"Yoga noogie that poop." Dhalsim General Discussion

Any good resources to ‘getting started’ with Dhalsim? Interested to pick him up but don’t really know the basics.

from what ive experienced so far my 2 best setups are, when the opponent is punishing all your IAT with a poke, simply IAT to U2… that way he won’t be able to jump out of it…
And the second one is while your opponent jumps forward you… basically IAT and U2 just prior he lands… easy and works every time…

U2 on FA are not that great, because half of the time, you’ll miss it just because of the dash cancel…

To me U2 is really good against : Gief (simply bait a lariat), Gouki (into a Demon flip) Dudley (mind a Machine Gun Blow) T. Hawk (mind a condor dive)… basically, U1 seems much more useful against shotos…

Even if i’m trying to use it against all characters, if find it pretty impossible to use it against Blanka… he’s too fast and unpredictable…

Are you ure you were out of range of their poke kgoule? I set a Rufus training dummy to jab and I tried to IAT U2 to grab him out of it, but I would get hit everytime. I couldn’t get IAT U2 to work. I was doing the U2 as fast as I could. Maybe somebody else can test to confirm. I’ve done it in matches before, but I think I might have ended up out of range of their hit.

The best use I’ve found for U2 is IAS on jumpins. It’s really worth it get the motion down and be able to pull it off on the fly. Im still not really there quite yet.

I like to bait people to jump over fireballs and catch them with a IAT behind them and U2, like what kgoule said. Works agaisnt Demon Flip and Guy’s command flip too.

Really, that’s not something i’ve tested in training, but only in online matches… i hope that has nothing to do with it… Every time I did land it in online match, I could see the opponent punching but not hitting me.
Gonna have to try that more.

For now on, i find it not that hard to land… maybe because I jump and teleport a lot… like jump forward + back teleport in order to bait an opponent jump… and it’s pretty hard to get back to U1 since U2 does so much damage… but some time to time I sense how much U1 was really helpful to gain some space and pressure in corner.
To me U1 is way more helpful against : Blanka, Boxer, Ryu, Ken, Sagat… but i’m still testing…

This. I’m also interested in playing Dhalsim, but, there are seemingly no beginning resources for him.

Videos, videos, and more videos. The only way to get a handle on any character is watch other people who do have a grasp of the mechanics. I played Dhalsim in ST, but his strategies in SF4 are much different, so I basically had to start from scratch. Being an average player, it took me awhile before I could actually use him at even an acceptable standard. So go on youtube, the replay channel, do the challenges, and most importantly, spend some time in training mode to get used to his normals. That’s really what his game is built around. From there, it’s just a matter of practice.

So is ultra 2 jumpable after the flash if your opponent isn’t doing anything before?

yes, yes it is

Videos only tell you so much. You have to actually play to get better.

Hmmm, does it still have functionality except giving style points then?

you can catch jumpers, or if you have conditioned someone with a block string all match like b.lk~ b.lk~ b.mk~ jump back fierce you could go for the yoga brain. I’ve been forcing myself to find applications for it. It is so awesome when you land it, yoga yoga yoga, ding! dinner’s ready!

Yes I know ;). The guys were just looking for ways to get started.

The basics of sim are easy. Learn the range of his attacks, learn IAT and his one combo, and learn his new ultra and new drills.
The key to playing sim is the matchups, moreso than any other character, and you learn that by playing. There are also several individual matchup threads as well as a lot of (albeit old) matchup videos in a SF4 sticky, which should help get you started.
Don’t be afraid, just look, learn and play.

i posted this sim info over at neoempire but i guess there are more dhalsim playeys here i wander what you think of this trick

thank you =)

I’d use that trick:) I like it! So thats j.b HP-> db Hp-> b mk?
Is it hard or easy to hitconfirm? The super I mean

i think its hard to hit comfirm straight to super but i have read people follow up with lite slide super.

im pretty sure Lucky D can explain slide super stuff a bit more clearly than i can as i remember him trying stuff out with slides ^^

If they aren’t blocking then you can just do the super after the c.FP. If they ARE blocking wouldn’t they be pushed back differently and even walk backwards before you could slide leaving them at an inappropriate distance?

cool thank you for the input i guess i just really wanted to show a level of distance it gives for use of m slide,

i wouldent realy go for slide super in a real game because i have poor excecution in human battles.

but i think i will use this not so much anymore. thank you

faster st.rh isawesome that is all.

Any sims going to MWC?
