"You can do better than that!" Critique my Cody!

Kensanity! Work on your AA man…that E. Ryu was awful! I garantee you that if you set your mind into never eating/blocking a jumpin your win ration is gonna sky rocket.

You can’t bingo between E. Ryu’s cr.mk xx Hadouken, but no normal cancelled into Axe Kick is a true blockstring. You can’t Zonk between it because the hitbox of the axe kick will beat the regular zonk (EX works tho), but you can backdash and even jump up to punish (depending on normal he used and version of axe kick). And most importantly, you can Ultra between that shit.

It most definetly works. But it’s one of those advanced tools that only work against good opponents. This one will only catch people who delayed crouch tech (I feel like I wait for weeks to catch some people), and will most likely lose to someone mashing. I can garantee you have heavy frame advantage afterwards, though I can’t precise how much, but if you go for a grab or any other normal it will always beat the defending guy’s normal/grab. In fact, I feel if you do it too early it can even be a blockstring, because people are mashing throw on the replay, but it never comes out and the s.hp is blocked. Also, you should always be FADC the fierce version, for more advantage.

You gotta react like Bison’s scissor kicks. Your best bet is to just backdash and set the game back to neutral. Up close, most likely her normals will beat your (most all of them are 3 frames), so don’t be pressing cr.lp afterwards. After you catch on to your opponent, you can try to counter what he’s going to use. Sweep for instance will wiff punish his normal, just like f.mp.

Also, you could have Zonked a lot of his fireballs (he did cr.mk xx fireball a few times). This is one of those matches where a zonk charge is mandatory.

My latest 5 matches. Any input is appreciated…I think I down back way to much, maybe I should be more mobile…and I definetly need to put time into following up the f.hk with MK Ruffian, god damn.

Here’s my problems, when I play offense I get blown up. When I play defense I get blown up. I’ve been learning fighters for about a year now and at this point I have no clue what to do. I used to feel myself getting better everyday but now I go online and I get wrecked like this. It’s been like this about 2 months now no real improvement and I have no clue what to do. If you want I can upload countless videos of me getting destroyed. Any kind of advice at this point would be welcome because it sucks not knowing why you can’t get better.

In you first game, all i can say is, damn. You should be holding down back in that match up. I know u want to block rolls standing to punish harder, but blanka well-spaced slides really open up his offense. I play this matchup the most and I think you did well. PErsonally, I always try to get back throws on blanka so I can use some safe jump options. I like that option select into mk ruffian to punish back dash. were u just buffering it during your jump in mks?

In the RYu game you used teh cr lk xx CU a lot on block. I know that isn’t safe but maybe thats matchup specific? like was there nothing fast enough that ryu could do to punish? I always do that string because of its illusion that it may be safe. Many times I’ve been punished bad by like Fei long, Blanka, and sakura because of it.

Hope you get your DAzzle soon! so maybe you can put some matchups or techniques up.

That elbow is stupid and has a nice hitbox. Just try backdashing and punishing it on whiff. That guy was throwing that out like crazy because he knew you didn’t have an answer. Heck even backdash on reaction to his jump, criminal upper might have worked. maybe charging a bingo during that block string that ends in the overhead? idk. thats probably just a matchup problem u are having as opposed to a general fundamental problem (although u could block more)

u can focus attack it. anti air it. or even just blocking it will put you in a good position.

cr.lk xx LP CU is -5 on block. It is virtually safe against 95% of the cast and 99% of the players. Ryu could have punished it always in a 1-frame window with his sweep (which is 5 frames startup), but, if he messes up, I can always punish his sweep with reversal MK Ruffian (which I didn’t do once in that match video =[ ). So, it’s overall ok to do it, because almost no one can punish it…I don’t recommend doing it against Fei (cr.lp xx Rekkas can almost always reach you) and Yang (same deal, with s.lk). Also note that the cr.lk xx LP CU is not a true blockstring…people can mash ultra and some specials before the CU comes out. Sometimes the fact that it isn’t a blockstring helps, tagging the guy if he jumps or does a focus attack, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re in the lead and the guy mashes.

And yes, the OS is MK Ruffian while in the air. And I never jump in with mk, unless I’m going for the cl.hp counter hit setup afterwards, because mk does less blockstun and if the guy is mashing DP it will probably come out before your cr.lp.

lol I’ve started a thread with a list against who lp cu is safe against. I gave up after realizing it’s unsafe against like 90% of the cast.

it’s an “only-online” tactic to use, where you cain bait them to punishing you just to let them eat your u2, ex cu etc
however it doesn’t work offline and in particular not against ppl who are better and have knowledge in the game.

