"Yoga noogie that poop." Dhalsim General Discussion

http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2008/jul/07/dhalsim-street-fighter-4-character-guide/

I tried the Aegis corner trap yesterday and it worked! I threw the guy into the corner so that I was only about 2-3 character lengths away from him, and did ultra just before he woke up. One time the guy tried to jump out of it, and he took full damage, and the other time the guy tried to block it high and I did crouching strong, he took full damage, and I did crouching strong again! If I was thinking (I didn’t expect the second crouching strong to hit), I would have swept him or done yoga fire to keep him in the trap. Or, dude, I guess I could have done super if I had had it. This is a sick corner option, guys.

Apart from that, Sim’s normals seem good, it’s just that they’re very different in this game than they’ve ever been before. Crouching fierce is a two-handed hit that doesn’t go under sonic booms very well, standing forward and standing roundhouse have essentially switched roles (so that standing roundhouse has a higher angle and standing forward is more horizontal), back+jab is really slow, etc. This is a good thing in my opinion, since I don’t feel like I’m playing a character I’ve played a million times before, but it also means that it’s gonna take a while to really get his normals down. One thing to note is that back+strong is a really good antiair for moves above Sim’s head and just in front of him.

Also, drills aren’t as bad as I thought when I played him for the first time, they just have to be used very differently. You can’t place them deep or they’ll get punished, but the actual hitbox on them is pretty strong at the tip. They also move down much faster than before, but that’s fine. Mummy punished Sagat’s low tiger shot like always though, heh.

What’s the deal with the Yoga Fire in this game? When I played, I distinctly remember doing Yoga Fire on a Vega who was wall diving pretty much right on top of my head. You couldn’t even see the Yoga Fire on screen yet, and yet… Vega got hit.

well i plan to play sim at least 2 hrs today and tomoro. yesterday i found:
i) back strong is the realiable anti-air. sliding w/ RH works fine, haven t tried the other two.
ii) drill are slow as hell. i have not bothered doing them…yet. they are very telegraphable - no rush down drill crazy sim here.
iii) the teleport actions seem mixed up. same side dp keeps u on the same side as before, but the opp dp motion with punch gets you on the other side of the opponent. opp dp w/ kicks on the same side. very wierd that they would change this, and so we need to test more. i like the speed of the teleoport, and am looking at it as the power up. air teleport is ok, but since there is no air blocking like a3 use carefully.
iv) fb’s are rhella slow. the hjab goes farther, but none of them go whole screen.
v)very disapppointed with air yoga flame ( yoga blast) long startup, doesn’t seem to say out long enough, and caryzy hit box.
vi) great to get ultra set up, but the ultra doens’t seem to go all theway across the screen, must be careful not to teleport too far away from it.
vii) cant find a reason to use standing fwd.
viii) use ex flame to get better hitbox.
ix) takes too long to build up.
x) the tower move does go over sagat fb’s still triying to see if they gover shot fb’s, would be nice if it goes over blanka’s ball. also seeems like one can control how long it lasts… still investigating.
that’s it for now…

I can’t find the video anymore, but Yoga Fire’s speed allows Dhalsim to easily combo a far fierce or to punish an opponent attempting to SA the Yoga Fire.

Pretty sure you can cancel some of his defensive (hold back) air normals into teleport or taunt in CvS2.

its really good against tall characters, and gief… specially gief, makes his lariets not so safe.

i guess i think st. fwd is coming out too slow. yeah its good against tall chars.
gotta get used to it.
it loks like the cr. off. strong and jab and short are his quickest long range pokes.

ii) i mentioned the ultra takes too long to get, but today i realized that you lose your ultra every round so… use it if you get it. it has worked well teleporting around it… has anyone pushed someone into it with a super?
:karate:

iii) frustrated with sim’s throw range.

dublo7:my ultra 3 way mix-up.

knockdown your opponent close to you preferably mid-screen.

do your ultra, teleport to the other side, this crosses up. if done correctly

if blocked land hit them hit downback fwd, if blocked do a jumpback neutral fierce.

those are 3 opportunities to mix-up you opponent ala aegis reflector.

as for throw range… it sucks i agree.

but my favorite tick throw set up is…

tiggerknee teleport(use proper teleport)

jumping jab. since your so low to the ground you land almost immediately, then throw.

geez

I <3 DHASLSIM

Sim is kinda shitty, drills are really bad, I did short drill vs this sagat player in reaction to his low tiger shot, he had time to recover, eat a sandwich then tiger uppercut me straight to hell. Sim does not do alot of damage, he stuns quickly he dies quickly, upward flame is shitty, ex flame ur only option, thus leaving you with no super and a slow ultra. thx 4 the nerf capcom

He’s not nerfed, he’s just a totally different character. I found that mummy punished low tiger shots well, but that jump back instant fierce punished them even better.

I would say dhalsim just became some really annoying son a bitch. His pokes and constant little setups are annoying. but he runs into real problems with people who are patient enough to sit around through his bullshit ballet.

I’ve only seen a few good dhalsims around. And most of them are winning simply because people just rush in and think that they can just bully dhalsim with priority. But I rarely see dhalsim winning vs somebody taking their time, especially ryu and blanka.

I think hes yet to be realized as a character, but im not putting him up their with the top 8 or 9 yet.

that’s exactly what i thought when i first played sim at SFC, but now that i have had more time to play him and explore him, he is a decent character. i believe what ultradavid is true, dhalsim is a completly new character. it was agreed upon between sanchez and i after many matches played

i havent had a hard time with patient players. tigerknee teleport is the way to scare them into jumping back or reacting with something.

they freak out since they dunno wether you teleported in front or behind them.

LET THE MIND GAMES BEGIN

Or, you can just slam on the SA as soon as you see a teleport, and if they teleport in front of you, they eat a SA, and if they teleport behind you, you can dash out of it. Seemed to work against the sim players I’ve played against (all 3 of them >.<)

You can get a KD and do Meaty ex fireball and the way it hits gives you a free; walk up and either do j.fp or low hit. It’s like a mini yoga-aigis

Yeah, that’s a good idea. Any time you have the opponent cornered on wakeup or when he thinks he should stand still, yoga fire or ex yoga fire and then either low fierce or jump back instant fierce

In these new vids Dhalsim landed an anti air yoga fireball, then threw out a lp fireball->teleported behind ryu->lp fireball hit as a cross up now->j.fp coming out of the teleport->b+mk->yoga flame->super

movie 10 showed that http://gamechariot.com/08movie_SF4.html

After further review dhalsim is upper mid to top tier. He will never be god tier like gief sagat etc, solely because his stamina sux ass, upward flame not worth the risk cuz of horrid recovery even on the short version, and his drills… anyway. He’s still as good as you make him. Like any other game so he’s able to win vs any char if played perfectly.

gief and sagat are no easy with sim.

i can almost double perfect every gief player i’ve played

and sagat is to easy to dodge

iMO

hey guys~
ive been playing Sim a lot down here in Sydney Australia.
and ive seen a lot of good Jap Sim vids.
The player i saw was called AJI, and plays at Game Inn Sakura.
only character he had trouble against was Viper, everyone else couldnt really beat him.

Anwayz, from my experience, up yoga flame is garbage. back HK is the king of anti-air.
and Sim really is all about keep away in this game.
you do NOT drill any more in this game, just not useful anymore.

ill try and cap some vids and post up sometime.

also… maybe it was just a once off, but in a match vid i saw AJI (Sim) vs Aloha (Gief), gief did jump mk crossover, down lk tick trap into SPD.
and Sim did d+PPP and avoided the SPD.

is d+PPP anti grab??
