so, I am nowhere near a SF4 machine, and probably wont be until console version comes out. That’s cool. fine.
But I look on the internet, check around, and I’m finding verrry little on my Indian sensation.
what does a Dhalsim fan like me have to look forward to? what drawbacks should I be ready to face? No more throw trickz you say? don’t let Zangeif in? since when?
I would like to know about my theory fighter setup:
Throw (I guess his position change toss one) or yoga flame super for a knockdown, then immediately ultra, teleport behind, charge level 3 focus attack, etc.
Yoga fire moves really slowly, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you could get a setup like that. His ultra moves even more slowly (really, really slowly), and I tried to put the ultra out there and then teleport behind the opponent to see if I could get a Urien-style unblockable going, but I did punch teleport instead of kick and ended up right in front of the opponent. You can definitely get behind the opponent, just remains to be seen if this game allows for unblockables. Actually, this might even be possible with jab fireball.
Also Sim’s dash is pretty slow, so I don’t think dash canceling would do ya much good in an unblockable setup. Cool thing about his dash, though, is that he ducks really low while he’s doing it. Wonder if it can be used as a ghetto antiair or to get through to characters with high pokes?
Nah, you can’t do unblockables like Urien in this game. I saw someone try it out on Tuesday (forgot to post this info lol) and all that happens is that they’ll block and eat chip damage. On the other hand, if you were to teleport and do an unblockable saving attack, that’d be good!
A neat setup for the ultra is instead of a ground teleport, tiger knee the teleport and do j.fierce when you reappear. If they’re blocking low the j.fierce will hit and they’ll be pushed back into the ultra.
I tried this yesterday. First, the Ultra is really slow and has crappy range. I outran it twice – I did the ultra, teleported, the Ultra was off the screen, and I just waited but it never showed up. Dammit!
The other two times I did it, I connected with the ultra and the cr. fierce on the other side, but I don’t know if it is because of the blocking situation, or if the opponent just kind of panicked and didn’t block correctly. Looked like they tried to jump once but didn’t make it over the fireball.
It looked totally cool though.
Also, Dhalsim’s super doesn’t seem to have the good invulnerability that it had at startup in ST. And his yoga flames don’t hit if you are very close (they whiff in situations that I would have expected a hit in ST, so I have to play around with my spacing a bit more.)
I have enjoyed playing Sim, but does anyone have any good combos for him?
You can interrupt standing strong but it isn’t clear to me that the fire comes out fast enough to combo. Same thing with cr. short. If anyone has any good BnB combos, that would be great.
Not that I actually try to get in close enough to use them, since hanging back seems much more effective, but…
i was able to pull this off, but its not an unblockable.
but it kinda works just like the aegis in the corner, were if there blocking the aegis high you hit em low and they eat it vince versa
so you obviously have to do it off a knockdown, a well spaced knockdown, just a little bit outside of yoga flame reach is perfect, since that about the size of his ultra.
do the ultra, teleport behind opponent and watch how they block the ultra, if high, hit them low. if low, hit em high
yoga tower not worth it IMO, recovery is bad(not to mention that i did it on accident and it caught me completly off guard because it wasnt on the move list)
today i im heading to the arcade
to further explore dhalsim
will post thought later on tonite or tomorow morning
SF4 has landed at an Arcade in my city! It arrived yesterday on a 5 BUTTON CABINET (no roundhouse kick). The arcade operator promised that it will be added in today, so when it does, I look forward to contributing to this thread (hopefully vids!).
I didnt choose to play Sim without RK as I feel he is crippled (no slide, KKK teleport, drill, st rk, etc)
But others tried and here is what I remember seeing:
His ultra fireball is hella slow and can be outrun. I was facing a Sim with Boxer and the ultra was done at point blank range. I continued to jump back, until I was full screen away and the ultra fireball disappeared.
So one trick you could use with Sim be teleport right away to get behind your opponent OR tag them with a standing kick if you think that they will try and jump away.
I saw someone do a dodge kind of move by accident (d+PPP ?) that was able to avoid a blanka super ball. Could be of some use there? Cant comment on the recovery though.
Sorry but thats about it.
Im going to try out those BnB combos but also want to try out:
Situational Anti-Airs
o St. jab
o St. forward
o St. roundhouse
o St. fierce (depends on range, and if there is trip guard??)
o Back + strong
o Back + fierce
o Back + forward
o Short slide + throw
o Dash + throw (?)
o Jump back + short
o Jump back + fierce (new animation!)
o Jump straight up + strong
Block Strings
o Cancelling short slide xx yoga flame / fireball
o Cr fierce xx fb
Thanks for posting those combos from the wiki, I will also use those as well!
I played only a few rounds with him before giving him up. I don’t know enough about the game to tell if he’s bad, but he definitely plays very differently from his other games.
Upwards yoga flame is all but useless. It’s extremely tiny, and is out for a very short amount of time, even the RH version. You’d have to do it extremely late for it to hit.
It might by the size of the stages, but his stretchy limbs just don’t seem to be as effective.
Playing Sim in this game is going to be a whole lot more technical than other games.
im positive that dhalsim’s ultra works like the aegis, so yes dhalsim is the new urien.
doing ultra on opponents wake-up and teleporting crosses up. so now there are mind games… you can teleport behing em and cross up, or just teleport to same spot to confuse 'em
i am sad to confirm that ultra in corner into lvl 3 SA isnt unblockable, at all… focused all day on trying to land this. i guess its like you cant grab outta block stun, you can lvl 3 SA threw block stun as well
but the ultra makes an excellent tick throw set-up!!!
