love it how you don’t reference to online people as real. absolutely the right mind set
i’m having problems connecting instant air teleport, HP, b+MK, LP yoga flame against specific chars: i tried it in training mode, with the dummy set to auto-block.
funny: except sakura, ryu and ken, the combo connects. but those both seem to be pushed back to far by b+MK (on hit!), so the yoga flame totally whiffs, best i can get is a block on max range.
the alternative combo is db+MK instead of b+MK. less damage, but easier to input, since you can work that db+MK into the HCQ motion of yoga flame. this is the one that does connect even against sakura, ryu and ken.
but is that combo with b+MK really impossible to connect to those three or is my timing off? and if so, why do i have no problems connecting it against every other char? i tested it yesterday, and connected it against every other char.
Is it something to do with the training mode and autoblock? I have the same problem mentioned by a few people in here…I can do the IAT, HP, b.mk, flame in training and the flame will be blocked everytime.
However, in online matches when I’m able to pull it off, the flame gets them every single time.
I have the range-finding problem. My combo comes out, but b+MK pushes too far for the flame to connect. This doesn’t tend to happen against people, because they usually move into you a bit when you flip their directional inputs. You can get around it in training mode also, by setting up your IATs with a Yoga Fire (which is a good habit anyway).
If the computer manages to block it entirely instead of having it whiff because they’re just out of range, I think you’re not entering the flame quickly enough. It seems to be possible to enter jab Flame with a timing that’s fast enough to cancel, but too slow to combo. If it’s working online, it may be because you’re faster when you play for real, they’re not blocking altogether, or they’re trying to jab you out, or whatever.
curious as to how it is easier, can someone explain it?
Its easier to execute the motion for the flame from DB then it is from B (since you just move it to DF, then B).
Not that much difference, but fractions of seconds do help.
I have noticed the same thing. If you look in the Dhalsim video thread and watch the Tsunniao vs Ken match-up you’ll notice the same thing on a few of them. You can still land the combo, but I think the timing and/or placement is different.
first, i don’t do the flame shortcut with df,b+LP. muscle memory executes the whole hcb motion.
second, when i use db+MK, i can input the MK within the hcb:
f,df,d,db+MK,b+LP
thats the reason why db+MK is easier to input
Is there a good Dhalsim basic guide or FAQ somewhere? I am new to Dhalsim and have been looking to get into him more, but I’m in the dark about instant teleports (instance teleports) and I want to make sure there aren’t other important tricks to him that aren’t listed in the manual/movelist.
Thanks in advance.
Check out the Dhalsim Video thread. Great analysis from Ultra David for many of the vids posted. I learnt a lot from reading about the various set ups and instance air teleport strategies.
I have a SF4 SE arcade stick with an Seimitsu LS-40-01 stick in the inside. I don’t find the move any easier to do with it. I am having a real hard time getting the flame out fast enough.
I haven’t even tried it with the controller though I think I will do it now.
I do the flame just fine with the 360 controller’s analog stick. Just do it fast. I do mine as a 360 motion like I was trying to buffer an SPD and it comes out every time. IF you can be accurate without all the extra motion, all the better.
It is easier to do on a stick though. But I learned to to 360s back on a PS1 pad, and if you can teach yourself on that thing, everything else becomes a breeze.
I hate to say it, but that combo is easier on a stick for me. I just got a TE this weekend and doing the bread n butter combos really is smooth like butter. But the bnb into super was a bit harder, as was IAT. Just gotta get used to it and practice more.
Another issue I have with sim is he takes to long to block. This is getting really annoying people comboing me cause I block to slow.
Dhalsim blocks just as quickly as any other character in the game. He walks and jumps slowly, but I think “blocking speed” is universal.
Dude your like the most helpful est person here. I just suck at timing my blocks wrong. I want to be so good at this game but I am having a hard time.
You shouldn’t be timing your blocks. Just hold back the whole time. You want to block a lot with Dhalsim since you can’t do very many reversals. Throw if they’re dead-close and aren’t poking.
Anyone else pull up “Disco Inferno” just because of his super combos name? I sure as hell did. It’s like my Dhalsim theme song.

No worries dude, glad to help. Dhalsim is kinda hard to use, I’ll be the first to admit that. He’s got such low health that you really have to be on your game defensively. If an opponent gets in on you and starts a combofest, then it could very well be over in like 5 seconds. Defense with Dhalsim is probably the most important thing to be consistent with.
How long have you been playing? Did you start out just playing Sim? Have you tried using some of the other characters, just so you can familiarize yourself with fundamentals? A character with better health (say, Ryu) is good to use as you’re learning the game. He’s versatile, has a good all around game, and you won’t instantly die/get stunned if someone lands two combos on you.
Once you get the hang of blocking, combos, throws, tech throws, etc with Ryu, you can transpose some of these techniques over to the Sim.
I actually started with Ryu but I am not good with FADC so I decided to switch over to sim as not many people play with him online. I have been using sim now for about two weeks. I have had the game since release though but this is my first street fighter game since SF2 back on the SNES and Genesis.
I really didn’t know how competitive this game was until I started watching some videos on youtube right before this game released. Watching Diago made me want to be a good Ryu player but after I saw Iyo at the Korean finals I wanted to start using sim. There’s a certain satisfaction I get when I beat people playing sim.
I really need to practice more though as I am not that good with using/linking combos.
