"Yoga noogie that poop." Dhalsim General Discussion

So, I’ve had an epiphany, and I’ve decided to main Dhalsim (atleast I would like too). Can someone tell me what the basics for Dhalsim are and what I should try to learn first. Thanks in advance.

learn the defens and anti air
also how to get out from corner when ur knocked down and u need to learn zoning
when u master them go head to combos and mix ups

has anyone come up with an official (or unofficial) numbers of sim? im mainly looking for dmg between normals ie does st.fp does more? but if someone has a whole new frame data sheet to that be nice:D

the new damage on normals is in the dhalsim improvement thread. check a couple pages back. I’m not sure if anyone has written down numbers from all the leaked hitbox info though.

Is it really that hard to go into practice mode and check yourself?

yes it is!!! i was just lazy to write it down so i thought id ask

and as i say this eventhubbs has it all up!
interesting super is one frame slower :frowning:

Man hasnt had a chance to read threw the Sim threads yet, but I’ve picked up the Yoga master to learn today. can anyone help me on the basics on how I should be playing with Sim? I obviously know he is best at mid/full screen but can he get close etc. What BNBs are a must to get down straight away? Stuff like that.

So after a long time of thinking and after todays catastrophic result for my Zangief losing to 3 blankas…i really give up on him. Frankly cause the matchup is so insanely for Blanka imo

Now to pick up a char ive been trying to master well since the release of SSf4 so i wanted to ask here instead of sounding stupid making new topic. What BnB and tricks i should learn before trying to head out there with Mr Yoga

Thanks for any helpful advice

Best regards
Quon

I’m in a similar situation as you i guess.

So far i’m trying to get down IAT, j b+HP, b+s MK, yoga flame lp >>>super etc
also practicing catching far jump ins with instant ultra 2
and so far i have only really used b hk and b mp as Anti air. I know u can use s mk, j neut mp and maybe a few others but i’ve been just sink or swim with the first two. Just getting in battles online or in practice mode and seeing what moves i can counter with those two.

Dhalsim plays so differently from the other characters imo. spacing is important with whatever character you play but it just seems like that is where his game needs to be won… I hear that you shouldn’t throw out an IAT unless u have a yoga fire on screen or unless you are sure you can punish and all that but in all honesty i dont really know how the four teleports work…

In ranked games with a lot of jump ins or when i’m already facing block strings etc, i find myself doing df mk to slide under and try to get a throw or at least get away for a teleport to the far screen. I have no idea how to be good with this guy but i’m sure IAT and that yoga flame combo are important parts of his game. as well as his ability to zone with anti air normals.

I’ve put together a text document of Dhalsim tips from various sources (mainly here, I hope people don’t mind) there isn’t too much in there yet, but there’s some really good info, especially for beginners.

i know i said this before but any sims going to ECT? hit me up!

I’m going to ECT you going too luckyD?

yes sir! ill look for ya!

For new Dhalsim players I highly suggest practicing occasionally (not infrequently) by playing people using just your normals. No throws or special moves at all. Every single one of Sim’s normals are important and on top of that it can help show you what you’re doing wrong with your specials. Beginner Sim players may find that they actually win more without using specials due to teleporting at bad times and using fireballs when too close to the opponent.

good meeting ya snafoo, even if it was only for like the last damn 5 minutes. Youve met CP from the Montreal tournies right? Hes a player I play with all the time. If you go up to Road to Evo our crews should get dinner or somthing.

On a side note I got recked so hard by ryder and arts seth I think i died a little LOL.

Yeah luckyD I know cp i played him at ECT singles got lucky he drop some combos and beat him =[. Don’t feel too bad vs ryder he had momentum from the crowd >_<

okay this might be silly, but how do you execute a instant anti air. Is it that you have to jump just a few inches of the ground then do it, or is it easier then that I have been trying for weeks and still can’t get it bleh its frustrating. Hope i can get some pointers thanks

You mean IA Shangri-La AA?

If that’s what you mean, then you have to input:

:qcf::qcf::uf::3p:

There’s a whole thread about it here

yeah somewhat thanks for the help I am still trying to get used to his hole forum thing.

i have a couple of questions…
when you iat xup, when are you supposed to b.fp instead of normal j.fp? like the headbutt instead of the arms.
also, what is the best way to ‘yoga sniper?’ its hard for me to hit crouching opponents sometimes as it just goes above their head.
one more question, do people IAT by doing f,d,df,uf 3p? or is it a dif way… cuz it seems when i do that my normal fierce doesnt come out and i have to resort to b.fp.
thanks!
