It really looks like your opponent should be terrified of blocking a jab yoga fire. If they try to block it, it’s a free ambiguous crossup with TK teleport behind them. If you watch the vids on Gamechariot of that gold Sim vs Kaqn’s C. Viper, you’ll notice Kaqn avoids blocking the yoga fire at all costs.
So, is it possible to react to any response they make to you throwing a yoga fire? If so, Sim is gonna be really, obscenely good once people figure him out…
okay been playing Sim at my arcade going to post up up my thoughts
Drills are not as bad as people are making them out to be. The problem with them is that this game on the whole is allot floater meaning you should never do them mid- to high jump unless you want to float around as an easy target. Yesterday I hit a Blanka player doing electricity AA and hit him cleanly, (meaning that drills can still hit low). The only problem is the follow up to the drill he know longer has godly throw range/damage. Though I’ve had some success with his down/back and medium kick, which has good priority, but very little damage, or combo set ups (that I know of at least).
Overall I’ve been losing allot more then I care for with Sim, It seems as though he’s allot harder to play in this game then he ever use to be. I’m improving though and I do go down to my arcade every night as its about 4 minutes away. I’m going to try to contribute to this thread regularly , seeing as srk is ultra friendly/helpful lets see if us Sim players cant help each other out.
For today
-drills usefull low off the ground
-most of my damage comes from telaport mix-ups and jumping hp
haven’t found a decent Kara throw yet - but still hoping
I dunno if you would consider this “reacting after yoga fire”, but i seen after yoga fire full screen, the opponent jumps forward (over it), and because of the distance, the opponent would land half screen away from opponent.
now, if Sim did like, st.mk or st.mp when opponent was in the air at mid screen, then it would be beaten by a lot of moves, ie Gief jp.mk.
what happened was, Sim did a LK slide, into close range while opponent was in the air, then bk.HK anti air!!!
Agreed. I was a bit dissapointed. Even the roundhouse version is pathetically slow. But hes so different now that you don’t really need to rely on them as much as before.
drills really suck. sure i’ll try to them close to the ground, but why? the quick rh drill out of a slide takes forever to come out. time to find another footsie game. gotta check out properties of the yoga tower. it would be nice to dodge command throws. that movie show sim getting thrown badly - abetter ryu would have f*** him up. though i love that tele[prt intos combo xxx super. backt to the cade!
try using them when you get a knockdown. Walk up to your opponent and a bait a throw/spd and at the last moment do un throwable low drill. It stuffs allot of things. The main thing to look out for is a focus attack, when your opponent starts to focus attack your drills bait the focus then teleport away and then punish with any of your long range pokes. Sim in general is really slow, and this game is even slower. This really messes with your timing, as sim players tend to think several steps ahead, unfortunately the input really lags now and I’ve had it mess up my timing really bad. While its true this is a new Sim and you have to play him accordingly he doesn’t have anything IMHO that can replace the lose of his noogie loops, and crazy throw range.
edit okay I hope this helps someone
when you score a knock down with Sim 3 way mix-up
(1) walk up extremely close bait throw and at the last moment jump and tiger knee a drill
(I’ve seen mummy combo into downback jab- so there is likely a combo for drill into hopefully back mk fire/ knockdown
(2) walk up extremely close pretend your going in for the throw-(remember there is no throw invulnerability on wake up in this game) bait a reversal then teleport backwards punish with a long rang poke.
(3) walk up and throw your opponent into the corner this is usually not worth it in terms of risk reward, however if you have ultra
you can immediately throw out your ultra and get free chip damage + shenanigans
do the first 2 until you condition your opponent into blocking on walk up then go for 3
Will do, any godly clue how to fight sagat in this game? Sims best weapon vs sagat being the drill on reaction to tiger shots removed, tiger shots buffed, and has less recovery than yoga flame and yoga fire(alot more recovery) and it gets better, ex tiger shot almost impossible to see in the heat of battle. sim can no longer back+jab tiger knees clean like st, oh wait it gets better, sim no longer can tripguard and his throw range is less than sagat cuz sagat has kara throw. Goodluck and extra credit for anyone able to find an answer to this matchup. Thx in advance, in the mean time i’ll be practicing balrog on the side.
I wish I’d read this thread before I went to go play. I tried to play an like I do with X-Sim but he’s a different beast in this game. Drills are lame like everyone is saying, D.FP drill worked well for me as a late air to air counter. I hit a couple people with air D.FP XX Ultra/Super juggle when I landed. Got a couple cheers. :woot:
lp yoga fire is too slow. I tried to do ultra, teleport attack but I got owned when I did.

Yes i copy and paste my own question, thats how bad i want an answer. lol
I honestly don’t think drills suck. I’ve punished Ryu’s fireballs and Sagat’s low tiger shots with jump into instant short kick drill (and instant mummy on Sagat) on reaction, and as long as you just barely hit the opponent with them you’ll be safe (obviously this requires pretty exact spacing). Roundhouse drill goes just about straight down, so it can be used to do a close whiff drill into throw. Also, if done right next to the opponent on the opponent’s wakeup it can make for a pretty nebulous cross up. It doesn’t actually hit the opponent, but when you land you do back+forward or down-back+forward xx flame or whatever and the opponent has a hard time figuring out which way he should be blocking. Drills definitely aren’t as good as in ST, but I think they’re alright. Like with most of Sim, they’re just very different.
Sim can punish low tiger shots as above and with jump back instant overhead fierce, and obviously you can punish high tigers with low fierce or whatever. Back+roundhouse beat Sagat’s jump-ins a couple times, but it might be really location-dependent; if you expect a jump-in, it’s probably better to do jumping strong or jump back fierce. Just try a bunch of normals to beat things, Sim always has random normals that beat random attacks, it’s just that which normals beat which attacks changes a lot from game to game.
David i know all these tricks plus some. Sagat has a better keepaway/risk reward/damage output advantage in this matchup that is fucking glaring. Like you cant even slide under tiger knees anymore, and back jab no longer beats it, so you get fucked up close, and the fact that ex tiger shots own any projectile dhalsim has, its basically hoping the sagat player is dumb enough to do unsafe tigers. and like i said ex tiger knee he’s in, and your fucked cuz u cant rh drill whiffed attacks up close anymore (sweeps, missed links) like st. man fuck u have to tiger knee teleport backwards and run like a bitch. BAD MATCHUP!!!
