after 15 week of Akuma. It was a test to learn shoto options.
I have to work on my consistency with combo and I have to learn to punish the opponent’s mistakes
feel free to criticize my gameplay. I’ll appreciate that.

Good matches; your cody seems solid. One tip on the Gouken match-up though; I believe you can block low on anything thrown out after a demon flip. For whatever reason, the dive kick off of a demon flip is not an overhead. Other than that I think you have the matchup down pretty well.
For the Sagat matchup, you want to be in his face, and don’t let him throw you off of him. Bait Tiger uppercuts (make sure to stay out of range of the throw though of course), and just stay in his face as much as you can. Zoning is his strong point; as you probably already know, it’s when he’s a full screen away from you that the match-up becomes absolute hell. Zonk/focus/EX Ruffian kick through fireballs and try to get close. And U2 fireballs on reaction; I saw you tried to do that in the first round but that didn’t seem to work out so well for you…