Really? I mean, if you look at frame data it is punishable by nearly everyone, but in actual matches, even offline, it hardly ever happens, so I always got the feeling that if it’s spaced, you can be out of range of the guy’s normal. The exception was Fei’s lp, like I mentioned, because his cr.lp has a huuuge deceptive hitbox. I might be getting into some bad habits here =(.

lets say the risk against some isn’t as high as is it against others. guile, vega, balrog, akuma etc have a rather easy way to punish you HARD while others like abel only can do a s.lk with no futher followup etc.

it’s legit to do every now and then against certain characters but I’dnt implement it into my basic gameplay.

Couple of matches I’m particularly proud of! I struggle so fucking hard against Dhalsim…god damn. I’ve been messing with cr.lp xx MK Ruffian after blocking his s.lk because I have frame advantage and got mixed results…I think it beats s.lk, but loses to his s.mp (that’s why in one of the vids there’s a fuckton of counter hits =( ). Also I need to get in the habit of ending combos with LK Ruffian, old habits die hard.

I’m still not confortable against Dhalsim…at least he’s easy to frame trap when up close.

for those who have xbox live i’m running my channel and wanted to see what you all think and what i’m doing wrong.
SOSG Delta

I fucking hate Yun.

This guy should’ve just stuck to Yun and divekicked all day he probably would’ve won.
Also, I dont know what to do after abel does step kick and dashes in. the mix up between throw, command grab and low is too confusing. I dont know what the optimum option is.

and here is Sakura bodying me. You know what gets me the most? is this damned tatsu into cr light into tatsu etc. You can see this guy do thsi a bunch of times. Also he just does like jab jab jab jab throw (like at 3:35). and i dont know when to tech or if i should tech etc. I dont know what to do to this shit. Sure i was gonna lose cuz i suck, but i lose to this every week and i dont know what i’m doing wrong strategically

Optimum option is obviously never block it, but that’s impossible heh. Your best bets versus a stepkick is having knife and mashing cr.lp or doing random EX CUs, which are throw immune. Safest option of all is to throw afterwards, most Abel’s will start with trying to throw you and work from your responses, like switch to TT if you tech, OS if you backdash, etc.

Spooky called out some of my mistakes, but I figured I’d come here for your opinions. Fire away.

Watching your first game alone, probably the most important thing I can say is to stop getting pissed off. You’re not thinking hard enough as you’re playing; On the defensive, you panic in the corner and just jump out with an instant air normal pointlessly hoping that the other guy will jump and get hit without considering the fact that you would get punished when you land. If you’re getting out-footsied, you just hold back and try to react to mix-ups without it occurring to you that the other guy could go for a tick throw, or vice-versa where you got thrown once and now you’re teching too much and getting knocked down by a sweep at midrange because you tried to crouch tech a normal outside of throw range and got frametrapped when the opponent wasn’t even point blank.

And then there’s the auto-pilot pressure you’re doing like chaining a couple of crouch jabs into f.mp without knowing if the other guy will even try to interrupt your blockstring, or mis-spacing yourself and getting thrown cause you missed a cross-up due to a sudden urge to jump while up close for no reason at all.

Just think a little more and be more conscious of whatever situation you’re in at all times if possible. It’s easier to get out of predicaments and start your own offense when you’re not just taking wild guesses due to sudden impulses. You could be playing hundreds of games with a one track mind only the way you want without adapting to and conditioning the opponent and then raging when you lose, and you won’t improve in any way because you’re not thinking about what went wrong. It’s like trying to get the answer to 2+4 over and over without ever learning how to add; it’s impossible.

Wow, really appreciate the input. I’m gonna take into account what you’re saying there as now that I apply it to the video I can see where I’m goofing up at. Thanks a lot man

here are a cpl of my ranked matches, if you guys could ciritize me that would be appreciated , still learning a lot of matchups, i seem like i have come to a wall and can’t pass a certain level.

To the guy who was having trouble with Guy’s jumping elbow, use cr. mk or hk ruffian to beat it clean, or at least trade in your favor. I prefer U1 in this matchup because hk ruffian > FADC > U1 is just too easy to land. Also, don’t try to hk ruffian his run overhead. IIRC hk ruffian gets beaten or trades.
