"Yoga noogie that poop." Dhalsim General Discussion

When you see brackets like that, it means the move hits in multiple parts. The number in the brackets refers to the amount of frames between the ‘parts’ of the move.

So in this case, the overhead is two parts (it hits twice). The first part is active for two frames, then there is a one frame gap, and then the second part kicks in for another two frames.

this also shows perfectly why the opponent has to crouch for b.lp, slide/xx super to work. the second part must be the hitting one

oh i was getting a bit confused because its only hits once ;x ty for clearing that up

ty this is cool dont know if i can pull it off in a real match :x

had a little go in training, crouch to lk/super vs crouching and standing

Any changes in the Dhalsim world recently? I haven’t been here in a couple of months…

I wish there was a more public place to do this, but I didn’t want to start a new thread. I just want to commend te Dhalsim sub-forum for keeping the matchups in individual threads and not “conslidating” them into a “matchups” thread. I like the Dustloop model of matchup subforums, personally. If you feel the same way, please encourage your SRK peers to use a format similar to this subforum for matchups in SSF4. Would it be out of line to suggest this in SSF4 general discussion thread?

Talk to the mods, I think either way is fine depending on the personaly of the sub forum users imo

This is a really good idea actually. Dustloop is very organized in this manner :x. A lot of people are asking the same questions (I really don’t blame you if you do, since looking through 70 pages of Dhalsim info takes awhile), and it would really be nice to have this format, even for the other characters.

I have a question, lately it happened a lot that I teleported behind someone with PPP while they were throwing hadoukens/tiger shots/forbidden plasma and I got hit by…air?
Like here- I teleported as chun started the animation so it would have had to travel for like a second to hit me, and there was no lag at all.

Also, teleports not crossing over properly, his j.HP going in the wrong direction after teleporting…all down to lag? Load of shit, that.

yeah dude, that’s happened to be me before too… fucking crazy shit, I have zero clue how it happens

On another note — that is a picture perfect screen shot. What camera/program do you use? I would love to have something that takes that high a quality of pictures. Looking to start YouTubing some videos. Thanks for any feedback on that matter.

Oh that was just print-screen and paste on the PC version, for recording vids I’d wager fraps still would be the best option…I’m sure others could give more advice (especially about streaming from xbox, about which I have no clue) in the tech section though.

This happens to me when I teleport behind them a bit too high and fierce - the arms come out over the hitbox of the head and hit the projectile.

Oh lol…I could never see the j.hk actually coming out (must’ve hit the projectile very early) so I didn’t get it at all but that makes sense, thanks for the explanation.

Yeah that stuff is annoying :/. It’s more likely to happen if you end up teleporting too high (also teleporting too high makes it unlikely to combo unless you have a fireball hitting after your fierce). You can always substitute with B.Fierce punch (headbang) or b.mk in the air to avoid the risk.

If you happen to end up between the opponent and ultra their attack (hitting you) may go through you to hit the ultra.

i’m not sure if this video is new here, its kinda old. My question is , does anyone knows how to do the focus attack teleport shown in this video?
At 1:59…

Against Balrog you mean? There’s no focus attack. He hits Balrog with b. MK (Balrog’s Superarmor on the EX Rushpunch absorbs the hit) and Sim cancels into the Teleport

I am just getting destroyed with Dhalsim, it doesn’t matter the match up. I try to back up and create space, but the opponent (I will say Ryu, because I end up playing him alot) just jumps in after me.
Should I be trying to teleport behind Ryu on the jump ins? b. HK will at best trade with Ryu’s j. HK. Even if it connects, he drops right in front of me and is still a threat, what do I do after that? It seems like the best I can get is a good guess. Tatsumaki I have no idea what to do about. I could slide under it, but that just gives control of the match to him. I could teleport but I just get hit on the way out.
Zangief is even more insane. Banishing fist I have no idea what to deal with. I know that regular ones are free grabs on block, but EX? I get SPD’d, pushed back into a corner, SPD’d again, and thats the round. Repeat once or twice, I get a loss. Ever Zangief match is like this for me.
Balrog, what can I say here. And lp. yoga fire gets rush punched and absorbed. as a matter of fact, and limbs get absorbed and rush punched. Teleporting around I just get jabbed into headbut. What can I even attempt to do?
I am ranked G3-A but I can get beaten by G3-D flowchart Kens easily. I am the worst player on XBL.

Seems to me you are getting your spacing wrong and you panic when the opponent rushes you down.

