"Yoga noogie that poop." Dhalsim General Discussion

All yoga fires have the same recovery…

Fo serious? Doesn’t feel that way :S Thanks for correcting me.

Trust me, they will still do it again and again

Yo, if you’re having trouble AAing the shotos hit up practice mode and record Ryu and Ken doing various jump-ins and practice your timing. If you get it down and then still have trouble online you may want to consider only playing 4 bar matches or better. Input delay/lag can seriously fucking up Sim’s AA game. Both Gief and Rog have jump-ins that can wreck Sim. Consider jumping medium punch and EX Yoga Blast. Sim 101 is knowing how to AA and keep people out, it’s not easy.

One other quick tip, at high level play random jumping with Sim will get you killed, but on G3 you can get away with it. Against jump happy shotos, jump back (they jump after you) teleport behind and punish with FP. Jump in, they SRK, you teleport back and punish with FP. You can get to G2 just with jumping and teleporting Sim shenanigans.

good for all dhalsim players to know. now you know against which characters not to do yoga sniper

Honestly, it’s gotten to the point where I use it pretty seldom. Even if you are in a situation that it isn’t punishable, you’re still potentially giving up ground.

I abuse the hell out of it. Only against certain players at certain times do I think twice. i.e. Vega with meter, seth/akuma with ultra/super. And as far as giving up ground is concerned, I’m never really that concerned about it. Fierce damage and a reset of spacing is perfect for Sim.

Most of the decent players around here focus and dash in off of it. This is especially bad against characters with a fast walk speed.

Giving up ground is always one of my greatest concerns. I don’t view it really as a spacing reset so much either, as you always fall in a predicable location. On block or focus your opponent has a lot of say in how the positioning will be reset.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s neat and all. But if you’re doing it often enough to call it abusing it though, your comp isn’t adjusting fast.

If there’s one thing I’ve started to abuse too much it’s the snipe. I’ve found some ok uses for it outside of abuse but I’ve been playing too many people not comfortable with the matchup that it’s too easy to do all the time. I’m sort of glad that thread popped up so i know when to really avoid using it. I still think it’s a good tool against some slow walkers

Well, there’s a difference between abusing and spamming. Sure, if you have no high/low mix-up game/setups, and just walk around spamming the thing you could easily get dp’d or focused and end up in a bad spot. But being as this is one of sweetest normals in the entire game… I think every Sim should try to incorporate it. I mean, an instant overhead that will basically carry you back full screen?! Instant! What that means to me is, as long as you’re setting it up properly, it will work as intended.

Also if they start catching on, you can delay the fierce to hit their dash, but as starcade said, it’s best not to use it too often if you’re playing against good oponents. I’m guilty of this myself though

agreed — sniping is one of Sim’s top tier tactics… if your opp catches on, just use it more sparingly =)

I use it so sparingly they don’t think I’m going to do. Pretty much like IAT shenanigans.

Tell Leland I said hi!

i love yoga snipe, not for the easy dmg but what you can do to people looking for it:

lets say ryu fb.s and you slide under right into yoga snipe range. you can:

  1. crf fp when he tries to stand block it
  2. teleport once you see the focus attemp
2.b if you tele and they focus abosrb and manage to dash back you can cr. lp to get that dmg
  3. fireball (although risky)
  4. slide super when you see the focus (although this is character speciffic as well as the range)

i love yoga snipe cause everyones looking for it

^ Setups, that’s what I’m talking about.

My crew knows the match-up well enough to be wary of and to punish the yoga sniper. This makes people nervous about blocking low when I’m close. I like to do crouching jab and crouching strong to mix things up so that they feel nervous about getting hit. c.jab and .strong are both very weak, but getting hit still makes people nervous.

If they’re letting you hit them low then I’d definitely be comboing off db.strong and db.forward.
A couple of those and you can snipe for free.

Good post luckyd. I could really use that line of though in the ryu match because slide under fb to yoga snipe is something i use all the time, and if they keep up the same responses then you can really catch them off guard, then rinse wash repeat.
