"Yoga noogie that poop." Dhalsim General Discussion

the timing is really easy you shouldn’t be having problems with it unless your accidentally canceling to soon. why would you tower past slow booms anyways, if he’s dashing up behind it you can slide under to punish allot easer . if he manages to block (not likely if they are dashing towards you) then go for the tick throw.

problem i have found with yoga tower, is the fact that you cant do it as a reversal move. Which to me, ts almost useless. Cause I Wanted to wake up with it, or reversal timing throw block strings. Now, its almost like you have to do it ahead of time and bait with it. So far, iv used it after knocking someone down, i walk up to them, and before they get up, yoga tower. If they throw, do some mid move or normal attack, it will whiff and u can capitolize. Like Ill do it to giefs cause they always SPD or super, it whiffs i get free throw. Another good use for it, is to dodge peoples FA. you see someone charging that stupid thing, u can D+PPP rght before they release and have it whiff, then punish cause they are stuck for days on whiff FA.

Its a weird move, i havent quiet completely figured it out, same with drills. Drills still confuse me on when im actually suppose to use thiese things. So far i only use headbutt drill to SOMETIMES (very fuckin rare) to hit jumpers, land super. But so many things can hit drill…its kind of shitty. I just took drills out of my game for good until I can figure something useful with them.

Yoga Tower is good, jsut gotta use it sparringly

I’ve been trying to make Sim my main for the last week, so I’ll chime in with a few things I’ve noticed…that yoga tower move, although Edma said frame wise it’s instant start, I think there’s one frame invincibility after like two frame start up or something like that and since Gief’s throw is one frame start up, ta…da, you get to throw him for abusing SPD’s. I guess you could use it for mind games, like do a slide with short at the max range then have them fear a throw, have theirs whiff, and you land something. This is theory fighter at work here. I honestly don’t use that move period, but if one of you guys makes it a legit strategy, please watch me steal it and improve upon it. LOL

As for the drill, it seems to hit the whole time its out. The only drill I’ve used is the RH version as a meaty. It pushed out slightly, resulting in me getting a throw after a meaty hit or block and theirs whiffing. Outside of that, please avoid at all costs. The headbutt drill, although it looks like a slow ass move, results in free combos. It makes no sense, but I’ve hit it on non counter hits and still got d/b sp, s. fk, yoga flamexxxsuper. I may just randomly throw it out now like I used to do rugal air shields in cvs2. The arc and movements are very similar and a lot of players seem to get hit all suprised. Hmmm…maybe after throwing a jab fireball…now my mind is racing.

If I find out anything else that may be hot, I’ll be sure to post. This character has single handedly made this game fun again.

yeah fiend, on the yoga tower comment. That is EXACTLY how I use it now. I do meaty forward slide, tower…or if they wake up i tower. On predicatable walk up throws i tower and go into throw myself or hit into super.

move is weird. Very useful though if used right. Im pretty sure its invincible on start but, u cant reversal it. That is the only thing that makes it hard to use. If anyone has gotten reversal yoga tower please confirm

Cole

Can someone please confirm if yoga tower can beat the sagat tiger knee lockdown tick? Because this and rufus mauling the shit out of sim are the two most annoying things i face in this game. Oh yah and justin wongs bison is a distant 3rd. Its too early to rule whether or not drills suck, but i kinda took the cole route, and took them out of my game unless i predict the fp drill air to air xx super. Hollaback with the answers to my questions, PALezzz

I only tried tower to beat mid-range tiger knee once, and it didn’t work. I’m not sure whether it would work on max-range knee, but my guess is not.

I don’t think Rufus is that bad for Sim, you can keep him out pretty well and beat his dive kicks with back+strong and back+roundhouse and standing jab, and if he wants to cross you up with dive kicks, fine, free teleport away on wakeup or slide under when you’re standing.

Hi people, I’m new to the forum in the sense that I just registered, but then I have been leeching from here since the beginning of CVS2 hehe

Thanks very much for all the contributions so far, this thread has been GOLD to me

I have a question though: what exactly should I do against Akuma? My usual gameplan revolve around zoning/ poking/ Anti-airing at every chance I got, but I simply DO NOT have an answer for his dive kicks and dp+k kicks (or do I?). so when the anti-air aspect of my game fails, the whole gameplan fails. I have to jump away everytime when he jumps at me which is just like throwing away all that I’ve been doing to bait his jump. Does anyone have similar problems?

Jump Up or Back MP
Normal / EX Yoga Blast if you’re fast.

good to hear about people getting into Dhalsim. Combo fiend hit the nail on the head about Dhalsim singlehandedly making this game fun.

if Akuma jumps at a distance where he’d land in front of you, hit b+HK.
if jumps so he’d land on top of you, hit b+MP
any closer (e.g. crossup/almost crossup), or if he tries dp+K, i’d slide under with d+MK.

i personally haven’t used jab or crouching jab as anti-air very much, so can’t say how they work… but those work for me.

Thanks for the reply!
Actually if he’s jumping in doing just any normals, I would have no problem AAing them; but the thing is when they are doing the down + mk move, it simply hit me clean (trade at best) and I’ll eat some fat combos

but I’ll definitely try to use the d+MK for that:wgrin:

Never, ever use b+jab as antiair, it’s too slow to hit anything… still trying to get it out of my system, since it’s traditionally been so good as antiair in a pinch. Back+strong does well as the replacement though…

As for the Gief matchup, I was having success using back+RH against jumpins until jumping fierce beat it clean…

Dash back as he jumps in is ok, cause if he SPDS/Ultras you will get a free hit.

Against close lariats I use d/b+RH to sweep.

Against whiffed advancing green hands / ex hands, a quickly timed back+RH also works, but you must be fast otherwise you’ll eat spd/ultra.

I wish I knew the timing to hit the lariat from the air with the j.fierce, cause i’ve hit it clean, though it usually trades…

Oh, and Ryu can DP Sim’s limbs from fullscreen, cancel to super fireball and it juggles. Looks cool.

Are there any videos about of beastly sims?

Check this out. Apparently a Sim player just won some major Japanese tournament, sick!

^ lol, thats whats up =)

really?

I would really want to see him play!

are there videos?

I dont think theres going to be a sim bandwagon though. sure hes not a bad char but you pretty much have to be on point all the time without fucking up/letting opponent get close to you, and his defense/guts rating is almost in akuma territory =/ but as long as you can control the pace of the match he can rack up wins. You just need to work hard for every one because hes not a high damage character.

oh, there WILL be a sim bandwagon. didnt i read somewhere that all the top us players are using him? thats all it takes to start the bandwagon. its all good though, better than everyone picking sagat.

Well three or four of the top players are using Sim, anyway.

not all. Just UltraDavid/Cole/ComboFiend on the WC from what I know. since i arrived back from japan this week noone was really playing him at chinatown other than myself pretty much. so its really not THAT many people.

the reason why i dont see people bandwagoning sim cause hes not a char that has instant gratification. more likely than not most newbies will get raped with him right away because he doesnt have any spammable moves or panic moves to whore out from the get go. Hes not C. Viper status when it comes to the tricks/gimmicks though but hes not the easiest char to learn out there by any means.

Yeah, I mean, remember that in ST Sim was top tier, and still only a few top players used him because he was really hard to pick up and there were lots of other interesting and still effective characters. I think it’ll be the same way in SF4.