You should be AAing shotos for free. b.HK shouldn’t trade at all if you time it right, and b.MP should also hit pretty cleanly when they jump just on top of you. If they jump from 3/4 of screen away, you can also tag them with st. HK and st. MK, as well as j. MP or j. HK if you anticipate their jump ins. Remember to cancel a successful b. MP AA with a Yoga Fire; it won’t combo but you’ll force them to block and the push back will help you with your spacing. If you feel they will jump again right after you AA them with b. RH, try st. forward and you’ll hit them on the way up.

Save meter for the super. As Sim, you’ll be able to gain meter very quickly. Sim’s super is fantastic AA. Use it to punish their random shenanigans too; it comes out really fast. You can also use his Ultra as AA. You will probably get hit (it has no invincibility) but you can combo it into the super in the air and in the ground.

What I mean to say with all this is: shotos are not allowed to jump on Sim, and you should make them pay for trying. In fact, you WANT them to jump at you, because they are letting themselves open and vulnerable when they do so. Most low level players are prone to jumping a lot because they don’t understand that there are better, safer ways of initiating an offensive. Use this to your advantage.

If they do manage to knock you down: don’t panic. Don’t try to teleport if they cross you up because they will easily hit you on the recovery. Block and try to tech throw attempts, and then, on the ground, use b. MK and b. LK to push them back and recover your positioning. If they are sweep-happy, you can punish with st. fierce or even a slide (for Ryu’s sweep, as it has a lot of recovery). Use lk slide and its quick recovery to surprise them and tick into throws. Or cancel the slide into a fireball which won’t combo but will help your spacing.

If shoto players try to rush you down from the ground, poke them to impede their progress. Use st. fierce at 3/4 screen away, but don’t be predictable with it; the recovery is terrible and you can easily get punished you for abusing it. It’s particularly good for stuffing their fireballs before they come out, and you can also punish their recovery at the right distance. At mid range, st. MP and st. mk are very good. If they keep bulldogging their way in, you can use cr. jab for a quick, safe poke. Use slides to position yourself and maneuver through fireballs. If you are getting hit by random Tatsus, it’s probably because you are getting predictable with your Yoga Fire game. Again, play it safe and punish the tatsu with st. fierce from long range; cr. back fierce or cr. back MP when underneath. If they want to get psychic with their shoryukens, try to bait and then punish accordingly.

Avoid jumping back to escape. If you get predictable you will get punished for it, because Sim’s jump is incredibly floaty. Backdash instead, or teleport back if you feel it’s safe. Sim’s all about playing safe and putting yourself in good positions to make the best out of his strengths and zoning game.

And you are not the worst player in XBL! The fact that you are willing to learn makes you better than the 50K GP shoto scrubs in G1 who don’t even know how to combo and still mash DP on wakeup. Dhalsim is a low tier character and he’s very hard to play. When I started playing Sim I sometimes had losing streaks of 20+, but now I do pretty well with him. I’m not a great player or anything but I usually win about 80% of my fights online. Just be patient and try to learn from your mistakes.

Against Gief, I suggest you check the thread on the topic in this very subforum. And remember EX GH is also very unsafe on block: you can easily throw them afterwards.

Against shitty Rogs: remember you can throw their EX rush punches! As soon as they get EX, use Yoga Fire with a lot of discretion. Try to bait the EX rush punch and as soon as you see the buttery flash, throw them. They’ll stop abusing that move after you throw them a couple of times, trust me.

Remember: spacing; don’t give up your positioning; AA their shenanigans, play it safe and keep your cool!

st.fierce puished sweeps and tatsu’s from enough range? 3/4th’s screen jumps can be punished reliably, it’s not just a guessing game? My mind and attitude about Sim is changed. I have to stand my ground, I can’t just teleport when I get pushed back, I have not let myself from getting there at all. You can even punish the widely used specials with certain normals.
Noema, amazing post.

A sweep will knock you down if your fp hits it in its active frames, watch out for that. Recovery on lp.fire is awful, don’t use it from anywhere but fullscreen distance and don’t be predictable with it.
Sometimes it’s best to not do anything, making it possible to react to tatsus and EX rush punches. I know b.hk seems to lose against Ryu’s j.hk (I’ve lost matches against terrible players this way) but it’s really a timing issue.
Like Noema said, Sim is very hard to learn. You can outplay your opponent and still lose because you make a few mistakes. Don’t expect to win much with Sim when you’re this new to the game. On that note, you might want to try player matches, you can’t learn very much from G3 Ryu’s and G2 isn’t much better.
Don’t give up!
