"Yoga noogie that poop." Dhalsim General Discussion

I do b. fp always, except when I feel it’ll wiff because I’m too far away or I set up my IAT too high off the ground.

b.fp is preferable because 1) it comes out faster (6 frames as opposed to 9), which means you can do it off a very low IAT; 2) has more active frames (6 as opposed to 4) and 3) has less pushback; 4) does more damage.

If your j. fierce goes above crouching opponents then you are not spacing yourself correctly when jumping: basically you are too close to your opponent. Go into training mode, set the dummy to ‘crouch’, and use the grid on the ground to figure the exact spot you should be standing on to nail the Instant Overhead.

I do :dp::uf: :3p: for the IAT; if you can’t get your fierce to come out maybe you are doing it too close to the ground? normal fierce takes longer to come out so that’s probably why you can get b.fp but not j.fierce.

Some people do :df::r::df::uf: :3p: for their IAT though.

^thanks a bunch. helped a lot.

basic question im sure, ive been playing as sim for a while and im struggling to find application for his standing lk (the stretchy version) ive had it used against me before to stop my progress on the ground, (but then again i suck vs sim) but anytime i try using it myself it usually gets jumped and then i have no time to react to the jumpin afterward apart from blocking.

i know the range it is effective at is a very dangerous one for sim, how do other players use it in a match as im struggling to work it into my game, or should i force myself to use it at all?

lk is one of his best pokes in some matchups imo. if they jump ut you mostly have time to AA, just learn to react. I wouldn’t say that range is too dangerous (matchupdependant though). It does like zero damage, but it’s great for forcing opponents to react with risky shit, like jumping or focus absorbing, and you can often punish forward dashes if the absorb it.

also, here’s a vid with me using so much light kick the audience laughs:

yea thats pretty much how i had it used against me one time a while back, i can see how it would be handy vs chun as she has such a high jump arc still lots of time to AA. it always seems with me that the second i decide to throw it out is the exact second that they decide to jump too so i end up blocking.

may try it out on training mode perhaps

If you’re not just mashing LK you should have time to anti air or at LEAST slide under their jump in.

posted in video thread, anyone going to road to evo :D?

I have a quick question. In super turbo, Sim’s teleport hada glitch where it would teleport you in the same place you started out in if someone was attacking you when you did it. Is this true for SSFIV as well? The teleport seems much more useful in this game.

It is definitely much better than in ST. You won’t teleport in place on reversal like you would in that game. It does have limitations though.

When in the corner it’s still not a great option because you can basically only teleport in place or right behind your opponent, which is very easy to react to. Funny how the one situation where you would hope to use it, you can’t. Even funnier how Akuma, who already has the best dp in the game, can easily teleport out of the corner for free.

Oh well, Ono is an idiot, nothing groundbreaking there.

According to the frame data in the SRK wiki, Dhalsim’s PPP teleport has 48 frames of recovery, while his KKK teleport only has 30 frames of recovery.

Is this accurate? I’ve been playing Sim for a while and they both seem to have the same recovery to me. Or is it just that the instant-air versions of the teleports both have the same recovery?

Is Sim the hardest character to learn? If yes then I’m out.

See ya.

Nah, he’s probably not the hardest. But, you definitely have to learn a new way of approaching the game. Everything execution wise is no problem. It all comes down to how you approach the match mentally, keeping your cool, and match-up knowledge.

Definitely need to keep your cool. I used to get mad as shit when my AA wouldn’t come out or after i just ate a big combo then got dizzied. When im mad my sim skills go from like a 7 to like a 3 because i tend to get really agressive. Now that i keep my cool during matches my win rate went up about 5%.

Heres some tips if your new to sim. Dont throw out his fierce punch too much. It can get punished by a well timed FA or even a jump in if your too close. The pokes you should stick to when your opponent is close in lk, lp and mk. You should have enough time to AA if your opponent decides to jump in. Another thing is try not to jump recklessly and teleport recklessly. They can lead to combos and knockdowns, which can reallly hurt sim a lot.

Hey guys New here and really wanted to know if there is any good option select for Dhalsim ??? If there is any info will help thx all!!!

Besides crouch teching the only option selects that I know of are two in ones. Things like lk slide -> lp yoga flame as a method to create some distance between you and an opponent that has gotten too close. Also, you can hit back + mk then cancel the mk into FP yoga fire.

Thanks for the Info Shawn! I was playing last night and was able to use the Back + mk and just cancel out of it to get away of from who im fighting.

dhalsim has some cool option selects but i keep them a secret.

If that’s true Adnan, would you PM? I mean what do you have to fear from a Norwegian Dhalsim player:P

I’ll pay a dollar to hear Adnan’s option select info.

I’d pay two!
